Chapter 237 - “How did you and your girlfriend make your relationship official?” (1)

Edited by: Lulu

When the oil was heated up, she added in the taros and fried them until they were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Once the taros were done frying, the next step was to prepare the sugar.

She added sugar and a little bit of water into the pan and waited for it to simmer. Once the sugar water was bubbling, she tossed the taros back into the pan and stir-fried them until they were all nice and golden brown.

A nice delicious aroma filled the kitchen. Wen Rugui was not hungry before, but his appetite had been stimulated. He couldn't help but gulp a few times.

Tong Xuelu picked up a piece of the sweet and crispy taros and said to Wen Rugui, “Comrade Wen, try a piece of this and let me know if it’s sweet enough.”

Looking at the chopsticks that she was holding in her hand, Wen Rugui’s heart skipped a beat and then started pounding heavily.

The two were standing closer to each other this time, and Tong Xuelu could hear his heartbeat. Her smile deepened.

“Comrade Wen?”

She called out to him again while controlling her smile.

Wen Rugui had recollected himself, but the base of his red ears were, as usual, a dead giveaway to his shyness. “I got it.”

Tong Xuelu wasn’t surprised by his response. If he would just eat it off of her chopsticks, he would not be that Wen Rugui that she knew, who’d blush at everything.

Thus, she handed him the chopsticks without hesitation. “Here you go.”

Wen Rugui took the chopsticks from her, but his fingers accidentally rubbed hers. The contact made his hand shake, making him almost drop the chopsticks onto the floor.

Seeing that his ears were so red that they seemed as if they were bleeding, Tong Xuelu finally decided to stop teasing him.

Wen Rugui could finally breathe again after Tong Xuelu had turned back around.

As expected, the taros were crispy on the outside and soft and mushy on the inside. The outside was sweet, and with just one bite, even one’s heart was filled with sweetness.

Tong Xuelu turned around with the vegetables in her hands and asked him, “How did it taste, Comrade Wen?”

Wen Rugui said seriously, “It is delicious.”

Tong Xuelu’s lips curved, along with her eyes. “I’m glad you like it.”

THROB! THROB! THROB!

The answer from Wen Rugui was still his loud heartbeat.

Tong Xuelu had Tong Jiaming and Tong Jiaxin come to pick up the dishes, while she planned to take a plate of sweet and crispy taros over to the Wei’s.

Recalling how Wei Ran had blushed and smiled at Tong Xuelu, his hand that was holding onto the chopsticks tightened. “Are you bringing those over to your neighbors, Comrade Tong?”

Tong Xuelu nodded.

Wen Rugui’s eyelashes fluttered. “It’s getting dark outside. Why don’t you have your two brothers bring them over?”

Her two brothers??

Were they not afraid of the dark also?

Tong Xuelu didn’t really care who brought them over. Since Wen Rugui had suggested it, she had Tong Jiaming and Tong Jiaxin make the run.

Tong Jiaming didn’t think much of it, but Tong Jiaxin started to grumble in his mind.

The back and forth would eat into his precious eating time!

Thus, he dashed over to the Wei’s and quickly returned for his dinner like the wind.

The Hakka tofu was fresh and smooth, and the pork with the added mushrooms smelled amazing and had a good texture. The dish couldn’t taste any better.

Tong Jiaxin poured the tofu sauce over his rice and wolfed it down.

Tong Mianmian, much like Wen Rugui, enjoyed the sweet and crispy taros the best.

Tong Xuelu poked a piece of the taros with her chopstick.

The little bun held the chopstick, and her cheeks were puffy like that of a squirrel. She couldn’t be cuter.

After dinner, the two brothers went to do dishes.

Tong Xuelu packed up the remaining sweet and crispy taros along with the dried chrysanthemum and had Wen Rugui bring them back with him.

Tong Xuelu then walked Wen Rugui to the door and said, “Do you know what day is next Saturday, Comrade Wen?”

Thinking about it for a while, Wen Rugui shook his head. “No.”

Next Sunday was the mid-autumn festival, but he truly had no idea what the day before mid-autumn festival was.

Tong Xuelu smiled softly. “It is my birthday. I would like to invite Comrade Wen, Comrade Pu, and Jiang Danhong to have dinner at my place. What do you say?”
