Li Peng saw Lin Fei’er, who was leaning against the cushion, and a thick bitterness choked in his throat.
He had promised to treat her well till they grew old, how did things happen in this manner?
“Sorry, I’m sorry, Fei’er. I thought you’d never want to see me again.”
As he spoke, Li Peng placed the thermal food jar on the table and carried the bouquet of white lilies he had bought earlier on as he walked toward Lin Fei’er.
“Fei’er, these are your favourite lilies. I promise, I won’t hurt you anymore. We’ll love one another for eternity.”
Love one another for eternity?
Lin Fei’er glanced at the lilies which still glowed with water drops. She had to admit Li Peng had a good eye for flowers.
In the past, as long as Li Peng bought her lilies, she would jump in joy like a child but now, when Lin Fei’er looked at that beautiful bouquet of lilies, she felt her heart being pricked by needles.
She and he would go on their separate ways after all.
“The flowers are beautiful but I don’t like them. Li Peng, please take them out later.”
Upon hearing this, Li Peng was stunned. His smile froze. He was taken aback for a moment before using deceptive means to ease the atmosphere.
“Since you think they are beautiful, how could you not like them? I have bought them and they can’t be returned. Let’s just leave them here, alright?”
Lin Fei’er looked at him faintly. “Because you no longer deserve to give me lilies anymore.”
Su Wan stood by the side as she listened to Lin Fei’er’s and Li Peng’s conversation. Initially, she thought Lin Fei’er couldn’t bear to part with Li Peng but she had not expected Lin Fei’er to say such a sentence!
A strong, pleasant surprise arose in Su Wan’s heart. She seized her hands silently, hoping that Lin Fei’er could remain firm.
When Li Peng heard what Lin Fei’er said, he paled. He knew Lin Fei’er’s bark had always been worse than her bite. Hence, he seized her hand immediately. He knelt down and started to plead.
“Fei’er, can you please forgive me? I love you. I’ve liked you for so many years and I swear I’ll cherish you more in the future. Please give me a chance?”
Lin Fei’er saw how Li Peng begged her humbly. She had a bitter smile but her teary eyes were exceptionally bright. She looked at him in a manner as if she was piercing through Li Peng’s heart.
“You say you love me. I believed it in the past, but I no longer do”
Li Peng saw Lin Fei’er’s bitter smile and tears slowly appeared in his eyes. He argued eagerly, “Fei’er, please trust me! Xiaobing and I…it was merely an accident, I…”
If he did not love Lin Fei’er, why did he pursue her from high school till university?
He liked her bright and charming smile; he liked her lively writings and he liked how she depended on him every day.
He truly loved Lin Fei’er!
When Yang Xiaobing had returned from abroad, he discovered that a person could like many people at one time but he only liked Yang Xiaobing and did not love her.
There were many men who messed with other women outside and still kept their wives at home. Weren’t these men still living harmoniously in peace with their wives?
At least, Li Peng had never thought of divorcing Lin Fei’er and marrying Yang Xiaobing.
When Lin Fei’er heard Yang Xiaobing’s name from Li Peng’s mouth and how he addressed her intimately without her surname, a throbbing pain brushed past her heart. The tears which she had been controlling fell from her eyes.
“You tell me it’s an accident? Then, why did you lie to me and repeatedly tell me you were busy and had lunch dates with your client when you were accompanying her?”

Hearing Lin Fei’er’s reproach, Li Peng kept quiet. He was too ashamed to explain further because what Lin Fei’er said was all true!
The atmosphere was strangely repressed.
He lowered his eyes and his heart suddenly hurt. After a long silence, Li Peng looked steadily at Lin Fei’er and pleaded very hard once again.
“Fei’er, all this has passed. Xiaobing had promised to return to Nanyang once she delivers the baby. I won’t keep in touch with her anymore.”
Lin Fei’er looked at the man holding her hands. That moment, a myriad of thoughts filled her mind.
A river of past footage appeared in her mind. Some were happy and some were unhappy but the clearest was when Yang Xiaobing knelt down and tugged her skirt.
Yang Xiaobing’s begged her with her pitiful face, “Sis Fei’er, will you give me Brother Peng? You’re about to be a mother too. How could you bear to see another life being ended?”
Lin Fei’er shivered and felt that the blood in her entire body seemed to have frozen into ice cubes that moment.
“Li Peng, since the day my child died, we’re over.”
Lin Fei’er heard her own voice entering her ears quietly. It seemed so near, yet so far.
Maybe everything else would pass, but this won’t, no matter what.
Lin Fei’er would never forget how Li Peng shielded Yang Xiaobing yesterday and how warm blood flowed on her calves the minute she was hit by the car.
She had once imagined how the little life in her stomach would look like when he or she grew up but unfortunately, she would never get to see it.
Her child had died. Why should she raise the child of someone she hated?
The tears in her eyes could dry up but the scars in her heart would never heal.
Li Peng’s heart was in such pain, as if an invisible gigantic hand was holding it so tightly that he couldn’t breathe.
The air in S City in May was scorching hot but Li Peng felt cold, as if he was in the snow!
Li Peng shook his head vigorously. He didn’t know if he was persuading Lin Fei’er or deceiving himself.
“No, no, Fei’er, we still have lots of time together, how could this be the end? Fei’er, I’ve thought about it. We can temporarily quit our jobs and visit many places, eat many kinds of delicious food and see different sceneries…”
That was once Lin Fei’er’s dream. At that time, it was important that Li Peng accompanied her to those places.
However, when Li Peng talked about this dream now, Lin Fei’er felt extremely desolated.
She opened her mouth to interrupt Li Peng’s imagination.
“Li Peng, let’s get a divorce.”
It turned out that it was much easier to utter this short sentence than she had imagined. When she woke up, she had been in a dilemma.
Now, her voice was firm and unshaken.
She was serious.
Li Peng trembled. He had not expected Lin Fei’er to ask him for a divorce so calmly, as if discussing what she was going to cook for him tomorrow.
“Fei’er, don’t abandon me. I can’t live without you. Please, I love you.”
Sweat appeared on Li Peng’s wide palms and the hot temperature made Lin Fei’er tremble.
“Please, I beg you, please give me a chance. Just one chance will do. If I do something to betray you in the future, you can kill me and I won’t complain.”
Certain opportunities had been given but once lost, would never re-appear.
