It was already the last day for the club recruiting period. Once next week started, they would have to submit their club members list with at least five members. If not, the club cannot be officially recognized, and the club wouldn't be able to use a clubroom and receive a budget. The Help club was still short on members. During their lunchbreak, Akuma was seated on his chair, his face lying flat on his desk.
"I can't believe the restart to my conquest ends in failure."
He then turned his head sideways as he saw a shadow covering him in shade. Angelie was standing next to his desk, looking down at him.
"I don't care about this conquest of yours, but I still plan to start this Help club. I wish I could remove you from the registration, but that will make it harder for me to start the club. So, don't just slack off and do something!"
He let out a huge sigh. Then he turned his face away from Angelie.
"Being nice and trying to do good things sure is hard."
"It's not if you genuinely want to do it."
"Well, I don't. But don't tell others that, or all of this is for nothing."
Angelie closed her eyes and breathed out a huge sigh of her own.
"Well, if you're insistent on JUST making a good image, then stand up. We're going somewhere."
"Where? Don't tell me you're confessing—"
A sharp punch landed from the heavens to Akuma's head. Divine retribution, as it were, for almost saying something blasphemous. Everyone that was inside the classroom looked at them.
"We're going to check on Ketsueki-kun in class 2-D."
Akuma was rubbing the lump on his head. His gaze followed Angelie as she moved towards outside the classroom.
"Hey! He already said he won't join! Don't waste my time! Ugh."
She wouldn't listen and turn around. He had no choice but to stand up and go after her. He knew that a second punch would come if he didn't go with her.
---
They arrived at the entrance of class 2-D. There were only a few students left inside as most of them went outside to eat somewhere. Angelie entered the room, smiled at and talked to a girl that was nearest to the door. She was reading a book by herself.
"Hi, sorry to disturb you. I would just like to ask if you've seen Ketsueki-kun around."
The girl put down her book and looked at Angelie.
"Ah, he's the guy selling bread the other day, right?"
"Yes, that's him. Do you know where he is?"
"Oh, he's been absent since yesterday. Something about his father being sick and he has to take care of him? That's what I heard our teacher said."
"Is that so? Thank you for your time."
Angelie had a worried look on her face as she left the classroom. She passed by Akuma without talking to him.
"Hey, so where is he?"
He followed her toward their classroom.
"He's been absent from school since yesterday. He's taking care of his dad."
"Nothing we can do about that."
Angelie stopped walking and stayed silent. Akuma walked past her without looking at her.
"Actually, there is. Let's go to his house or their shop later and see if we can help."
Upon hearing this, Akuma clicked his tongue and turned around to face Angelie.
"Why do we need to do that? More importantly, why do I have to do that? First of all, it's not a guarantee he will join the club even if we do somehow help him in any way. I don't work in uncertainties, especially in low-odds situations."
"And that's the fundamental difference between us. I genuinely want to help him."
She walked past him. Akuma just stared at her as she was walking by him. He was expecting a sort of bigger retort than what he heard.
"That's it? No grand standing or something?"

She continued walking and just whispered to herself.
"I knew this was never going to work."

That afternoon when classes ended, Angelie, Mimi and Sanaka were standing side by side in front of a bakery in town. It was apparently closed as the sign on the door indicated, but through the glass window, they could see a shadow moving around inside.
"Ugh, why am I getting dragged around again."
Sanaka had her shoulders slumping and head hanging.
"Well, I thought we could get some bread on our way home."
Angelie smiled at Sanaka while leaning over to look at her friend.
"We both know you wanted to check on that guy selling bread the other day. But if you're paying, I don't mind the treat."
"Oh, sure. That was the plan, after all."
Angelie chuckled while checking her wallet. She let out a sigh as she saw there was money inside.
"But the sign says they're closed."
Mimi pointed at the signage hanging in front of the door.
"Let's go inside and ask around, then. I see someone's moving inside."
Angelie grabbed the door handle and pushed the door halfway open. She peeked inside and looked around first before speaking.
"Good afternoon—"
"Oh, I'm sorry. We're closed for today."
Someone was sweeping the floor when the door opened. It was Kiba.
"Ketsueki-kun. You're here. Guess we got lucky."
Angelie looked back at the other girls outside and happily informed them. The three of them entered the shop.
"Ah, Fukushuu-san and friends. What brings you here? If you're going to buy bread, I'm afraid we have nothing that can be sold today."
Kiba forcibly laughed and gestured toward the empty shelves.
"Why are we just categorized as 'friends'? We have names, too. Right Furui-san?"
"While I do agree, I don't think we introduced ourselves last time. It was only Angelie-san who did, while she also offered to help him if he needs it."
"Oh, that's right…"
Sanaka's face was beet red. Angelie and Mimi laughed together.
"Anyway, we just wanted to check in on you if you needed any help. I asked someone from your class earlier, and she said you've been absent."
"Wow. You didn't have to go so far for me. I really appreciate it, though!"
"It's nothing. We're aspiring to be the Help Club, so this is really something we want to do."
Angelie and Mimi were engaged in conversation with Kiba. Sanaka meanwhile separated herself and wandered a bit inside the shop.
"Well, THEY are aspiring to be the Help club…"
Sanaka whispered to herself while looking down and hanging her head.
While they were talking inside the shop, the door suddenly opened and a figure emerged to enter the bakery.
Akuma burst into the scene; his chest pumped up.
"Do not be fooled! Despite that Saint acting all holy and benevolent, she is hiding an ulterior motive to her actions!"
