Chapter 27 – Orn vs. Black Dragon ③ Aerial Battle

As I approach the Black Dragon, the haze tendrils, which have split to its maximum of ten separate tendrils, attack me in various forms.

After narrowly avoiding the haze attacks, if I can get close, I use my sword, if I gain some distance, I also input mana into some of the formulae I had set up earlier to activate magic, keeping up the attack.

Because the battlefield is in midair, the shortcomings of [Raise Repeat] become clear.

[Raise Repeat] definitely allows magic to be fired with power increased by several levels.

However, the direction in which the magic is shot follows the same course that the previous magic passed through and cannot be changed.

Also, since the activation timing is fixed in advance, it’s quite difficult to hit a Black Dragon that has mobility in the air.

 If so–.

“[Reflective Barrier]!”

The magic amplified two times is easily avoided, but with [Reflective Barrier], I forcibly change its path.

[Reflective Barrier] is not magic that can be activated instantly, so it was only possible to redirect one spell.

However, this attack is also modified with [Impact], so it causes considerable damage to the Black Dragon.

Part of its back hit by this attack is gouged out.

Following that, I erase the foothold created through [Magic Convergence], and let my body fall freely by gravity.

When some distance is created from the Black Dragon, I make another foothold and land there.

Extend my left hand towards where the Black Dragon is.

“[Thunder Shock]! “

An amount of [Thunder Shock] enough to blanket the ceiling activates.

 Pain runs through my head.

 Overuse of magic.

But this isn’t the time to care about something like that!

As long as this is a closed space, there is no escape for the Black Dragon.

[Thunder Shock] hits the Black Dragon directly.

However, there is no damage because it is beginner magic — if not for [Raise Repeat].

[Thunder Shock] has its power increased by two stages over time, dealing great damage to the Black Dragon.

While its movements remain sluggish, immediately after I activate the magic, I clad my sword in the pitch black aura and close in on the Black Dragon.

(If it’s the current me, I can endure it!)

Approaching as close as possible, I fire a jet-black slash at the abdomen of the Black Dragon.

This time, without being avoided, [Impact] is also added.

Being too close to the Black Dragon, the resulting shockwaves from Heavenly Flash also send me flying away.

While regaining my balance in the air, I somehow manage to land safely on a [Magic Convergence] foothold.

Quickly turn my gaze towards the Black Dragon, its stomach has a gaping hole.

As I had thought, it wouldn’t be as easily damaged like the wings and tail, but that blow was critical.

  ◇◇◇◇

“Is this Orn’s true abilities? …So what he’s shown us up to now was only a small part?”

In my sight, I see a young man more than a match against a Black Dragon that even all the members in the 1st Unit of “Night Sky’s Silver Rabbit” had been unable to defeat.

 The scene is awe-inspiring.

Physical abilities, number of magic formulas constructed and activated in parallel, that dark slash. Everything that’s happening before me is beyond the realms of my imagination.

Even for me. I wonder what the Officers, and the beginners are thinking about this current scene.

It was a wise decision for me to invite Orn to this guided exploration.

Without Orn, we would all be dead already.

But at the same time, I don’t think we should have shown this to the beginners.

It clearly illustrates the difference in quality between Orn and us.

I’d say there are some beginners here who will quit being explorers.

As though ridiculing the efforts of us explorers in “Night Sky’s Silver Rabbit”, Orn is overwhelming the Black Dragon.

“You don’t need my support magic, huh.”

 I knew.

That the world that Orn sees is different from mine.

Still, for the past month I’ve been training, aiming for what I saw last month from him.

And yet, now, I’m being shown a further distance.

Far enough that my support magic is unneeded.

I thought I wanted to become an explorer who could stand shoulder to shoulder next to him.

But, will that day ever come?

Even though I left my parents’ house, ran away from home, and have no other path than to succeed as an explorer.

 My goal is too far.
