Chapter 312 - All of their eyes lit up. (2)

Edited by: Lulu

Tong Xuelu looked surprised. “Oh, so it’s almost Rugui’s birthday? But I am going to be very busy on Thursday next week. I don’t think I will be able to take the day off.”

Having said that, she turned and looked at the others. “Oh right, I have an announcement to make. I have been appointed the manager of the government-operated restaurant!”

Everybody with the exception of Wen Rugui was stunned when she said that.

Tong Jiaxin was the first to recollect himself. “Big Sister, you are really going to become the manager?”

Tong Xuelu nodded. “Mmhmm, starting tomorrow.”

Tong Jiaxin leaped three feet into the air. “That’s awesome. After you have become the manager, Big Sister, does that mean we can have meat every day?”

Tong Xuelu gave him a superficial smile. “Maybe, if you can pass your examinations.”

Tong Jiaxin’s smile froze on his face, “……”

Fang Jingyuan’s mouth dropped open. “Oh my gosh, Xuelu. You were just a worker at the factory a while back. Then you became a server at the government-operated restaurant, then the head chef. Now you are promoted to manager. How did you do that?”

Jiang Danhung looked at Tong Xuelu with respect. “Congratulations, Xuelu!”

The others, too, congratulated Tong Xuelu one by one. Tong Xuelu thanked everyone with a smile.

And, just like that, Wen Rugui’s birthday was forgotten by the others.

Forgotten……

Wen Rugui placed the fish with pickled vegetables down on the table and suddenly felt bummed out.

She was too busy to take time off, but he could!

If only she’d ask him, he would figure out a way to take time off and get back.

Pu Jianyi gave him a sympathetic look and said in a low voice, “Bro, I’ve done all I could.”

Wen Rugui, “……” His mood plummeted some more.

After that, everybody’s attention was moved onto Tong Xuelu’s recent appointment as a manager and fine cuisine, and nobody else brought up Wen Rugui’s birthday again.

Not even Tong Xuelu.

Tong Xuelu made tofu sheets in a dry pot, eggplants in garlic sauce, fish with pickled vegetables, garlic bok choy, and toasted biscuits.

The tofu sheets dry pot had a thick marinade, while the eggplants with garlic sauce had a subtle taste. The biscuits were crispy and tasty.

The fish with pickled vegetables was spicy, numbing one’s tongue, and its meat was very tender. All of the dishes were so good that one would almost swallow their tongues accidentally.

When the meal was over, everyone was once again conquered by Tong Xuelu’s cooking.

Fang Jingyuan didn’t care about her image and rubbed her belly. “Xuelu, your cooking is amazing as usual. Will you cook at the restaurant after you become the manager?”

Tong Xuelu shook her head. “I won’t cook anymore once the head chef returns.”

Fang Jingyuan let out a loud moan. “What am I going to do then??”

Tong Xuelu ignored her and went out to check on the toasted biscuits.

Wen Rugui had wanted to follow her out, but Fang Jingyuan beat him to it, dashing out to catch up with Tong Xuelu.

Wen Rugui, “……”

Fang Jingyuan caught up with Tong Xuelu and held onto her arm. “I finally understood why you dumped my brother!”

Tong Xuelu lifted her brows.

Fang Jingyuan, “My brother is not bad looking, but he doesn’t measure up to your boyfriend. I would not pick my own brother either if I were in your shoes!”

Not to mention her Big Brother’s awful personality!

Tong Xuelu gave her a look and silently lit a candle for Fang Jingyuan in her mind.

Fang Jingyuan went on to say, “Xuelu, now that we are good friends, I should be able to come over for dinner frequently?”

Tong Xuelu pulled her arm back. “Since when are we good friends?”

Fang Jingyuan grabbed Tong Xuelu’s arm again. “Once we have referred to each other as sisters, we are sisters for life. Anyway, it’s settled. I will visit frequently going forward!”

Tong Xuelu rolled her eyes.

By the time everyone was leaving, Tong Xuelu gave each of them some crackers as gifts.

Wen Rugui had something extra that nobody else had – duck eggs.

Tong Xuelu pointed at the duck eggs and said, “I want to wish you a happy birthday ahead of time. Please consider these duck eggs your birthday gift that arrived early.”

Wen Rugui’s look stiffened a little. “Thank you.”

By the time they had walked out of the alleyway, Pu Jianyi had almost laughed his head off. “AHHAHAHA, on mi, on mi, she gave you duck eggs for your birthday. This is hilarious……”

“……”

With his bag of duck eggs in hand, Wen Rugui looked very unhappy.

Pu Jianyi laughed even harder when he saw the look on Wen Rugui’s face. His laughter could be heard for miles.
