Jin’s POV
As Fox Lady has mentioned, today is going to be a long day. Right after he woke up, he got up and cooked a hearty breakfast for himself as well, instead only for Nyri. He also cooked some meat and stored it inside a takeout box before storing the said box inside the Vault.
“That’s an unusual amount of food you got there.” Nyri notes as he starts eating the pile of food in front of him.
His usual breakfast mostly consists of a simple main course such as grilled mackerel or a piece of chicken teriyaki accompanied by a bowl of rice, a bowl of miso soup and some slices of pickles. Now, his breakfast is an omelette rice, some green salad, some fried chicken karaage, a piece of steak and a bowl of miso soup.
“I have a big fight ahead of me, so I want to fill up my stomach more than usual.” he explains.
“It’s rare to see you being this prepared.”
“Like I said, it’s going to be a big fight. I need to be prepared as much as possible.”
The fight with Shuten Douji was decent enough, but Tengu was much weaker than Jin thought. He hopes that the evil Fox Lady won’t disappoint him. It’s so hard to find a good opponent once he has become as strong as he is now.
“Since you said that it’s going to be a big fight, does that mean that you’ll be out all day again?” the dragon asks.
“I won’t deny that possibility.”
She sighs. Any outsider who’s not familiar with her personality might mistake her for not wanting to be alone again, but not Jin. He could tell that she’s just depressed over the fact that she has to eat takeout food once more.
“Say, can I go visit the Yamasaki household again?” she asks all of a sudden.
“Where did that came from?”
“It’s been boring playing all by myself, so I want to play with Aiko for a change.”
“Hmm, hold on.”
Jin doesn’t have Captain Yamasaki’s phone number, so he has to ask it from Sergeant Wakaba.
“Good morning, Minase-kun. How may I help you today?” she asks him once she picks up the call.
“Good morning, sergeant. I was wondering whether you have Captain Yamasaki’s phone number.”
“...Why do you want it?”
It might be Jin’s imagination, but he thought he heard slight fear coming from her voice when he mentioned the captain.
“You see, Nyri wants to hang out with his daughter. I can’t just bring her there unannounced, so I need to ask for his permission first.” he explains.
“I see. I do have it, but I think it’s more appropriate to call the number of their house phone.”
“You have a point. Do you happen to have the number?”
“I do. Hold on, I’ll send you the number on LINE.”
She sent it as promised, and Jin wastes no time in calling it. After waiting for a few seconds, someone answers the call.
“Hello, this is the Yamasaki household. May I know who’s calling?”
It’s Shoko-san, Captain Yamasaki’s wife.
“Good morning, Shoko-san. This is Minase. I’ve visited you and your family the other day with Nyri.” he reminds her.
“Oh, Minase-kun! It’s been a while! To what honor do I owe for having you to call us today?”
“Well, Nyri wants to come over to your house and play with Aiko-chan. Is that all right with you?”
“Of course it is. They haven’t seen each other in a while, and I’m sure that Aiko will be really happy.”
“In that case, is it play if she comes over right now?”
“Of course it is. Please tell her that we’ll be waiting for her here.”
“Understood.”
Jin hangs up.
“I’ve gotten the permission to head over for you.” he tells Nyri.
“Great. Now to teleport there once I’m done eating.”
“It’s nice to have fun and all, but don’t cause any trouble while you’re there, okay?” he warns.
“Yes, yes.”
“And don’t eat up their entire food supply if they offered you food. Just eat until you’re not really hungry, and I’ll feed you again when I got back.”
“You know, you sound a lot like a mother these days…” she grumbles.
Oops. He may have hang around Wakaba so much that he’s starting to act like her. Best to be careful. Then again, this is Nyri they’re talking about.
“Just behave yourself, okay?”
“Okay, okay.”
While eating, Jin decides to watch the news to find out about the damage of the city that occurred last night.
“...the total damage was estimated to be around more than two million yens. As for the casualties, at least 1,632 wounded are accounted for. As for the deceased, 34 deaths were reported so far.” a female newscaster reports.
Wow, the numbers are pretty high.
“For our next report, Silver Wolf seems to have obtained two minions. Here is the footage recorded last night.” she continues.
The camera cuts to a scene where Kubo and Rei-san are seen fighting a group of youkais.
“The man with the mask is known as K, while the woman in the maid uniform is known as Reina. So far, their code names are the only information given to us by the police. They have assured us that they will give us more information about them, but we’ll have to see.” the unseen reporter informs.
Next, the camera switches to show Date Jr., also fighting some random youkai
“Here we have Hanya Mask, the true defender of our city executing her justice. We’re very glad to have her exterminating the evil monsters.”
This time, the reporters sounds kind of excited. A fan of Hanya Mask, Jin assumes. Speaking of them, Jin needs to call them in order to check up on them. He begins with Kubo.
“Have you recovered yet?” he asks the otaku.
“I think so. I don’t feel like puking anymore.” was the report.
“That’s good to hear. What about Reina?”
“After she woke up, she kept on apologizing about how useless she was. It took me quite a while to calm her down.”
“Where is she now?”
“She has to work today, so I let her went back to her house to get changed and things.”
“...I see.”
Jin was thinking of asking them to join the war that’ll be happening later, but changed his mind at the last second. Best to have them take things one step at a time and let them rest for now.
“Um, I watched the news just now.” Kubo begins all of a sudden.
“Yeah?”
“They’re expecting the police to give out more information about Reina and I. does that mean that we’ll have to appear in front of a press conference soon?”
“I definitely won’t deny that possibility.”
“Oh, boy. I’m getting sick just by imagining it.” Kubo mumbles.
“Haven’t we had this conversation before? Just refuse to attend it and focus on your training and actual battles. Everything else can be pretty much ignored, especially those pesky reporters.”
“But-”
“Just explain it to Sergeant Wakaba. I’m sure she’ll understand and will cover up for you.” Jin interrupts.
“Won’t it cause trouble for her?”
“Eh, she’s probably gotten used to this kind of things by now. I mean, I caused lots of trouble for her. Even so, she’s has never abandoned me.”
“Um, I’m pretty sure I said this before, but I think that’s because it’s you.”
“The point still stands. She’s much kinder than she looks, so rely on her more.”
“Okay. I’ve managed to get her phone number, so I’ll do that once we’re done here.”
“Yeah, you do that. Is there anything else you want to tell or ask me? Any other worries that you have?”
“None so far.”
“Good. By the way, the training for tonight is canceled since I have things to take care of.”
“...I understand.”
“You don’t sound happy.” Jin notices. “Don’t you always complain that the training I gave you are too hardcore?”
“Well, I somehow got used to it, even though I’m still bad at a lot of things.”
“Just use this chance to get some good rest. Doing that is part of a training too. Watch some anime, surf the net, just forget about your job for a while.”
“I understand.”
Jin cut the conversation short as he still has to call Date Jr..
“The thing is Silver Wolf-san, I’ve watched the news just now and found out about the number of casualties last night. There were even deaths.” she immediately begins.
Oh, boy.
“Look, don’t blame yourself over those numbers, alright?” Jin wastes no time in telling her.
“But, if I was there-”
“That’s the thing, you weren’t. it sounds harsh, but it’s the truth. You can’t be everywhere at once. As such, there’s no way you can save everyone.”
She went silent for quite a while. She’s probably trying her best not to brood about it too much.
“This will keep on happening as long as I’m being part of all this, won’t it?”
“It will keep on happening even if you’re not.” Jin confesses.
“...I see. This is tough, isn’t it?”
From listening to her voice, Jin could tell that she’s too emotionally unstable to take part in a fight. Guess that’s the sign that she’s not joining later as well.
“Just stop thinking about it. And there won’t be any training today, so don’t bother coming to the police station. Just stay at your house and take a good rest.”
“...I shall do as you say.”
Yup, she’s totally unstable. If it was the usual her, she would have insisted on continuing her training.
Now that the two of them have been taken care of, Jin finishes the last of his breakfast and did the cleaning up. As for Nyri, she has already opened up a portal and head to the Yamasaki household.
Once Jin has done with cleaning all the dishes, he heads to the Kameda Shrine. This time, the door was opened by Mayuri-san instead of Ayumi.

“Good morning, Mayuri-san.” he tells her politely.
“Good morning, Minase-kun.” she greets back with a smile. “Did you have a good sleep?”
“I suppose so. At least, I’m recharged enough to face what’s coming later.”
“That’s good to hear. Please do your best.”
“Of course.”
Mayuri-san brings Jin inside the shrine. Even though Jin has been here numerous times, he follows behind her meekly.
“Have you had breakfast?” she asks him as they walk.
“Yes. I’ve had some food right before I came here.”
“A shame. I was more than happy to cook your share of breakfast.”
“I hate to offend you, but I don’t think my stomach will be happy if I only eat the types of food available inside your kitchen.” he tells her honestly.
She merely chuckles at that.
“I guess a growing boy won’t be satisfied by only eating a small amount of meat and lots of vegetables.”
“By the way, is everyone awake yet?”
“Last I checked, everyone except the young lady with the red hair. Her name was Estyshana, wasn’t it?”
Yup. He thought so. Not only is she bad with mornings, but she also has difficulty in waking up by herself. Heavens know how Wakaba managed to wake her up every time there was school.
Mayuri-san brings Jin to the front door of a room. She then knocks on it.
“Girls, Minase-kun is here.” she tells those inside. “Are all of you appropriately dressed?”
“Yes, grandmother.” came Ayumi’s voice.
Mayuri-san turns around and nods at Jin encouragingly.
“Go on.”
“Thank you.”
Jin opens the paper door and heads inside the room, leaving Mayuri-san outside.
All the girls inside are wearing gray bath robes that are long-sleeved and have long skirts. As Mayuri-san has said, Estyshana is the only one who’s still sleeping.
“Morning, girls. Did all of you had a good sleep?” Jin greets then asks casually.
“Good morning, Minase-kun. Yes, we did have a good sleep.” Ayumi replies.
“Someone, on the other hand, is still sleeping.” Jin notes drily while staring at the still-sleeping Estyshana.
“We’ve tried to wake her up for a while now, but she’s too much of a deep sleeper.” Ayumi informs.
“I can carry her and toss her into the pool at the courtyard.” he suggests after a shrug.
“Like I said before, you can’t do that!” she chides.
“In that case, I’m out of ideas.”
“I have a much better idea.” Aldenia butts in while grinning mischievously.
“...Suddenly, I’m very scared.”
“Oh, don’t be. You would probably love it too.”
“Let’s hear it then.”
“It’s simple, really. The sleeping princess needs the kiss of a prince to wake up.”
Jin looks at Estyshana again.
“...Yeah, that’s a bad idea.” he says eventually.
“Why’s that? You know you want to do it.”
“That’s not the point here. Can you imagine the ruckus she’ll cause if I did it without her permission?”
“Oh, so you do want to do it!”
“Well, yeah.”
“Then just be a man and do it, consequences be damned!” Aldenia encourages loudly.
“No no no. Just because I want to do it, it doesn’t mean that I should.”
“Oh, you’re no fun!” she pouts.
Besides, Jin doesn’t want Estyshana to wake up for a while, even if they’re heading out soon. Her sleeping face is too cute for him to ignore. He would love to take pictures, but the other girls are watching. He has to refrain himself-
Suddenly, Jin receives a text. He takes out his phone and looks at the screen. It’s from Aldenia, and she sent him a photo of Estyshana’s sleeping face. He looks at the tomboy. The latter is grinning impishly.
“I took this earlier. Hope you enjoy it.” she says to him with a small voice.
“Thanks. I owe you one.”
“Good. Maybe you can come with me one day to enact scenes from some of my favorite BL books.”
“Never mind, I take that back.”
“Oh, don’t be so quick to refuse. You might end up liking it.”
“Yeah, not a chance.”
Estyshana chose this moment to wake up. She probably woke up since Jin and Aldenia were being too rowdy.
“Why is it so noisy in here?” she asks groggily while rubbing her eyes.
“Morning. About time you wake up.” Jin tells her.
Estyshana stares at him for a few seconds. She then notices her bed hair and proceeds to fix it hurriedly by combing them with her hands.
“W-W-W-W-W-W-What are you doing here?” she stutters while still frantically combing her hair.
“Did you forget everything that happened last night? I’m joining in the fight later, so of course I’ll be here.” he replies calmly.
“Here’s a comb for you, Esty-san.” Ayumi tells the demon while handing her a comb.
“Thanks.”
They wait patiently as she cobs her hair.
“Wait a second, why are you still here?” she demands from Jin all of a sudden.
“Why can’t I?”
“Because we’ll be changing our clothes once I’m done combing my hair!”
“Oh, no worries. I’ll only be looking at you.”
Her face got red in an instant.
“That’s not the problem here!”
“Again, no worries. After all, I’ve already seen your-”
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH~!!!” she screams.
“Whoa, what’s with the huge reaction, Esty?” Aldenia asks curiously.
“Nothing, it’s absolutely nothing! Now get out of here, Jin! Don’t make me get up!”
“Fine, fine.”
“Please head to the dining hall and wait for us there.” Ayumi tells him before he leaves. “Just turn right after leaving this room. The doors of the dining hall are red instead of black like the others.”
“Got it.”
And now he got chased out. Well, it’s inevitable this time he suppose. He shrugs and heads to the dining hall by following the directions given by Ayumi.
When he got there, he saw the most unusual line-up ever: Fox Lady, her servant Marika, Mayuri-san, Iemitsu-san and Shuten Douji. This is such an unusual view that Jin doesn’t even know where to start.
Iemitsu-san was the first one to notice Jin approaching them.
“A fine morning to you, Minase-dono.” he greets rather formally.
“Good morning, Minase-kun.” Mayuri-san, on the other hand, made her greeting in a normal way.
“Good morning, Iemitsu-san, Mayuri-san.” Jin greets back.
“Good morning, Minase-dono. Care for some inari sushi?” Fox Lady asks him.
Naturally, there’s a plate of inari sushi right in front of her.
“No thanks, I’ve already eaten.” he declines.
“A shame, that. Well, you know who to ask if you ever change your mind.”
Jin looks at Shuten Douji. The huge oni is making himself quite at home. Jin could tell that Iemitsu-san is doing his best to hold back his anger from lashing out at the murderer of his granddaughter.
“What are you even doing here?” Jin asks the oni.
“You’re about to fight the other Tamamo no Mae. You think you can leave me out of the fight?” he demands.
“It’s already been decided that only Minase-dono and myself will be the ones who will face my other half.” Fox Lady tells him stiffly.
“Don’t bother. He would probably insist on coming with us even if you try to stop him physically.” Jin tells her as he sits down opposite them.
Shuten Douji shows him a wide grin.
“You know me so well, lad!” he guffaws.
Fox Lady sighs.
“Very well. You may come with us.” she concedes.
“Now that’s what I’m talking about!”
As they’re having the discussion, the girls have arrived at the dining hall.
