Chapter 199: Give Me A Confirmation
Xu Ziyao’s eyes did not have much expression. She looked at Su Wan’s pretty face and then her eyes landed on Jiang Xuecheng, who was behind Su Wan.
“Xuecheng, I haven’t seen you for quite some time. You seem to be thinner.”
Was Xu Ziyao blaming her for not taking good care of her son?
Feeling uneasy, Su Wan looked down and felt bafflingly nervous. She kept feeling that Jiang Xuecheng’s mother didn’t quite like her.
Jiang Xuecheng could see Su Wan’s helplessness. He stepped forward and seized her hand. Then, he held Su Wan’s hand while walking forward.
“Mother, you’re wrong. Recently, I’ve been ordered by Wan Wan to eat more every day. It’s only possible that I’ve gained weight.”
Jiang Xuecheng’s voice was steady and what he said was defending Su Wan in every way. Su Wan looked up at the man beside her. Her initial awkward manner became more natural in that instant.
She was here to have dinner, not be arrested for public trial. If she were to show a face of nervousness, she was afraid the elders’ impression of her would sharply reduce.
Xu Ziyao examined the overlapped hands of the two of them and a light flashed through her beautiful eyes. Which part did this son of hers like about Su Wan?
However, when she saw that there was a person whom Jiang Xuecheng would defend, Xu Ziyao’s eyes were filled with complicated emotions. She seemed to be disappointed but happy at the same time.
Xu Ziyao took the wet napkins which the servants passed to her. She wiped her hands and sat coldly opposite Su Wan and Jiang Xuecheng.
“Let’s eat.”
Su Wan examined the luxurious dishes on the round table. It was strange that besides the servants, there were only four people at the table, namely Luo Xiuxiu, Xu Ziyao, she, and Jiang Xuecheng.
Jiang Xuecheng’s father, Jiang Wei, and his grandfather, Jiang Zhiyuan were not around…
Su Wan couldn’t control her curiosity. Hence, she raised her head and looked at Luo Xiuxiu who was sitting on her left.
“Grandmother, are Grandfather and Father busy today?”
“Yes, both of them are busy and are still outside.”
While Luo Xiuxiu spoke, she took a piece of braised pork tripe in brown sauce for Su Wan.
Su Wan couldn’t resist Luo Xiuxiu’s enthusiasm and friendliness. Luo Xiuxiu had taken lots of vegetables for her just now. If she were to continue taking for her, Su Wan was afraid she wouldn’t be able to finish her food.
Su Wan exclaimed immediately, “Grandmother, I have lots of vegetables in my bowl. You don’t have to take any more for me. This is more than enough.”
Luo Xiuxiu had inquired from Ah Si a long time ago and knew that Su Wan was a meat enthusiast. She had misunderstood that Su Wan wished to eat but dared not take. So, she kept taking for Su Wan.
“Wan, this is your house. Don’t be shy. If you’re not full, you must tell me.”
Su Wan smiled helplessly and could only nod.
As Luo Xiuxiu had been moderating the atmosphere, this meal was more relaxed than Su Wan had imagined.
However, toward the end of the meal, Xu Ziyao who had been keeping her silence, spoke.
“Xuecheng, when do you and Wan plan to have your wedding ceremony? I’ve asked you before the first of May if you want to have your wedding ceremony on Labor Day but you kept procrastinating. What’s your plan?”
Xu Ziyao’s voice was elegant and smooth. It was so clear it was like the sound of jade collision, but when it entered the ears of everyone present, the atmosphere stagnated that instant.

Su Wan’s heart missed a beat. So, Xu Ziyao had called Jiang Xuecheng to ask them to have their wedding ceremony on the first of May.
Su Wan signaled to the man beside her with her eyes, ‘You didn’t tell me such an important thing!’
Xu Ziyao was not to be blamed for thinking about their wedding ceremony. The Jiang family was a famous family in Jiuzhou. Families of power placed importance in reputation and what’s more, a wedding ceremony was such a big thing one shouldn’t be careless about.
After Jiang Xuecheng and Su Wan got married, they had been deliberately or unintentionally delaying their wedding ceremony. This made Xu Ziyao extremely worried.
Jiang Xuecheng shot Su Wan a glance and then his eyes moved to Xu Ziyao. He raised his brows calmly.
“We’re not in a rush. Wan Wan and I have registered our marriage. There’s no difference as to when we want to hold our wedding ceremony.”
When Xu Ziyao heard this answer, disappointment crept onto her face. Since the day her son grew up, he had not discussed matters, no matter big or small, with his mother.
Xu Ziyao took a deep breath. Her eyes were fixed on Jiang Xuecheng and she still clung to the topic of their wedding.
“Yes, no doubt you’ve registered for marriage but you’ve got to give the girl a wedding ceremony. Wan is the granddaughter of the Xie family. They are well-educated and I don’t wish to lose face in front of my own teacher. Give me a confirmation, will you have your wedding ceremony before National Day?”
Su Wan was stupefied. She wanted to say her grandfather, Xie Changfeng, was very satisfied with Jiang Xuecheng as his grandson-in-law and would not mind if they had anything ceremonial or not.
However, when she saw Jiang Xuecheng replying, Su Wan kept silent.
“Before National Day?”
Jiang Xuecheng’s dark eyes deepened. He stood up. His side profile was handsome and cold, just like Xu Ziyao’s temperament.
“Mother, I think National Day is quite a good day. Let’s wait till National Day to hold our wedding ceremony.”
“You…”
Xu Ziyao stared at Jiang Xuecheng’s sharp eyes and felt blood rushing to her cheeks. She felt that Jiang Xuecheng was deliberately making her angry.
Luo Xiuxiu saw the tense atmosphere between the mother and the son and so, she tried to be the peacemaker.
“Hey, isn’t it almost June? Our national day is coming soon. Mm, we’ll have to start preparing.”
Seeing Luo Xiuxiu’s smile, Xu Ziyao finally suppressed the agitation in her heart and sat down. However, her pretty face was as cold as the night, sending shivers down people’s spines.
Su Wan looked at the two icebergs sitting there and felt she and Luo Xiuxiu were freezing to death.
Jiang Xuecheng and Xu Ziyao were not on good terms with one another. This relationship between the mother and son made Su Wan frightened.
Moreover, Su Wan could see that Xu Ziyao made her request for her son’s sake but Jiang Xuecheng didn’t appreciate it.
At the thought of Jiang Xuecheng’s childhood, Su Wan’s compassion arose in her heart. She knew that this man had probably been locked up in the ward by Xu Ziyao for a long time when he was young and so had a rebellious attitude toward his mother.
However, how could this blame fall on Xu Ziyao?
Jiang Xuecheng was not healthy when he was young. As a mother, Xu Ziyao would definitely want her son to live well. Locking him up was a last resort…
After dinner, Xu Ziyao’s cold look subsided.
Xu Ziyao walked down the stairs and saw Su Wan and Jiang Xuecheng packing up, about to leave. Jiang Xuecheng ignored his mother but Su Wan nodded at her.
“Mother.”
Xu Ziyao nodded slightly at Su Wan. She looked at Jiang Xuecheng and with a calm voice, said, “Haoxuan and An’ning are coming home in a few days. Could you pick them up from the airport?”
Upon hearing this, Su Wan felt her heart skip a beat. The other day, in Jiang Xuecheng’s office, she had accidentally received Sheng An’ning’s call.
Suddenly, a girl’s voice like the sounds of nature, appeared in her ears. She said ‘Brother Xuecheng’, every word of hers conveying her love for Jiang Xuecheng.
