The water of Lake Caidreamh was calm that morning as Officer Robert Jacobs drove up to take his break. He always came to the lake on his breaks. He would park his car and lean on the hood enjoying a cup of coffee and a cigarette.

He knew he should give up smoking but each time he tried something happened that made his anxiety go up and then back to smoking. The last time he tried to quit, he found out his wife was pregnant. Normally this would not be a reason to be anxious but he was still worried. He worried that something might happen to him on the job and he would not come home to his family. He worried about the crimes he witnessed and even the deaths. His son was born about two months ago. He thought he knew love before but when he held his son in his arms for the first time he felt a new sense of love. He looked down at his son as he slept peacefully in his arms thinking there was no one in the world he loved more. Of course that brought its own set of worries. And that's why on this autumn morning he was standing at Lake Caidermah having a cigarette with tears in his eyes.

They had gotten a call late that night, a woman woke up to find her infant son was not breathing. The dispatcher called out and Robert took the call and went out to the house. He was the first one to arrive on the scene but it was already too late. The woman had let her son sleep in bed with her and must have rolled over on top of him in her sleep. The image of that infant boy will haunt his dreams. He called his wife as soon as the call was done to check on his son. Having a few hours left in his shift, he could not race home the way he wanted to, so he called her. His son was sleeping peacefully in his bassinet.

So here he was leaning against his car looking out at the water.

A figure stood on the other side of the lake watching the police officer. The lake was dying as it was her time to come forth. She needed more power and more souls to perform the ritual. She paced on the side of the lake trying desperately to find more souls but she was limited. She could not leave the lake, and therefore all the souls needed to come to the lake. With it being autumn, less and less people were coming and that meant less souls. Had her time come during the summer months, this would have been easy but not now. "Fuck this curse. I could have all the souls I wanted if I could just leave," she said with a growing frustration in her voice. "Without more souls, the lake will die. I have to get the man to the lake."

Robert flicked his cigarette to the side, "Well I need to be getting back." He signed, "Nights like these make me want to retire early." He turned to leave and then he heard a voice calling to him.

She dove into the water and swam just a few feet from the shore, the steam from the lake rose all around her as she spoke, "Come swim with me." Her brilliant blue eyes sparkled as she glanced his way. She reached her hand out to him, "Come join me. Swim in my waters." She was standing bare-skinned in the cold but the heat from the water steamed off her body. One hand was reaching for him and the other was pleasuring herself. "You could help me, we could help each other. Come join me, pleasure me in my waters."

Officer Jacobs rubbed his eyes in disbelief, here before him was a beautiful woman begging him to come to her. Where did she come from, he wondered. I must be more tired than I thought.

Jacobs shook his head thinking about his wife at home, "No miss I am sorry, I have to get going." He thought of all sorts of excuses, "I'm on duty and my wife is home waiting for me."

The lady of the lake smiled, thinking of him and knowing all about the town she dove under the water. She resurfaced with a new skin, the skin of his wife. "But I am here waiting for you," she said in his wife's voice.

Something strange came over Robert as if he had no control over himself or his actions. He fell forward and fumbled on his belt as he raced to undress and run to the water. He couldn't fight her words for all he saw and heard was his wife's voice. All rational thought had ceased as he ran.

He ran to the woman, and she embraced him. Together they moved farther into the water. She kissed him and let her hands explore him. One moment she was a beautiful young girl and in a blink of an eye, a decaying corpse.

Jacobs screamed, he thrashed but there was no escaping the dead woman's clutch.

The voice made a horrific sound as it said, "Come into my waters," then it pulled him under.
