Chapter 302 - How he had grown. (1)
Quickly, words about Wen Rugui having a girlfriend had spread among a small group of people.
All of the upper management personnel felt regretful upon finding out about it.
Wen Rugui was handsome, reliable, and came from a family with status. They have had their eyes on him to be their son-in-law or grandson-in-law for a very long time.
Even those who didn’t have daughters or granddaughters wanted to introduce him to their relatives.
Nevertheless, nobody had succeeded all these years, and now the fruit they had all coveted was picked by someone else.
Everybody was very curious as to what kind of girl could have scored Wen Rugui.
The Jiao family, too, learned that Wen Rugui had a girlfriend shortly thereafter.
The atmosphere was heavy over dinner.
Jiao Boshan: So lucky that they did not go testing waters back then. It would certainly make things very awkward right now.
Zhong Shulan: Lucky that Wen Rugui had misunderstood. They would not know how to face him going forward otherwise.
Jiao Yunshi: Lucky that I didn’t say anything. Otherwise, I would have become the person who wanted to meddle in someone else’s relationship.
Jiao Boshan and Zhong Shulan exchanged a look with each other and turned to look at their daughter, worried.
After her illness, Jiao Yunshi had lost some more weight, but fortunately, she looked to be in good spirits.
Noticing that her parents were worried about her, Jiao Yunshi put her chopsticks down and said, “Mom, dad, there’s something that I want to talk to you about.”
Zhong Shulan became even more worried after she heard that. “Un, okay. Go ahead.”
Jiao Yunshi, “Mom, I don’t want to go on an arranged date……”
Zhong Shulan misunderstood that Jiao Yunshi refused to move on from Wen Rugui. She felt as though her heart had been stuck by a needle. “Yunshi, sometimes we need to learn to move on……”
Jiao Yunshi couldn't help but chuckle. “What are you talking about, Mom? I don’t want to go on an arranged date because I have something else in mind. I want to go to school!”

She was just 10 years old when she was sent to the ranch, and her education ended there. Even though her mother and her grandfather had been trying to teach her how to read secretly, it was on and off thing and not very systematic.
She would not be able to get a job right now with her skills, and she did not want to spend her life the way it was.
She wanted to become an individual who would be productive for her own country just like her father. Even if that would never come true, she still didn’t want to get married so early and spend the rest of her life doing housework.
Zhong Shulan was stunned when she heard that. “That was what you wanted to tell us?”
Jiao Yunshi nodded. “Yes. I had been thinking about this for a while now. I don’t want to just waste my life away the way I am doing right now.”
Jiao Boshan was so emotional that his eyes reddened. “Good. Good. That’s a very good idea. Dad is very supportive of that idea!”
Jiao Yunshi’s eyes burned with joy and hope. “Thanks, Dad. I knew that you would be supportive of me!”
Her being ill made her see her own deficiency. Even if Wen Rugui was fond of her, there would still be a big gap between the two of them.
Not only was there a big difference between their family backgrounds, but their educational levels and refinement were also very different. She would only feel more and more inferior to herself in front of him.
As such, she wanted to go to school and become someone who could contribute to her own country and be a productive member of society.
She wanted to better herself for herself, not for Wen Rugui.
Wen Rugui was a great man. Nevertheless, as great as he was, as long as he was not interested in her, then his greatness had nothing to do with her.
Looking at the light in her daughter’s eyes, Zhong Shulan teared up. She nodded heavily and said, “Alright. No arranged dates. Mom, too, is supportive of you!”
Jiao Yunshi picked up a chopstick full of meat and placed it in her mother’s bowl. “Thank you, Ma!”
Jiao Boshan frowned a little. “How come only your mother gets that?”
“Yes, yes, yes. I was just about to get you some too. Look, Ma. Dad still gets jealous at his age!”
“Your dad had been that way his entire life……”
“Don’t say that in front of our child……”
The atmosphere lightened, and chuckling could be heard all over the house.
The family of three enjoyed their time together in a loving way under the soft light.
