Chapter 69 - "Comrade Tong, the suspect Tong Yanliang accused you for setting him up. What do you have to say?" (1)
Frowning, Tong Xuelu said, “Cousin had committed such a horrible crime. Wouldn’t you want to clearly criticize him and state your stance? Did you want to be critiqued and receive the death penalty with him?”
All of the Tong family members dared not breath too loudly anymore. “……”
Tong Xuelu glanced over all of the Tong’s. “I only slapped him to put on a show for the comrade cops. We needed to show that we are good citizens and would not commit crimes the way our cousin would!”
“……”
Jie Jinhua was going to ask Tong Xuelu to ask the other Tong family for help. Her lips parted and closed, and she couldn’t form any words.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want to save her oldest grandson, but she was scared.
When someone else was critiqued in the past, she joined in and spit on them and threw rocks. That was fun at the time. Now she couldn't help but shuddered when she put herself in their shoes.
Aunty Cai spit in Jie Jinhua’s direction and said, “Look at how much Xuelu had done for you all and you turned around and yelled at her. What a family of white-eyed wolves!”
Mother Xu, “They are white-eyed wolves for sure. Who said the night before that her grandson will never be arrested? Welp, he is arrested now. Good. We don’t need people like him staying here!”
Jie Jinhua gave Mother Xu a deadly stare but she, nevertheless, dared not to be as arrogant as she was the day before.
Seeing that Jie Jinhua dared not talk back, Mother Xu lifted her head and stuck her chest out like a hen that had won a battle.
Tong Xuelu lowered her eyes slightly, her thick eyelashes covered up the smile in her eyes.
Befriending the Xu family was, indeed, a very good move on her part.
With Mother Xu’s help in rebutting Jie Jinhua, that had saved her so much work.

After Tong Xuelu was taken away, the two other administrative staff quickly returned to the factory to make their reports.
The reported back everything that they had seen in details, including how the Tong family had been dining at the government-operated restaurant every day; not helping out with any work and having Tong Xuelu and her sibling take care of all of the work; and, on top of them, caused troubles left and right.
When the president of the union heard that, his brows furrowed so much that he could kill a fly between them. “Ridiculous. They are being too ridiculous. Their behaviors were that of capitalists!”
Plant Manager Yu, too, frowned. “Tong Dajun was so different from his brothers.”
Tong Dajun and his wife were very hard-working people. They had never got into a tiff with anyone during their 10+ years of working at the factory.”
How were his brothers and nephew like that? That was, indeed, mindboggling.
The president of the union picked up his ceramic cup and took a sip of water from it. “Lao Yu, you need to watch out when the two Tong brothers want to work at our factory. People like that could affect the morale of the entire factory.”
Plant Manager Yu went silent for a little while and nodded. “Don’t worry. I’ll watch out for that.”
Tong Dajun and his wife and saved the lives of both of his sons and he was very appreciated of that and had, therefore, arranged for them to work at the factory.
After the accident, he was the one who helped with funeral matters and did the legwork for their death benefits.
If he must say, he had repaid the couple already. He wasn’t going to put the entire factory at risk just to show his appreciation.
He would need to give the officials over that factory a heads up and tell them to not sign off immediately when the Tong brothers wanted to work there.

With the Tong Yanliang incident, the atmosphere at the Tong’s were gloomy. Even the young children dared not make any noises.
