“Let me take care of them, my goddess! Please, I beg of you!” The relieved faces of the captors below me filled me with more anger. I wanted nothing more than to sever the two people’s heads from their bodies at this very moment. The way they smirked when Emma stopped me from killing them was grating on my very soul. ‘Just kill them. You don’t need to listen to the words of your servant.’ I took deep breaths in and out. I would at least hear Emma out. Plus, it looked like she was unharmed thus far except for being blown away by the man that was already dead and headless.
“I haven’t been able to do a single thing for you! At least allow me this opportunity!” She had an earnest look on her face. “Will you listen to her request?” The woman asked, causing me to glare at her. “Shut, your filthy mouth! Otherwise, you might end up like your friend. You don’t seem to understand the position you are in. You may not speak unless I tell you to! You are lucky Emma is unharmed.” I pointed my sword at her causing her to cower in her position.
I landed on the ground next to Emma. As she looked up at me I patted her head. Then I hugged her small figure. As I patted her little head, she smiled at me and returned the hug. “You don’t need to prove anything to me Emma. If you would allow me, I will sever their heads right now.” I heard audible gulps coming from the captors before Emma responded.
“No, this is something I need to do.” She separated from the hug before she continued. “I have never been able to be of use to you. Please, I know I can do this! I will not fall even further behind Rela and Ilya! I will be of use to you.” I didn’t know how to respond to her earnest expression. I knew that if I took this from her. She would resent me for it. A sick part of me wanted to just watch her do it as well. “Please…”
“Very well…” I sighed. “I will not fail you, my goddess!” She clenched her little hand into a fist. “I see… I will help you if you only call out to me.”
“No! That will defeat my entire purpose. That will ruin my resolve.” I nodded my head. “I understand. I promise I won’t interfere.” Of course I was lying, and I felt bad when she smiled at me. If she was in danger I wouldn’t hesitate to intervene, but my words caused the other two people to sigh in relief. “Do you have something to say?” I looked at them with disgust.
“Will you truly not intervene?” The bowman. His bow was shattered on the ground, and I didn’t see another weapon on him. “It is as I just said. Did you hear the words that came out of my mouth? Or are your ears just for decoration?” The bastard actually smiled at me; disgusting. “How shall we proceed, your greatness?”
“Hmm, let's see…” I picked up a stone from the ground. “You will fight as this stone hits the ground.” The woman nodded and readied her daggers. She also had a bright smile as she looked over at Emma. Emma returned her smile with a smirk as I threw the stone into the air. As the stone landed the fight ensued. The bowman immediately took off running away.
He ran towards the forest from the plains as Emma summoned two ice picks to meet the daggers that descended upon her. She encased herself in a thin layer of ice. The woman’s daggers met with the ice picks and the difference in strength was apparent as Emma was knocked to the ground.
The woman brought the daggers down towards Emma’s downed self, but when the daggers tried to pierce Emma’s body they were repelled by the ice barrier on her body. Emma looked up and smirked as the daggers bounced off her body causing her attacker to stagger. Her little hand shot up with an ice pick in it towards the attacker's arm, but her attacker recovered in that instant. She dropped the dagger in that arm and caught Emma by her wrist.
It was clear that the woman was way more experienced as she twisted Emma’s wrist causing her to drop the ice pick in her hand. “Even if you cover yourself in a barrier I can still do this.” The woman said as she picked her up by the arm and flung Emma into the air. She went flying to a height that was above even the city walls. I was surprised she was strong enough for such a feat. Even if Emma was light it was still difficult to toss even a child that high. The woman looked at me and smirked. “Now what?” She said with a triumphant look on her face. I smiled as I felt Emma’s magic power surge. My smile caused the woman to look up, but as she did a shard of ice almost met her face.

She blocked the shard with her dagger before looking for her attacker in the sky. Suddenly the woman started to cough up blood as a giant spike of ice pierced her chest from behind. “H-how?”
“You let your guard down because you saw her as a little girl.” I answered her question. “I know your type. You are an assassin. It is kind of ironic that you would die from being stabbed from behind.” I watched as the woman smiled after the ice spike disappeared. Then it occurred to me that she knew.
“Why!?” I yelled at the woman as she fell face first into the dirt. She knew the whole time that what she was seeing was an illusion. She knew the whole time as Emma created an ice illusion of herself as her real self snuck up on her. She knew that she would die, and she just let it happen. Why? The more I looked at her the more I was filled with disgust as she slowly died.
Then Emma took off running to pursue the man who had fled. I followed her, but the only thing on my mind was the self satisfied smile of the woman who had died to Emma. That bitch was content with her death. I don’t think Emma noticed what that woman had done if her smile was anything to go by. With the blood of that woman splattered on her face Emma was smiling.
I myself was going insane. What the hell did I witness? Why did that woman allow this to happen? As I thought about it more I realized the reason. The woman had to know of my intent to help Emma. It was all out of pettiness what that woman did. She wanted me to suffer as she essentially killed herself. She didn’t want to give me the satisfaction of watching something legitimate take her life.
With that realization, I realized something else. That woman was more insane than I am. Then I was flooded with anger. I wanted to resurrect that woman just to make her suffer. I hated that someone thought they pulled one over me as they died a meaningless death. There was absolutely zero meaning in what that woman had done. She did it just to spite me.
As I returned to reality Emma was looking at me with worry on her face from my angered expression undoubtedly. I remembered we were chasing the bowman, but after we finally reached a part of the forest his magical signature just vanished.
“Emma, stop. We don’t need to chase him any longer.” As we turned a bend I saw the body of the man we were pursuing, with my enhanced eyesight far away. Well, I knew it was a fake. It was a body that appeared to be ravaged by monsters wearing the same clothes as that man.
“What are you saying goddess? I have to…” I cut her off by pointing at the body of the man. When we walked closer I could see that the face of the body was disfigured. There were also chunks taken out from several parts of the body. It was clear that the guy we were tracking had made it look like he was mauled to death. I could tell, however, that this wasn’t the same person. I think Emma could tell as well. The man didn’t even have the same hair color after all, and I could sense no monsters near here. There wasn’t even any evidence that a monster had been here; Nonetheless, Emma’s final captor was gone without a trace
