Chapter 279 - "What are Aunty and Uncle supposed to do if you don’t hang in there,?” (1)
Zhou Yan wrote a letter to his girlfriend, and she wanted to break up with him.
He, too, had written to Comrade Tong and even asked her to “be sure to reply”!
The more he thought about it, the more he regretted his decision. How could he demand that she must write him back?
He felt like he was compelling her to do something she didn’t want!
What if she was upset? What if she no longer wanted to have anything to do with him from this point forward?
The more he thought about it, the more he felt that he was a horrible person.
Zhou Yan had panda eyes when he opened up his door the next morning.
As soon as he had walked outside of his room, he saw Wen Rugui, who also had panda eyes.
Startled, he asked, “What happened to you, Rugui? I was sleepless because of what happened between my girlfriend and me. You have no girlfriend. Were you up all night too?”
Wen Rugui turned and walked away without saying a word.
Zhou Yan followed behind him quickly. “Rugui, I get it now. Some people act like they have your best interest in mind when all they want to do is to sabotage you! I’ve learned my lesson the hard way. You must learn from my mistake!”
Wen Rugui said nothing. He, too, crossed out Huang Qimin’s name in his mind.
The two arrived at the cafeteria.
“Zhou Yan, Rugui, you won’t need to place your order. I had already bought food for the three of us.”
Huang Qimin had been waiting for them in the cafeteria and even had breakfast ready for them.
Zhou Yan’s eyes turned beet red when he saw Huang Qimin. “Dog Egg Huang, you dare to stand in front of me right now?!”
Wen Rugui, “……”
Huang Qimin, “……”

All the others around them burst out laughing when they heard that.
Dog Egg Haung was Huang Qimin’s nickname from his childhood. The people, who knew him well, knew about it, but it was such an awful nickname that everybody made a point of not bringing it up.
Huang Qimin’s face turned beet red. “Calm down already, Zhou Yan. Let’s talk it out no matter what it is, okay?”
Zhou Yan rolled his eyes. “What is there to talk about? I’ve lost my girlfriend because of you! Are there not enough single guys in the base? Now, I have joined them too. How do you sleep at night?”
Huang Qimin calmly placated him. “Do you still want to listen to me then? What about the breakfast that I had bought?”
Zhou Yan harrumphed. “I want the breakfast, but don’t ever say another word about your take on romance to me. I will never listen to another word of yours from now on!”
Huang Qimin almost busted out laughing from annoyance. “Why don’t you sit down and tell me what happened with your letter!”
Fine. So he may not have elaborated thoroughly on the big-face complement last time. But he was very clear and thorough this time around.
To prove that his method was correct, he even made a point of calling his fiancée yesterday. He had her ask the other girls she worked with whether they would be happy if they received letters from their boyfriends in the same city.
His girlfriend gave him a definitive answer. Everybody said they would be very pleasantly surprised. As such, his approach was sound.
He felt that the problem lay with Zhou Yan. All in all, he refused to take the blame for this one!
Zhou Yan, too, was quite baffled, but he had nobody else to talk to. He thought about it some and finally repeated the content of his letter.
Upon hearing that, Huang Qimin was even more perplexed. “That doesn’t make any sense. There was nothing wrong with your letter. Why would your girlfriend be so upset that she wants to break up with you?”
Zhou Yan bit into a bun violently. “How would I know?”
Wen Rugui felt a rock sinking inside his heart, but it wouldn’t sink all the way down.
He also felt that there was nothing wrong with Zhou Yan’s letter. If his girlfriend wanted to break up with him, what if Comrade Tong got upset with him too?
He could no longer eat the bun with the thoughts and doubts spinning inside his head.
All of a sudden the atmosphere became heavy around the three of them.
It was so palpable that others would purposefully take a longer route just to avoid walking near them.
