Chapter 242 - "Do you... like me?" (3)
As soon as Tong Xuelu had walked inside of the kitchen, Wen Rugui walked inside after her, carrying a large bag in his hand.
Hearing footsteps behind her, Tong Xuelu looked up and asked, “How come you aren’t making dumplings with the rest of them, Comrade Wen?”
“I’m here to help you,” said Wen Rugui as he walked inside and handed the bag over to her. “Here’s the gift for you. Happy birthday!”
Tong Xuelu accepted it and opened it up. She saw a military green jacket.
Military jacket was difficult to come back, more so than Dacron.
He might have connections but, just for his thoughts alone, she couldn’t just pretend that she wasn’t aware of anything.
The light from above casted on her, making her face appear fairer and more delicate.
Tong Xuelu cocked her head and said, “Thank you, Comrade Wen. But I do have a question for you.”
Wen Rugui looked at her with his black eyes. “Oh yeah? What is it?”
Tong Xuelu, “Why is Comrade Wen so nice to me?”
It was the fall and it was chilly. The leaves on the trees outside were rattling in the wind. The smell of osmanthus came in through the window and giving the night like this a suggestive feel.
It was pin drop quiet inside the kitchen and her voice could be heard clearly.
“Do you….. like me?”
Tong Xuelu looked straight at him with her almond eyes after she spoke.
The atmosphere inside the kitchen began to heat up. It was already fall, but one still felt uncomfortably hot for some inexplicable reason.
Wen Rugui blushed. Even his ears and neck turned beet red.
Looking at Tong Xuelu, his heart throbbed and he felt that his heart could throb out of his throat.
Hadn’t Zhou Yan said that girls were shier?
So why was it that he didn’t see any shyness on her at all?
He had come into the kitchen purposefully to make their relationship official.

Nevertheless, she had already point blank asked him if he was fond of her before he even said anything. That had caught him off guard!
Even though the development of matters had surprised him and threw a wrench into his original plan but, as he had already figured out his feelings for her, for sure he would not deny it or play hard to get.
Wen Rugui took a deep breath, looked at Tong Xuelu with his black eyes, and said, enunciating every word, “Yes, I like you, Comrade Tong.”
Yes, I like you, Comrade Tong.
His voice was deep and clear and it resounded in a night like this.
Like a feather that brushed across one’s heart, it tickled.
Tong Xuelu looked at him.
Standing under the bright like, the light gave his features an even more 3-dimensional look. His eyelashes were long and thick and his nose tall and straight. He look at Tong Xuelu squarely with his black eyes.
Tong Xuelu had heard of a lot of confessions before she had transmigrated, some much more direct and passionate than this one.
Nevertheless, Wen Rugui’s much simpler and unpretentious words was the most romantic one that she had ever heard and also the one that touched her the most.
When she first started flirting with him, it was partly out of habit but also partly that he was an extremely outstanding man.
When he became nicer and nicer to her, she did not miss any of them.
It would be a lie if she was to say that she had no feelings for him at all.
“Comrade Wen……”
“Comrade Tong……”
The two started talking at the same time.
Being stared at by Tong Xuelu, Wen Rugui felt his whole body tensed up and his heart could barely handle the load.
He was just about to ask her if she would be his girlfriend when she started to talk.
Wen Rugui took a deep breath again and said, politely, “Go ahead, Comrade Tong.”
Tong Xuelu cocked her head and said with a hint of a smile on her. “Comrade Wen, perhaps we should get to know each other better with proper intention?”
Proper intention? Meaning having marriage as the final goal?
