Chapter 1303: Cherry Blossoms

If there were students or even teachers here, they would bow and greet him as the principal.

This old man with hair as white as snow had already retired many years ago and there had been countless principal changes at the school he worked at. However, none of them lived up to his prestige.

Usually, when principals or teachers retired, others forgot about them and never bothered them ever again.

There was a Chinese proverb that said to always respect your teacher as you did your father. This was something that the teachers themselves and was once said by a famous teacher. Over generations and generations of teaching, it had been engraved into society’s thinking, but no one really upheld this.

This old man was an exception.

He had been involved in business, politics and had been the principal for many schools. He was considered a genius and was still one of the most respected individuals in the community.

Many students visited him in the hopes of becoming a student of his, but most of them were rejected.

Water Fairy could come and go as she pleased and could even live here for as long as she wanted. The old principal didn’t mind at all because she was actually his granddaughter.

“Grandpa, of course I can’t beat you,” Water Fairy laughed.

“You have something on your mind. I can tell.”

If his granddaughter didn’t want to tell him something, then there was nothing he could do to get it out of her.

He had watched her grow up all his life and could tell what was on her mind most of the time. He felt a sense of sadness when he realized that the little girl who used to crawl around had already grown up to the age where she was worried about love. He wondered what kind of person had made his granddaughter feel that way.

“I already said it’s because of dad; I hate him.”

Water Fairy rarely ever opened up because she disliked being vulnerable, but it was a different story with her grandfather.

“Your dad called me and said that you met a gangster in a game. What was his name… Lu Li? That’s a wonderful name.”

The old principal sat down and put some more tea leaves into the tea cup. Water Fairy’s expressions changed completely.

“This is why I hate my dad!”

“That’s why I never let him come to Jiangnan,” the principal sighed as he started brewing some more tea.

“I want to end my father-daughter relationship with him!” Water Fairy cried out, wanting to punch her father.

“Heh, don’t change the subject. What kind of person is this Lu Li guy?”

The old principal was still as sharp as ever; he wouldn’t be distracted by Water Fairy’s anger.

“We… we met in a game.” Water Fairy did not deny her relationship with Lu Li, even though they hadn’t said anything to each other yet because Lu Li had not confessed.

“You’ve never met in real life?”

The old principal was familiar with virtual reality. He knew that it wasn’t just for playing games and that there were opportunities for education with that technology.

“We have. We’ve met a few times,” Water Fairy said shyly.

“What’s so great about this guy that has made our little Water Fairy so smitten?” the old principal asked worriedly.

“Grandpa, what’s so great about you that attracted grandma?”

“Because I was smart. A lot of people said that I was one of the smartest people on earth,” the old principal nodded his head and laughed.

“I don’t know either. I feel like I don’t need a reason. I guess he’s different from other people that I’ve met before.” Water Fairy thought about it for a second and couldn’t come up with a definitive answer. She could come up with reasons, but couldn’t seem to pinpoint why she felt that way about him.

“Is it because he’s the poorest kid you’ve ever seen?” he scoffed.

He hated his son-in-law with a passion. If it wasn’t because of the promise that he made to his deceased daughter and for the sake of his granddaughter, he would have organized someone to torture him to death. However, he had the same attitude as him when it came down to something as important as his granddaughter’s future happiness.

“Grandpa did you do a background check on him?! Hmph, I’m gonna ignore you as well!”

“I didn’t – your dad was the one that told me. He’s basically using me to get more information out of you. What a sly dog.”

“Ever since that woman got pregnant, it’s almost as if my dad is under a spell.”

Water Fairy used to defend her father’s actions, but now she didn’t even bother.

“If he wants to give all his inheritance to his son then that’s up to him. Lu Li grew up in the Slum District but was still able to become successful by his own means. If he can do it, then I can do it as well.”

“Aiya, you’re just as stubborn as your mother.”

The old principal was proud. He was still unsure about this Lu Li guy, but seeing his granddaughter like this, he knew it was best to not to push it any further.

“We’re actually not even together – just friends. We haven’t even held hands, I swear!”

“Haha, there’s nothing wrong with pursuing a relationship. I’m not some conservative grumpy old man. Next time, if you’re free, you should bring him here to meet me. As for your father, I hope karma gets to him one day, even though I may not be alive by the time that happens…” the old principal sighed.

“Grandpa, you’re not even old yet. Our relatives all lived very long lives; some even up to 120 years old,” Water Fairy said.

“I’ve lived a long and rewarding life. I’m not afraid to face death at all, as long as my little girl is happy. However, I hope that you don’t make the same mistakes as your mother did. You should be very careful when choosing your partner.” Even though he was old and still very intelligent, he still nagged as much as any other old man.

Water Fairy wasn’t annoyed by the nagging.

There was nothing better than tea and cherry blossoms on a clear and sunny day.

Remnant Dreams continued searching through the corpse and found two Gold grade equips.

There was a very good special effect on one of the Armor pieces. It was too bad that it had generated on a Gold grade equip.

Gold grade equipment had terrible base stats. The other two special effects were useless as well, which made this piece of equipment unworthy of replacing anyone’s current gear.

They cursed the game developers that such an overpowered special effect would be wasted like this.

Lu Li wasn’t disappointed at all because he knew that this was something that they would get used to in the future.

Earlier on in the game, the stats and special effects of the equipment didn’t really mattered because the difference was minimal.

As they progressed further, in order to be the best of the best, every piece of equipment had to be godly in order to stay above the rest of the player base. They needed to have the best stats and the best special effects that. If a Legendary piece of equipment had a worthless special effect like ‘reduces fall damage by 50%’, then it would still be useless.

The Dark Gold equipment was next. The first was a Lv60 Warlock piece which was given to Kitty Likes Meat

It wasn’t powerful enough for her to place a stone on it to reduce the level requirement.

Level requirement stones were very expensive and very rarely did players use them for Dark Gold items.
