Chapter 39 - "Your grandmother called the factory this afternoon!" (2)
When she decided to come over, her ulterior motive was to trade jobs with Su Xiuying. Now, however, she didn’t care whether she can trade her position with her but this man must die.
She took a few steps back before running forward again as she shouted out, “Over here, Comrade Cops. Just a little bit further. I heard a woman crying and a man shouting. Please hurry up.”
He Baogen’s foot stopped in midair when he heard that. He stretched his neck to look down the alleyway.
He saw nothing but the footsteps going from far to near and the “Comrade Cop” startled him.
“Consider yourself lucky this time. I am going to kill you the next time you dare to talk back!”
He gave Su Xiuying another vicious kick before he turned and disappeared.
Tong Xuelu came out from the corner after he could no longer be seen.
“You must be Sister Xiuying, right. Are you alright?”
Su Xiuying was hurting and dizzy from the beating.
She looked up slowly after she heard Tong Xuelu speaking her name and, looking at the unfamiliar face, asked, “You…… know me?”
Tong Xuelu nodded. “I am a friend of your cousin Huang Xianglan. We can talk about this later. Let me take you to the hospital.”
Su Xiuying shook her head, “It’s fine. I am alright.”
Tong Xuelu figured that she didn’t have money on her. “Sister Xiuying, even if you are not worried about yourself, you should at least have the child check out.”
The child in her arms had their eyes closed and their face pale like a piece of paper. They had passed out at some point.
Su Xiuying, just realizing that the child had passed out, became anxious instantly and struggle to get up with the child in her arms. She, however, was too weak to get up on her feet.
Tong Xuelu quickly lend her support and took the child over before bringing her to the hospital.

There weren’t any visible injuries on He Xiaoqiu, her daughter. She was very startled and was dazed after she had regained consciousness.
They had arrived at the hospital’s little garden.
Tong Xuelu helped her sit down and asked, “Sister Xiuying, what are your plans now?”
Su Xiuying looked at her blankly with her swollen face.
What choices did she have?
As bad as it was, she only option was to grit her teeth and bear it.
She could only accept that she was an unlucky one.
Tong Xuelu could read her thoughts when she saw the look on her. “Sister Xiuying, have you not considered getting a divorce? You have work and can totally support yourself and your child. Why do you want to live like this?”
Su Xiuying pursed her dried lips and said nothing.
Divorce?
She had wanted to but as soon as she said it, her husband beat her so badly that she was bedridden for three days.
And nobody at her own family agreed to her getting a divorce. They said her getting a divorce would shame them and, if she did get a divorce, to never go back!
And, what about the child if she got divorced?
The He family would never let her keep the child and she couldn’t bring herself to leave her daughter behind.
Could she get a divorce? No, she couldn’t!
Tong Xuelu sighed and said, “Sister Xiuying, I know this is not my place but I felt unjust for you! It’s one thing if we are still in the old society, but this is the new society and our Chairman had already said that women can prop up half the sky. You are pretty and capable, so how could they treat you this way?”
Su Xiuying had been holding back her tears earlier but Tong Xuelu’s words brought up all of her feeling of aggrievement.
Before marrying into the He family, she was the beauty queen in the factory. She would never have chosen He Baogen had he not swore that he would be nice to her.
