Minie could not stay with Rob that long as William woke up crying. She sighed and kissed her husband and dressed quickly as she could not go to her son naked. With pajamas on, she went to see William. "Good morning, is someone hungry?" She asked as she yawned.
The infant was laying on his back crying, but his mother understood. Infant cries mean different things and after a while; Minnie realized just what her son needed. "Oh you need to be changed first. I see, well let's get that done and then we can eat." She lifts her son up gently and takes him to the changing table. As she changes his diaper she sings a little song to him as he smiles up as this mother. "Oh someone is a happy baby today."
Over the last few weeks, after having William, Minnie felt sad and almost depressed. She had always wanted to be a mother so that was not making her sad. She knew in her mind that it was her hormones coming down from being pregnant but her heart didn't know that. She would often cry at odd times and especially when Rob went to work that she was all alone. That her life would be nothing but dirty dirties and feedings. She tried to breastfeed as long as she could build her breast hurt so much and exhaustion set in.
Today however and for the first time in a long while she was feeling rather good. She lifted her son up and walked into the kitchen with him so she could prepare his bottle. She placed him in the bassinet she had in the living room, she turned on the mobile on the top so he could be entertained while she worked on his bottle. She chose a mobile that had bright colors and woodland animals that spun around and seemed to dance to the music. She watched him for a moment as his eyes were fixed on the animals before she went to make his bottle.
In the kitchen she heard a woman's voice but no one was in the house. She looked around for a moment but shrugged it off thinking she was hearing things. But then it happened again, "Come into my waters."
"Come into my waters, whatever does that mean," she said as she prepared his bottle. Minnie set a pot on the stove so she could heat the bottle for William. Just then the phone rang and she sighed knowing it was probably that station calling Robert in for something. He only just got home, how could they be calling him now.
She reluctantly went to the phone but before she could half awake Robert got to it first. "Hello," he said, dreading the voice on the other line would be someone from the station. "I see, well I only got off a few hours ago. Okay, I can do that. See you soon."
Minnie was standing in the kitchen with her arms folded. As soon as he hung the phone up she spoke, "You need to sleep."
He leaned against the wall, to steady himself. "They gave me a few hours to sleep but..." He knew sometimes he told her things he shouldn't. Every officer did. He, like most officers, needed someone to confide in and talk to and for Robert it was his wife Minnie. "They found an abandoned car at the lake and they want me to check it out." The more he thought of it the more odd it became. "I take my break at the lake," he said without thinking. He thought for a moment about the woman in the lake and then turned to his wife.
Minnie, though she didn't talk about it a lot, was a witch. Her mother was a witch and her father was a sorcerer. Sure Minnie has magical powers as most people in the town did but she hated her parents. They left her when she was little and she never forgave them for that. Minnie was determined to marry a man who would be a good father and be a good mother herself. That was probably why she was so torn up after having William.
"I know you know all about magic and things," the town after all was protected by magic. "Last night I took my break at the lake and heard a voice calling to me," he had to tell her, he couldn't lie to her like that. "A woman's voice and it pulled me to her, to the lake."
Minnie felt sick to her stomach. The way he was acting. Did he cheat on her? She had been standing in the kitchen but she turned from him as went to sit as she felt her legs giving out on her. She kept her mouth closed for fear she would vomit.
Then William told her everything. He told her about the kiss and the voice and how he ran from her. He told her how he felt and how it was hard to fight this magical force.
Minnie looked at him with tears in her eyes. She was so full of love for him and her family and thinking he was with someone else was tearing her apart. He could see this in her eyes and ran to her kneeling next to her. "Minnie please, nothing happened. I wouldn't let it. It was some sort of magical force. I would never, ever. I love you with all my heart. I would not jeopardize our family for anything."
