In the Kingdom of Somber,Solus is known to be a trading city. There are lots of imported and exported goods. Due to amicable relations with the elves they deal in magic items of several types from casting items to general use; however the main import and export are slaves. The slaves are almost all beastkin save for a few humans. It is one of the few cities in the entire region that openly trades slaves. It also sports the largest slave warehouse in Somber. Many nobles come for the slave trade from other kingdoms. The only kingdom that doesn’t is Ender, at least openly.

The lord of the city, a fat ugly man is currently in his office doing paperwork in the midst of the night. His name is Marqus Van Solus, and he is a duke within the kingdom. He is doing late night paperwork to catch up to all of the late work. He is generally lazy, so he tends to fall behind on paperwork. The maid of the house, Aria chastised him and told him to do his work properly. Hence why, he is currently filling out request forms. Although, he is simply denying most people’s requests. His territory has been on the decline ever since he took the position of Duke from his late father.

After a while there is a knock on his door. “Is that you Aria?” He asks as he lifts his eyes towards the door to his study. “I told you I would be busy for a while with all of this.”

“Pardon the intrusion.” Aria says as she opens the door to his office. Aria is a wolf beastkin with dark gray hair and black eyes. She was a slave that was sold in this very city to Lord Solus, but she is thankful that Marqus had pulled her out of those terrible living conditions. In truth, Marqus Van Solus has a certain admiration for beastkin. He treats his beastkin servants well, and he has never laid a hand on them. Even if a lot of the people within the city talk about him behind his back there isn’t much they can do when he is their lord.

“So, out with it Aria. It isn’t like you to disturb my work.” Marqus says while smiling at her, but his smile soon vanishes when he sees the look on Aria’s face. She has a concerned look that spells trouble. “You’ll want to read this immediately, my lord.” She passed a document to Marqus.

“What could it be this time? Also, I told you to stop calling me that. Marqus is fine.” He took the letter from Aria and began reading it, but once he finished reading the letter. His eyes filled with dread, and there was a pit in his stomach. “This is indeed terrible if it is true.” He said while looking at Aria.

“I confirmed it myself, my lo-...M-Marqus.” Marqus immediately stood up. “This is urgent. I am sorry for this, but I must ask that you come with me Aria.” She smiled at him, and nodded her head. “I wouldn’t have let you go alone.” I just hope I can survive the encounter. I received word that “Eliah the Immortal” was back, but I had hoped she wouldn’t ever have a reason to visit my city. The lord thought to himself. To figure out how a letter from Eliah herself arrived at the lord's hands we have to go back a few hours from the beginning of the warehouse attack.

[Emma Pov]

My goddess teleported us into the city. I still find it amazing the abilities my goddess possesses. She breaks fundamental rules my teachers of magic had said by just existing, and her magic is so pure in my eyes. I love that beautiful shadow magic that appears just like an abyss. I imagined even the depths of dungeons wouldn’t be so beautiful. Her shadow is like nothing else, and I don’t even have words to describe it.

Once we were in the city our goddess showed us a scene of a slave being dragged by a caller. Emma and Ilya were quick to anger at this scene, but I don’t really even understand what is happening. I have never seen a beastkin before now, but I am confused why people discriminate against them. They don’t even look that different from humans besides their animal features. I wonder if Lucien is a full beastkin? He is just like a wild animal.

My goddess suggested we follow them with Erevyn and Ilya in the lead. She had such a beautiful smile when she said that. I think this version of my goddess is my favorite. Usually I get to do something fun when she smiles like that. Her usual bored expression makes it hard to discern what she is thinking. I am always happy when we get to do something exciting. I have felt the urge to kill something for a while now which has had me restless.

We followed the man down a hallway towards a door. Our Goddess Eliah has us cloaked in a veil of shadow the whole time, so we aren’t discovered by the man. The man arrived at the doorway and started to say something to the man behind the door, but I wasn’t listening to any of that. I could tell that I would finally be able to have some fun. After he went inside Erevyn repeated what the man had said, but the guy behind the door wouldn’t let us in. That was when Ilya spoke up.

“Allow me to take care of this door, my queen.” She looked over to the goddess for confirmation. To that the goddess simply nodded her head. Immediately, Ilya left the shadow and the guy behind the door let out a dumbfounded voice. “Huh? Who are you? Where did you…” He was about to continue, but Ilya quickly adorned claws on her hand, and then she backhanded the door. This caused it to be ripped from its hinges, and fly at the man behind the door. I was once again amazed by the strength of Ilya.

From how far the door flew I knew that the man had died on impact. Then the goddess released the veil of shadow surrounding us, and we all entered the large warehouse. Inside there were rows upon rows of cages filled with beastkin. I wasn’t able to observe the sight for too long, as I heard a loud ringing sound throughout the warehouse. Someone had set up an alarm in here. I knew that there were magic tools to do this, so I told my goddess.

“Someone set up an alarm. This whole warehouse will become a playground.” I said to my goddess trying and failing to hold in my smile. She then summoned Lucien from the purple portal. He instantly kneeled before her greatness, and then he said. “What are your orders, my lady?”

“Take care of any stragglers amongst the guards that run away. It is finally time for us to have some fun. Emma, you can take care of that one.” She said while pointing at the guy that we followed here. He was just staring at our group with a terrified expression which brought me joy. I knew that this man would be fun to play with!

He took off running immediately as the guards began their attack. Ilya and Rela began the assault from our side. Ilya used violent wind magic which tore through most of the guards while Rela pulled twin daggers from the self-inflicted wound on her hand. Rela then began to run at the guards that had survived the initial wind magic. My goddess looked over to me as I began to get restless.

“Well what are you waiting for? If you wait too long that man will escape. You don’t have to get scared, I will cover you.” Scared? I was practically about to burst with excitement, and as soon as she said that I took off running at the man that we had stalked here. I followed him while guards tried to lunge at me, but as they did tendrils of shadow pierced their throats. I was so happy to be able to do this with my goddess, and any time the guards that got in my way were torn apart. I got even more excited. I had never felt this much joy, and I was so thankful towards my goddess.

I kept chasing the terrified man while laughing like the children I remember having fun playing while I was in Ender. This must be what it’s like to truly have fun for those other kids. I thought to myself before summoning an ice shard in my hands. I was having fun, but the man was about to reach an exit, and I didn’t want that. So I launched the ice shard I had summoned through his chest. As he fell to the floor. I was mesmerized by the scene of his life finally coming to a close. I bent over next to him and poked him several times, but when he didn’t move after the 10th time of poking him, I giggled in joy. I was pulled from my stupor by my goddess tapping on my shoulder. The next thing I felt was embarrassment as my cheeks turned crimson. At least my cheeks might match the goddess’s eyes.

“I-I am sorry, m-my g-goddess. I w-was just having so much fun!” I managed to stammer out, but she just smiled at me. Then she patted my head which brought me even more joy than the previous killing. “I don’t mind Emma; in fact, I am happy you were able to enjoy yourself, but you mustn't go overboard. You should be more aware of your surroundings.”

As she said that I looked around. What I saw was amazing. All of the guards in the warehouse were dead. I admit I was a little jealous that they got to have even more fun, but that just means that I need to get stronger to better serve my goddess.

All of the goddess’s subordinates, including myself, kneeled before her greatness. “Now that we have taken care of this. I will need to prepare a letter to the lord of this city. The cries of these beastkin are starting to grate on my ears.”
