I was currently waiting at the inn. It has been a few hours since I departed from the guild hall. Rela still wasn’t back yet, but I didn’t expect her to be. Suddenly I heard someone knock at my door. I wasn’t surprised though because I heard them coming down the hall. I was also expecting this. “You may enter.”

A tall man with a butler outfit entered the room. He had short graying hair and a wrinkled face. His eyes almost looked closed due to the wrinkles. He had a thick gray mustache plastered on his face, and he exuded an aura of kindness. There were no creases in his black butler uniform, and he had on white gloves. He bowed, and following that was an aged voice that matched his appearance. “Pardon my intrusion, Countess Eliah.”

“You can skip the formalities. I am already aware of your position. You are a butler in service of the viscount, no?” It was pretty obvious who this man was, but I had to play my part as well. His dignified face remained, and there was no trace of any surprise. “It is as you have already guessed, Lady Eliah. It was as of today that my master was made aware of your position. It came as quite a shock to Master Belier. The master would like to request 2 things from you.”

“Well, go on. I am listening.” I could already guess what the viscount would ask of me. “Then, the master would like to ask for you to meet with him at his mansion tomorrow. Master Belier was not made aware that someone of your status would visit the city, and he would ask to speak with you.”

“Sure, this won’t be an issue.” With that he had relief visible on his face, and he told me that the meeting would take place when the sun reached its zenith. It was during this that I could hear the sound of hooves approaching the inn, and I wondered just how good Rela’s timing was. It was then that I decided to ask, “and what is the second thing the viscount would ask of me?”

“In truth, the viscount would ask that I be allowed to escort you to a better inn. It would not do for someone of your status to be staying in an inn meant for commoners. My master fears it would be bad for his reputation. The cost would of course be covered by Master Belier. There is already a room prepared for you.”

“That won’t be necessary.” The butler looked like he wanted to protest, but I put my hand up to stop him. “What I mean is that your escort will not be necessary. Someone will be arriving at my room to get me shortly.” As soon as I said that a knock sounded on my door. I called out for the person to enter.

Rela entered the room in her maid attire. Her hair was her natural midnight blue color, and her eyes were the natural dark purple. The only thing about her appearance that was hidden were her fangs. After I learned from Emma that Rela appeared differently in the book, I decided it would be fine for her to have this appearance.

“This is my maid Kinna, and she will accompany me to the inn. You can go tell the viscount what we have discussed, and that I intend to meet him at his mansion.” Following that the butler bowed and left the room. I waited for him to leave the inn before exiting myself.

Outside a lot of people were staring at a large black carriage. Starting from the front of the carriage, there were 2 brown horses pulling it. The driver was a familiar fat and balding man, but now he sported a fancy black suit with a red bow. The side of the carriage had a long black textured snake with its mouth opening towards the front. At the rear of the carriage there was a crest. It was a sword with 2 serpents coiling up the blade, their mouths opening towards the top. The doors on the side of the carriage had gold trimming along the sides and along the large window.

Rela walked up to the carriage and held the door open, “My lady”. As I entered the carriage, I could make out all of the details on the inside. The cushions were crimson red in color, and the carpeted floor was the same color. Except the floor and the ceiling had the same large crest that was on the outside. There were also red curtains that could cover up the windows, and towards the front was a window that would open so one could speak with the driver. After I sat down at the back of the carriage, Rela took her seat opposite me and closed the door.

The carriage promptly started to move towards the wealthier district, and we made our way to the fancier inn. The inn itself only had 2 floors, but it was quite long. I could tell it was fancier than the inn we had previously stayed at as well. There were fancy stone pillars and decorations along the outside. I followed Rela inside of the inn. The inside was just as fancy as the outside, and a large chandelier hung from the ceiling. The receptionist greeted us, and afterwards we were led to our suite on the second floor.

The suite had 3 rooms. There were 2 different bedrooms which had fancy blue carpet. One of the rooms was a smaller room which would be for a servant, and the larger room would be for the main guest. The 3rd room was a large fancy restroom with a bath. I didn’t really care about the suite that much, as I would be leaving soon anyways. Plus it was not like I could sleep. I guess the bed would be comfortable to lay down on though. I was glad when the receptionist finally left Rela and I alone. After soundproofing the room, I was the first to speak.

“Rela, I am amazed you were able to prepare everything so quickly.” It was true, everything Rela did was accomplished with amazing speed and efficiency. She had the timing of Buddha. I mean she even showed up at the perfect timing today. She is the most diligent servant I’ve ever worked with. Technically she is my only actual servant excluding the Blood Puppets. I still wasn’t sure whether she was an idiot or a genius. The only thing I was sure about regarding her was that she was a pervert.

“Master, I am honored to receive your praise. Just this much is a simple thing, but I would do anything for Master Eliah. Especially if you require me to attend to you in bed I would come running.” I didn’t miss her stupid grin, but I decided to ignore it, and my face retained my usual bored expression.

“That is enough joking. We need to discuss my plans for the future and review everything that has happened thus far.” With that her face turned serious, and we began discussing everything that had happened and what will likely happen in the future unless something changes. I didn’t want to miss anything or have something unexpected happen. Something unexpected could happen, but I wanted to limit things that would be bad for my plans from happening if I could help it.

The next day came, and I decided that I would wear something different for the meeting. Over the past few days I had figured out how to reproduce the enchantment which hid my features. I found a black dress with frills that had a free enchantment slot from my inventory and enchanted it. It was only natural to dress up for a meeting with another noble.

Rela and I made our way over to the mayor’s mansion just in time for the meeting. We were greeted by the servants and led to a room with 2 opposing couches and a table in the center. I judged that this was where the viscount would usually have meetings with other nobles. I dismissed Rela, and after the viscount dismissed the butler he closed the door and left the room. I sat down on one of the couches, and then the viscount took his seat on the opposite couch.

“Greetings Viscount Belier, I can understand your confusion at having a Countess by the name of Eliah suddenly show up at your city unannounced, but I can assure you the title is not fake; however, forgive me for having to use a fake name for the time being. I know it must invoke the peoples ire to have a noble using the name of that vile person, but I assure you I have my reasons that I cannot disclose here.”

“Greetings Countess, I never doubted your status as a countess, and the fact that you can pay 200 gold coins for an escort proves it. I am sure you have your reasons for using that vampire’s name, so for the time being I will not ask. My butler had informed me that you would be leaving for the capital soon. I was also made aware that my daughter had been meeting with you in the library. I hope my daughter didn’t make a bad impression with you. She tends to…”

I put my hand up to stop him. I already knew this man detested Emma, and I didn’t care to hear him try to defend his daughter. It would be quite pitiful to listen to. He was already visibly nervous at the mention of his daughter.

“I had quite the favorable impression of your daughter. I found it quite enjoyable to have conversations with her. She is quite adorable, I am sure her mother would have been proud to see her.” I saw his eye twitch at the mention of her mother Anna. It was a reaction that brought a sadistic smile to my face, so I decided to continue and see if I could get another reaction.

“She told me she would be going to the capital to attend the magic academy. Her smile was pure when she was speaking about going to the capital. I wish you could have seen her. In all honesty, I would love for her to accompany me to the capital.” He slammed his hands on the table at the same time as I finished.

“With all due respect, even if you are a countess I cannot very well have my daughter go with a stranger to the capital! Should something bad happen to her, I wouldn’t be able to face my wife.” It is obvious that this is a facade. He doesn’t actually care about his daughter. He is just trying to keep up appearances, so I might as well push the envelope. I don’t think he would require too much persuasion, so I will throw him a bone.

“Viscount Belier, I can assure you that she will be fine. I may not look it, but I can use some high tier magic. The same is true for my maid, and we will be accompanied by a platinum ranked adventurer. Brin the hero of this city has just accepted the request this morning according to my maid. I will be staying in the capital for a while, and you will be able to see her once you come to the capital to enroll her in the academy. Don’t worry, should something happen to your daughter I will personally take responsibility. By my honor as a countess. How about it?”

He looked thoughtful for a moment, but I could tell that secretly he wanted to pawn his daughter off on me. I knew he couldn’t even stand the sight of her. Probably the only thing stopping him was fear that she would do something to me, and it would affect his reputation. That is why I told him that me and my maid could use high tier magic. I also told him I would take responsibility, so there should be no problems. He finally decided to answer me.

“I will think about your proposal, and have a messenger give my answer by tomorrow.” I could tell he was excited to pawn his daughter off, but I wasn’t going to say anything.

After a bit more discussion of things that weren’t related to his daughter the meeting finally ended. One plan I had before was going to be to just turn the viscount himself into a blood puppet to secure a ruling position in this city, but I had decided that was too risky for now. I didn’t know if there would be anyone that the viscount meets within the capital that would be able to tell. There were also other risks associated with doing that.

Rela and I met up and went back to the expensive inn. Talking to the viscount was tiring for me mentally. It was just too boring for me to bear with. Honestly, killing him and then having to deal with the aftermath would have been more fun. Whatever, the next stage is set, and the main event will start once I reach the capital. I am looking forward to it.
