“Kuroji, look, I built a snowman that looks just like you.” A young boy said.

“Huh? What the fff—Hell?! No you didn’t. it doesn’t look like me at all!”

“Ah, Kuroji was about to say a bad word.”

“No, I didn’t!! …. Don’t tell mom—”

“…? Julian, you’re right it does look like Kuro.” A young girl affirmed. “Button eyes, pointy nose, and well… Kuro, you wouldn’t look so round if you hadn’t wore layers and layers of coats and jackets.”

“While I agree with you about the layers of jackets. I wouldn’t say I have button eyes nor a pointy nose!! That sounds creepy as hell!” Young Aozameru exclaimed. “And if it really looked like me, why won’t you give it arms?”

“THAT’S what you’re concerned about…? But Kuroji, you’d always stick your hands inside your coat pockets…even though you’re already wearing layers of mittens.”

“I can’t help it. My hands get cold easily.”

The young girl placed the both of her bare hands up to her face.

“Then how bout you remove those mittens and hold my hand?” She offered. “They feel pretty warm.”

“………”

A momentary silence ensued as the Aozameru looked at the girl to put her offer into consideration. While the other young boy with them looked somewhat riled up glancing between the two, looking forward to Aozameru’s answer.

“Are you sure they aren’t warm just because your palms are sweaty?”

“AOZAMERU, THAT’S HELLA RUDE!!”

❄❄❄

“Hm… I suppose the snow Aozameru IS lacking some features. After all, we only gave it a face.”

With that being said, Aozameru’s two childhood friends stared at him for a while, trying to come up with details they could add to the snowman they built to resemble him

“Aozameru, how about you you give us one of the many layers of coats you’re wearing right now?”

“No! I’ll freeze to defath. And besides, THE SNOWMAN IS ONLY THE SIZE OF TWO HANDFUL OF SNOWBALLS.”

“Hmph, I suppose you’re right, then…… Aozameru, take one of your mittens off—”

“—I REFUSE! I’ll lose my fingers!!”

“Eh? How does that even make any sense? You’re clearly overreacting.”

“If your fingers freeze up to a certain low temperature, they can break easily.”

“Eh? Is that true? I’m sure your fingers won’t freeze THAT easily. Now hand over at least one mitten!”

While the two childhood friends argued and bickered, the one young girl stared at the snowman for a while until she had an idea.

She picked up a rather small paper cup and started scribbling a horizontal zigzag pattern on it.

“Then how about this?” She presented, equipping the paper cup atop the snow-Aozameru’s snowball head.

“Ooh, I get it, it looks like Aozameru’s weird looking top hat.”

“Actually, it kind of looks more like a crown……… Wait, weird looking top hat…? NO, ITS NOT! It’s my father’s hat… and don’t think that I’ll be handing this to you either!”

“Yeah yeah, it’s because the cold will freeze your brains or something.” The young boy mocked. “Anyways, let’s make a snowman that resembles her next!” he stated, pointing at the girl.

“Huh? But I don’t want to remove my bunny ear headband.”

“And you don’t have to, we’ll just wrap a ribbon around and atop of the snowball head like this, and tie it like a pair of bunny ears.”

“Hmm… can I give my snowman cat ears instead?”

“You can give your snowman both cat ears and bunny ears, I guess.”

“Wait, then, what about you?” the young Aozameru pointed at the young boy. “What about YOUR snowman?” he suggested.

“Eh? What about my snowman…? Hmm……” The young boy trailed off. “Well, unlike the both of you, I don’t really have anything distinctive to feature.”

“What? That can’t be true…”

Aozameru scooped up two snowballs and piled it on top of one another. He then drew his hand closer to an open packet of red paint…… but he hesitated.

Ah, I wouldn’t want to stain my mittens. And with that thought in mind, he removed his layer of mittens one by one. He took off one mitten then another underneath it, and another, and another, until he exposed his delicate child-like hands.

Exposing his bare hands to the winter felt like a new experience to him, but it allowed him to paint with his hands without staining any of his clothing of red paint.

He dipped his finger in the red paint and started drawing on the snowman’s face…… but before he could finish it completely, he just froze up.

Aozameru just sat there, incredibly still. And upon notice, his childhood friends were wondering what’s wrong with him.

“Hellooo…? Aozameru, are you still there?”

“What were you doing? What is that…?”

“…………”

The young girl took this opportunity to get a hold of Aozameru’s bare hand.

“Ah, wait, his fingertips are covered in paint—!”

“Hm? I don’t mind. His hands looked cold.”

The warmth of the young girl’s hand was able to thaw the winter freezing the young Aozameru’s hand. Eventually, he woke up from his stillness, he shook his head, and answered his childhood friend’s question.

“For your snowman, I was trying to draw that mask you always tried to put on your dog. You claim that you don’t have anything distinctive on your appearance such as my father’s hat or her bunny ear headband. But your actions are enough to make your appearance look distinctive from others. “

“I……”

“Aozameru, that’s very profound.”

“I’m grateful you tried to make me feel better about myself, but to use that example…… Sorry Aozameru, but I don’t really need your awkward consolation.”

“Urk—!”

“And besides” He added. “Since she decided to put cat ears on her snowman, I think I want to put dog ears on mine!”

“Eh? But won’t that look the exact same?”

“Nuh-uh, they’re totally different.”

The first winter Aozameru spent outside with his childhood friends, they built snowmen that resembled each other. However, since then, that had been one of the warmest winters he’s felt.

It wasn’t his layers of coats and clothes and mittens that his warmest winter, however it had been the company of his childhood friends.  They were like the bright and warm fire in the middle of winter for him. And he’s felt colder for each year that passed since he hasn’t seen them.

He’s become anti-social on top of having the title of Ice king of Attakai Tenki Academy. However, he’s only fortunate that someone has actually managed to stick with him throughout his last year of highschool.

❄❄❄

“My name is Natsumi Mayoi.” I introduced myself. “Um… can you get the hell of me now?” I asked with a plastic smile on my face.

“Ah, apologies, that was rude of me.”

Well, I’m glad that I didn’t have to shove the Ice King of my highschool.

“………”

“Huh?”

All of the sudden, he’s clammed and frozen up like a statue again, just staring at me as though it were a contest to see whoever blinks first loses.

Hmm…

“Frozen up… huh?” I thought out loud.

At the end of the day, I dragged him into the train. It has a heater on this time of the year.

“Apologies for the inconvenience.”

“It’s cliché to be saying this, but you should try saying ‘thank you’ instead.”

“Right…… thanks.” He said. “Eugh, now I smell like whatever grease or filth that was attached to you.”

“I don’t care if you’re the Ice King of Highschool. I’ll fucking throw you off of this train right now.”

And in the first place, he’s the one who clung onto me first! Hmph.
