Chapter 282 - "What are Aunty and Uncle supposed to do if you don’t hang in there,?” (4)

Edited by: Lulu

Gu Yilan heard her words, and she felt as though her heart was being stabbed. Tears came rolling down her cheeks again. “It was all my fault. I didn’t keep a good eye on Xiao Jiu……”

Her husband and her father-in-law had just been compensated for the grievances that they had experienced, and she was delighted when she heard the news.

As such, she left her son home with Sister Fang, while she went to get train tickets at the station. By the time she returned home with the tickets, her son was long gone.

Sister Fang said Xiao Jiu ran out of the house, while she was cooking. By the time she had noticed and ran out after him, he had already disappeared. Only a letter was left by the door.

The letter said not to alert the police. Otherwise, they would kill Xiao Jiu immediately.

She was so frightened at the time that her knees buckled.

Her mother passed out immediately after she learned the news when she returned home from work.

The family plunged into chaos.

Her mother was still at the hospital right now. Her two brothers had gone out searching for some clues, but so far they had gotten nothing.

Who kidnapped Xiao Jiu? And what were their intentions?

They had no idea, but they were too worried to notify the police!

It was as though a sword was hung over their heads, waiting to drop at any moment. It was an awful feeling.

Lai Muqing looked at Gu Yilan’s tear-stained face and handed a handkerchief over to her. “You should stop crying, Yilan. Aunty will be very heartbroken if she sees you like this.

“Then there is Brother-in-law. What are you going to tell him?”

Tears came rolling down Gu Yilan all over again when she heard that. “I don’t know. I’m worried about breaking the news to him. This was all my fault. Wuwuwuw…..”

Lai Muqing paused and said, “Are you still going to pick up Brother-in-law and your Father-in-law in person and accompany them back to the capital city?”

Gu Yilan shook her head. “How can I do that now? Besides, given my health, I probably won’t even make it out of the capital city……”

Lai Muqing thought about it some and said, “How about…… I go pick them up in your stead?”

Gu Yilan’s eyes lit up, and she held Lai Muqing’s hand, grateful. “Thank you, Cousin. I will feel so much better if you can go.”

Lai Muqing patted Gu Yilan on her hand. “Uncle and Aunty had always raised me as if I were their own daughter. I have always thought of you as my own sister. Don’t mention it.”

Gu Yilan looked at her appreciatively. She was very pleased.

Tong Xuelu brought Xiao Jiu over to the Wei’s the next day.

Xiao Jiu was a quiet one, but he was docile and well-behaved. He got along well with Tong Mianmian and Wei Zhuzhu.

Since she was causing the Wei family additional trouble, Tong Xuelu got up earlier that morning and made green and red bean cakes for the children.

She went to work only after she had handed the children over to Shen Wanrong.

Lo and behold, she heard shocking news when she got to work –

That Meng Qingqing and Liu Dongchang were dating!!!

Tong Xuelu could see Tan Xiaoyan pointing at Meng Qingqing and shouting at her from afar.

“I knew you were up to no good the moment I laid eyes on you! I was right, wasn’t I? You shameless tramp! All you know is how to seduce men!

“Well, don’t you have anything to say for yourself? If you could do the deed, you could at least own up to it! Pei! Shameless fox demon!”

Tan Xiaoyan’s finger was short of poking Meng Qingqing in her face.

What was even more odd was that Meng Qingqing’s head was lowered, and she looked like she was about to cry. She, however, did not rebut Tan Xiaoyan’s jeers.

Tong Xuelu walked over and casually glanced over at the two of them. “What’s going on here?”

Tan Xiaoyan harrumphed through her nose. “This has nothing to do with you. It’s best that you stay out of it!”

Meng Qingqing looked up at her. Her eyes were filled with tears, and she shook her head at Tong Xuelu.

Tong Xuelu was no saint.

She believed that one must help themselves first before somebody else could help them. She felt that Meng Qingqing was a nice girl, but she never said anything when Tong Xuelu had inquired about it in the past.

As such, Tong Xuelu wasn’t going to ask again this time.

She did, however, want to see what was going on between the two of them.

As such, she did not walk away. She stood next to them and waited patiently for the drama to unfold in front of her.
