Chapter 3: Testing Effects

(two days after the phenomenon)

 

After learning of my gift, although I was very taken aback at first, following the head nun's advice I knew I had to confirm to what extent were my gift's effects.

 

Limitless physical growth, although the skill description was straight to the point it was also at the same time very broad.

 

I mean I do understand that it means I can train my strength and speed without worrying about limits. It is a biological fact that there are limits to how much a human can grow, and my gift basically allows me to disregard that limit and continue on improving.

 

Although I might not be there yet, I am certain that with enough constant training I can reach what the former top athletes in the world had achieved, and surpass them after even more training.

 

But what about physical aspects such as height, does my gift also affect my height? Am I going to be as tall as a skyscraper one day or something?... I hope not.

 

It was questions like these that force me to get out of my lazy ass and test out my gift.

 

First, I made a graph that shows my current physical data.

 

All the categories were things I can immediately affect through training or effort with height being the only exemption.

 

Height: Slightly taller than average

Weight: Slightly lower than average

Strength: Average

Speed: Slightly lower than average

Agility: Slightly lower than average

Stamina: lower than average

 

Reference: kids from the orphanage (excluding Orson, his looks are not the only thing that's similar to a bear cub.)

 

"Hmmm…. Looking at my data, despite only spending most of my time reading books I am still within the average range for my age group."

 

It seems that I was born with quite a gifted body, even before that strange phenomenon.

 

{If that phenomenon didn't happen, I might've aimed to be a professional athlete in the future.}

 

"Well now that I have the before data let's set my next data gathering to next month and see what the data looks like then."

To train my strength, I did push-ups, to train my speed and stamina I went on a run where I will only sprint, only stopping after exhaustion, and to train my agility I did multiple lateral exercises.

 

Perhaps becoming too conceited due to knowing that I had a naturally gifted body made me underestimate the weakness of an average 5-year-old.

 

Even though I expected a little bit of difficulty due to being such a bookworm, I… didn't think it would be this bad.

 

I complained as I read the status report I wrote on a piece of paper

 

"Pushups done, 5 ½, gave up midway to the 6th,

Run, distance: roughly 90 meters, time: 14 seconds, hmmm, I've read somewhere that states that kids usually have greater energy levels than well-trained adults.

Is this the reason why I was almost able to reach 100 meters despite being below average in my age group? Well, the speed is still horrendous though so forget it.

Laterals, too tired so was not able to do it, (recommended: switch agility and stamina training time)"

 

"Sighhhh, this is going to be harder than I thought, but I have no reason to rush so let's just take our time to improve ourselves."

 

{It's still going to be a while before any problems reach this isolated town so I can just take it slow and steady}

 

I thought as I closed my eyes and fell asleep.

[In a forest approximately 10 km from the orphanage]

 

A rabbit was twitching as if it was poisoned.

 

But it was not only this rabbit that did this as almost every animal in the world was also experiencing the same thing after the phenomenon.

 

Many pet and farm owners were very troubled as it was already 2 days yet the animals still didn't seem to be getting better.

 

Many believed this to be an extreme issue as there is the possibility of all these animals simultaneously dying, forcing humanity to lose numerous meat-based resources

 

But what they didn't know was that this was a natural process. Just like humans, living organisms such as animals and plants were also affected by the burst of energy.

 

Although they didn't receive gifts of the same type as humans, they still received something.

 

And that was the hastening of evolution.

 

This "gift" would soon result in the Increasing of strength, natural abilities, and even the intelligence of this soon-to-rise, competitors.

 

Bringing in a new era while plunging the world into chaos after they awoke.
