Jin’s POV
When Jin wakes up this morning, a girl is sleeping right next to him. She has the figure and stature of a nine years old. Her hair is silver in color, her ears are pointy and covered in scales, and her canine teeth are jutting out of her mouth. She’s also completely naked.
Jin quickly gets up from his bed and go to his refrigerator to take out some ingredients. He then cook some food with those ingredients before the girl wakes up. While he’s at it, he also cook breakfast for himself.
Soon, the tiny dining table that he owns is filled with plates and bowls of food. Right on time, the girl gets up from the bed, lets out a yawn and stretches her body. She then opens her eyes lazily, showing her sapphire eyes.
Next, she gets down from the bed and sit down in front of the dining table. She slowly picks up the fork placed in front of her by Jin. She uses it to pierce a piece of beef and puts it inside her mouth. She lets out a satisfied expression and starts to attack the rest of the food. Jin starts to eat his breakfast as well.
The two of them ate in complete silence and did not say a single word to each other. When they were done eating, the girl cuts down her fork and sighs contentedly.
“Thy deity is pleased with the offering~.” she mutters in a laid-back voice.
“I’m glad that you loved it, oh my Goddess.” Jin tells her sarcastically. “Why did you come out from the Vault without permission again?”
“I did say I want to visit your world one day, right? You should be glad that I waited until you have a stable income before coming out.”
“Am I supposed to be grateful about that?”
“Yes you are. Now feed me more food to show your gratitude~!”
“I hate to break it to you, but I’m out of ingredients.”
The girl looks shocked at that.
“But I’ll starve!” she complains.
“Yeah, right. I know for a fact that you won’t get hungry quickly once you ate while you’re in that form.”
She puffs up her cheeks.
“I should have used my onee-san form.” she grumbles.
“Too late.”
Jin did the dishes and go to his closet so that he could get changed. He then tosses one of his shirt to the girl.
“I know you’ll never catch a cold, but wear that anyway. There’s something called having a decency in this world.” he instructs.
The girl stares at the shirt like she’s looking at a foreign object, which it is.
“How do you put this on?” she asks.
Sighing, Jin helps her with it. It’s a tad too big for her, but it’ll have to do for now.
“I’ll be heading out now. You stay here until I get back.” he tells her.
Another shocked expression from her.
“Weren’t you going to show me around the place?”
“Believe me, I would rather do that than going to the place I’m heading right now. However, there’s some rules in this world I have to follow.”
“Even if you’re the Hero?”
“Even if I’m the Hero.”
“This world is horrible. I miss Ifezan already.” she grumbles.
“That’s my thought for pretty much every single day. Maybe you could open up a portal so that we could go back to Ifezan.” Jin suggests.
The girl shakes her head.
“I’m bound by an Ancient Law that forbids me from opening up portals to travel between worlds.”
Jin rolls his eyes in annoyance. Not for the first time, he wish that the Ancient Law could prevent her from breaking out of the Vault like she owns the place.
“Just stay here, okay? I promise that I’ll show you around once I come back.”
The girl lies on her back at the floor and starts to throw a tantrum.
“I don’t wanna~! I want to take a look around right now~!” she whines.
“Oh, just act your age, won’t you?”
She stops flailing at once.
“You know, this is one of the many reasons that you’re not popular.” she tells him.
Jin has to admit. That gave him a slight mental damage. He sighs and takes out his phone.
“Hold on, I’ll call someone to come and act as your guide on my stead. Hopefully, she’s willing to take the job.”
The person picks up her phone after a few seconds.
“Hello? Is something wrong, Minase-kun?” she asks from the other side.
“Good morning, Sergeant Wakaba. The thing is, I have a favor to ask from you.”
“A favor? Is it some sort of emergency?”
“Not exactly. Still, I would love it if you could help me out.”
Chinatsu’s POV
Minase explained the situation to Chinatsu over the phone. He first begins by explaining the origin of the double-bladed sword he uses as a weapon. Felfarthen, as he calls the sword, is made from the body parts of an Ice Elder Dragon that he managed to defeat. Chinatsu remembers this part of the story when he told both her and Date about his past.
What he didn’t tell them then is that he also has a set of armor made from the same dragon. He only wore that armor for a single day, though. Apparently, when that Elder Dragon was on the verge of death, she used her remaining energy to cast a reincarnation spell on herself. After the set of armor was made, the soul of the dragon was transferred to the armor. With this, she could turn to her human form anytime she wants as long as the armor is intact. And that’s why Minase had been using his regular armor made of adamantium all this while despite having one of the best armor around.
He had been locking her up in the Vault which he said was like a storage room that leads to another dimension. Unfortunately, the dragon can still use her magic well enough, and she would break out of the storage every once in a while. And it happened again just now.
“So, what do you want me to do?” Chinatsu asks him once he was done.
“I was hoping that you could babysit her for me.” Minase pleads.
“You’re actually asking a random people to look after me?” Chinatsu hears the voice of a young girl she has never heard of from the other side of the phone.
“It’s either this or back to the Vault. Your choice.” Minase says to the girl whom Chinatsu assume is the Elder Dragon. “So do you think you can come over, Sergeant Wakaba?”
“Of course. I’ll head over to your apartment right now.” Chinatsu agrees.
“That’s great. Before you come here though, please get some clothes and shoes for her if possible. Her body size is around the same as a 9 to 10 years old.”
“I’ll see what I can find around my house. Worse comes to worst, I’ll just go buy some new ones at a department store. Is there anything else?”
“Yes, and this is very important. When she says that she’s hungry, please feed her as soon as possible. The last time her stomach made a rumbling noise, it started a minor earthquake.”
“...I’ll take extra care that her stomach is full all the time.”
“Please do. And thank you for your trouble.”
“Think nothing of it.”
“I have to head to school soon, so my apologies since I won’t be here to let you in. But please don’t worry. I’ll teach her on how to open the door.”
“I can do that much, okay?” the girl/ Elder Dragon complains.
“No need to worry. Just leave her to me.” Chinatsu tells Minase.
After the call got disconnected, Chinatsu gets up from her bed and changes her clothes. She then sent a text message to Date and Chief Hayashi to tell them that she’ll be absent from work today. Next, she leaves her room and heads downstairs to the dining room. Everyone at the dining table are surprised to see her wake up this early, since her shifts usually start a few hours later.
“Do you have a sudden emergency?” mother asks.
“You can say that.”
“Well, sit down then. I’ll get your share of the breakfast.”
“Thanks, mother. By the way, are you still keeping the clothes that Chifuyu and I wore when we were younger?”
“How young are we talking about?”
“About 9 to 10 years old. Also, I need some shoes too. And underwears.”
Everyone stopped what they were doing and stare at Chinatsu.
“I can’t say why, but I need them for job purposes.” Chinatsu continues to say without noticing the looks they’re giving her.
“Did you awaken the lolicon inside you?” Esty asks curiously.
“No I didn’t. Where did you even learn that word?”
“A television program last night mentioned it.”
“Well stay away from those programs before you get corrupted. And as I said, I need those clothes for work.”
“Here’s your breakfast.” mother tells her while serving Chinatsu her share of the breakfast.
“Thank you, mother.”
“If someone needs me, I’ll be inside the storeroom to look for those old clothes.” mother continues to say before leaving the dining room.
“Say, Chinatsu. Will you come home on time tonight?” Esty asks Chinatsu.
“It’s kind of hard to say though. Why do you ask?”
“I bought a new game last night. I was hoping that we could play together.”
“Sure, if I’m not too busy.”
“All right! It’s a deal, then!”
Chinatsu more or less got used to having this so-called cousin around. Even so, she still wants to find out Esty’s true intention of coming to their household and acting as one of their family members. That’s easier said than done, though. Something is still preventing her some doing research about the redhead. Unless she does something about it, she can never go anywhere.
“Come on Esty, eat faster or we’ll be late.” Chifuyu reminds Esty.
“Oh, right. My bad.”
They quickly finish the remaining of their breakfast and did the clean up as well.
“Well, we’re off father, onee-chan.”
“See you later, Chinatsu and Uncle Shun!”
“Be careful on your way to school.” father cautions them.
“Have fun at school.” she tells the two of them.
“We will!”
And with that, Chinatsu is left alone with father. Father is one of the top managers at a prestigious company. Due to his weak constitution that he got a few years back, he was given permission to work from home. Hence, he has no need to eat his breakfast in a hurry.
“Here you go, Chinatsu. Will these do?” mother appears with some clothes for young girls.
“I sure hope so. Thank you for finding all these in such short notice.”
“No worries.”
After the clothes are wrapped up nicely in a paper bag, Chinatsu leaves the house as well and heads to the apartment where Minase lives. Once there, she knocks on the door.
“Who is it?” Chinatsu hears the voice of the little girl she heard just now asking from the other side of the door.
“My name is Wakaba Chinatsu. I believe Minase-kun told you about me.”
“He did. Hold on.”

The door opens, and Chinatsu looks downward to see a small girl around the age of 9 staring back at her. She’s wearing a loose white shirt that’s way too big for her. She has long, silky silver hair, sparkling blue eyes that could compete with the most brilliant sapphires, and most alarmingly, a pair of pointy ears with scales on them.
So this is the Elder Dragon that Minase mentioned. She definitely doesn’t look the part. However, if Minase’s stories about her is anything to go by, she could easily destroy an entire city. Best to be respectful.
“May I come in?” she asks cautiously.
Wordlessly, the dragon steps aside and lets her in. Chinatsu closes the door softly once she’s inside.
“May I know your name?” she asks the dragon next.
“It’s Nyri. And you don’t have to be so respectful around me. I don’t have any urge to wreck cities and change the local landscape ever since I got killed the first time. Just speak to me normally.”
“Well, if you insist.”
Nyri looks at the paper bag.
“Are all the clothes and shoes you got for me inside that?” she asks.
“Yes. All of them were worn by my younger sister and I. Take whatever you like.”
The dragon takes out an assortment of clothes, underwears and shoes from the bag and rummages through them.
“Minase-kun made a blunder. No offence, but he didn’t say anything about those, um, ears of yours. I could have gotten you some hats as well if he told me in advance.” Chinatsu says to Nyri.
“He didn’t because there wasn’t a need to.”
“Why is that?”
“Hold on. Give me a couple of minutes.”
After two minutes or more, her pointy ears transformed themselves to normal-looking human ears. Chinatsu could only stare at the sudden transformation. Then again, the supposedly human-looking girl is actually a dragon. Looks can be very deceiving. Once done, Nyri continues to select her clothes. She picks up a blue frilly dress used to be worn by Chifuyu.
“Do you used to wear this when you were younger?” she asks Chinatsu.
“Oh no, that was my sister’s. I was, or rather is, never interested in wearing something that cute.”
Nyri picks up a gray shirt next. Chinatsu used to wear that one all the time until she couldn’t fit in it anymore.
“I think I like this one. I’ll be taking it.” Nyri tells Chinatsu.
“Sure.”
She then chooses a few other clothes, all of them worn by Chinatsu.
Chinatsu picks up a pair of black shorts. “Don’t just choose shirts. You have to wear something like this to cover up the bottom half of your body too. This and a pair of panties.”
Nyri looks at Chinatsu with a dreaded expression.
“Do I really have to?”
“I’m afraid so. I don’t know how you dressed up when you were at Ifezan, but the rules here are different.”
Nyri puts down the shirt she was holding and picks up a piece of panties with both her hands.
“The design of this is so childish.” she grumbles.
“It can’t be helped. It’s for children, after all.”
The dragon sighs.
“I should have gone for the form with the same age as Jin.” she mumbles.
“What’s stopping you?”
“Casting a transformation magic on yourself isn’t easy when your real form is as big as a building, even for an exalted being like myself. As such, I need to spent long hours to transform even a finger. If I want to transform my whole body, I have to spent at least five days.” Nyri explains.
“That’s quite a long time.”
“I know. I was being considerate of Jin since the bigger form requires more food. I shouldn’t have bothered.”
“In any case, get dressed. Once you’re done, we’ll be heading out.”
“All right. Just give me a minute.”
Nyri takes off the shirt she was wearing and puts on the set of clothing more fitting to her tiny size.
“Did Minase-kun left you with a key to this place?” Chinatsu asks her.
Nyri responds by handing Chinatsu a key. “Here you go.”
“Thank you. Now, I need to establish a few rules before we head out.”
“Yes, yes. The usual, right? No going on a rampage. No playing pranks. And definitely no eating humans. Jin made sure I followed these rules whenever I want to walk around at Ifezan. Can we go now?”
“Of course.”
Chinatsu made sure to lock the door before they leave the apartment. And then, they head down to the street.
The sky has barely gone bright, and there are barely any people around. Chinatsu is glad for this. A grown woman walking around with a little girl will arouse nothing but suspicion. The last thing she wants is being reported and get arrested by her colleagues.
Nyri, on the other hand, has no such worries. She’s keep on looking around the place with sparkling eyes. Chinatsu couldn’t help but smile. Despite the fact that she claims that she hates childish things, she sure is acting like a child now.
“Chinatsu, Chinatsu! What’s that?”
“That’s a police station.”
“What about those moving boxes?”
“Those are cars.”
Nyri is acting exactly like Esty when she first arrived at the Wakaba household. Esty, too, asked lots of questions about the things around her. Her ignorance can be disregarded for the most part, but there was a time when she couldn’t even answer the location of her own hometown.
“You’re not allowed to search for my background, got it?” she told Chinatsu.
And that’s what made Chinatsu unable to search for Esty’s background. Suddenly, Chinatsu has a wild but sensible thought. What if Esty is from Ifezan just like Nyri? That would explains a lot of things. Then again, her place of origin doesn’t really matter, what’s really important is-
“Say, Chinatsu.”
Nyri’s voice brought Chinatsu back to reality. Unlike the child-like demeanor she had just a moment ago, the Nyri right now is putting on a serious expression.
“What is it, Nyri?”
“I smell some creatures that don’t belong in this world roaming around nearby.”
That makes Chinatsu on edge in an instant.
“Are you sure about that?” she asks to confirm.
“Pretty sure. The creatures from Ifezan have a distinct smell that the animals from this world don’t have.”
“I’m sorry for asking this favor from you, but is it okay if you bring me to them?”
“Of course. But first, I have something that I need to tell you.”
“What is it?”
Nyri touches her stomach with her tiny hand.
“I’m getting hungry.”
That makes Chinatsu even more on edge. Having an earthquake in a place full of civilians is no joke. Who knows what kind of damage it might cause. This is bad. It’s still early, so all the restaurants and other eateries are no opened yet. As for the nearest convenience store, it’s on the other side of the street. As Chinatsu was busy with her thoughts, she heard Nyri says something that she failed to catch on the first time.
“I’m sorry, Nyri. Can you repeat that?” Chinatsu requests.
“I said, you don’t have to worry about me going hungry. Now that i think about it, I can just eat the creatures. Or is that not allowed?”
…Oh, right. Nyri isn’t an ordinary human girl. She’s a dragon. Eating a monster or two isn’t that out of the ordinary for her.
Chinatsu shakes her head.
“No, it’s fine. Besides, I would be grateful if you could do that.”
Nyri tilts her head in confusion at the last part of Chinatsu’s word, but didn’t ask her to elaborate.
“Does that mean I can go find those creatures now?”
“Of course you can. However, is it okay if I follow you?”
“Sure. Just don’t stray too far from me. If something ever happened to you, Jin would turn the armor that my soul is in to scrap metal.”
Nyri starts following the xcent of whatever monsters that she managed to sniff out with her nose. Instead of sniffing around like a dog, all Nyri does is walk normally. Eventually, Nyri brings Chinatsu to a forest. The surrounding is so quiet that Chinatsu could hear some footsteps.
“Are they trying to run away?”
“Yup. It’s no use though.”
Nyri opens her mouth and breathes out lots of white mist that covered the entire forest in an instant. Chinatsu hears some panicked cries, then whimpers, then nothing. Next, Nyri inhales slowly while keeping her mouth open. As Chinatsu watches, some tiny blocks of ice come flying towards them. Or more precisely, towards Nyri’s mouth and inside it. Chinatsu chooses to ignore the fact that she saw some pieces of flesh inside those ice cubes. After a few seconds, the ice cubes finally stop coming.
“I’m done.” Nyri reports.
“Thank you.”
Nyri raises her eyebrow.
“Why are you thanking me? I did this because I was hungry.” she asks.
“Still, those creatures might have ended up harming some innocent people. You’ve helped to prevent that.”
“...Humans are weird.”
The tour continues normally after that. When it was almost time for Minase to come back from school, Chinatsu insists that Nyri return, no matter how much the latter protested.
“You can just ask Minase-kun to bring you outside again, right?”
Chinatsu feels guilty for pushing the burden to him, but she’s really out of choice. Most pedestrians who passed by those two had been giving Chinatsu weird looks for the past few hours, and she really needs to give Nyri back to Minase before she got reported. She thought Nyri would protest some more, or worse, start to get upset. Instead, she just nods her head.
“Fine. I’ll go back for now.” she says reluctantly.
If Nyri’s real age was just as young as the body she has right now, Chinatsu might have pat her head. But she’s probably much, much older than she looks, and she probably hates being treated like a child just because she looks like one.
Minase took quite a while to return to his apartment. Chinatsu’s question of his whereabouts were answered when she sees the plastic bags that are full of groceries.
“I’m sorry that I took so long to come back. Nyri ate all the food I had, so I had to restock.” he apologizes to her.
“No worries. I wasn’t in a rush anyway.”
“I wasn’t done with the tour around this place yet. Can we go outside again?” Nyri asks him.
“Just a minutes. At least let me put my stuffs away.”
Jin looks at Chinatsu.
“Once again, thank you for your help, sergeant. You can go back now.” he tells her.
“All right. Take care. You too Nyri.”
“Bye, Chinatsu.” Nyri tells her while waving her hand at her.
With that, Chinatsu goes back to her house so that she could babysit another one whose mind is similar to a child’s.
