My father is a viscount, and the mayor of the city of Arbuk. I am pretty sure my father hates me. He looks at me as if I am a monster. This all started when I turned 4 years old. I was never really interested in other children. One night when I was 4 my parents were sleeping and I found my way into fathers study. There was a book on the shelf titled “Ice Witch Neiva”, and I felt compelled to read it.

I couldn’t make out all of the difficult words, but I could tell that the witch was hated. She had killed a lot of people with her ice magic, but I didn’t understand what was so bad about that. When I asked father why it was bad he scolded me for entering his study, but then he told me that it was bad to take the life of another human being in cold blood. I couldn’t really understand what he meant by “cold blood”, so I decided to ask if it was okay to kill someone not in “cold blood”. He told me it’s better if humans don’t kill each other at all, so I decided to just accept it.

I kept sneaking into his study to read about Neiva, but the more I read about her the more I thought she was amazing. I started to read another book about ice magic in the hopes that I could also use it. It took weeks of me doing trial and error, but eventually I was able to produce a ball of ice. I eventually showed my father and mother. My mother was overjoyed and started hugging me while my father looked disappointed. I decided I would impress my father with something else.

When I was playing in the yard of the mansion one day I spotted a lizard in the grass. Thinking this would be a perfect surprise for father I froze the lizard right there and brought it to him. I was surprised when he yelled at me because I thought it was only bad to kill humans. He told me that I shouldn’t needlessly kill animals unless they are harmful, but I just didn’t understand.

That night I listened in on a conversation between my mother and father through the door of their bedroom. I heard my mother speak to my father. “Dear, I think you are being too harsh, she is just a child.” My father began to reply to her. “Anna, you should have seen the look in her eyes. I don’t think she has the same thoughts as a normal child. She asked me about killing humans before. Even if she was curious because of the book, the way she talks about it is abnormal. We should have someone come to check up on her.”

Following that a doctor came to speak to me. They couldn’t find anything wrong with me, and they suggested that maybe there should be an animal that I could interact with. The doctor said that if I interacted with a tame animal enough I could learn the proper way. My mother was relieved that they found nothing wrong with me, but my father wouldn’t even look at me.

After that my mother brought a white bunny into the house, and taught me how to feed her. I did enjoy playing with the bunny, and my father started to speak to me again. My mother told him “see, dear, she just needed an animal friend to get along with.”

I would still sneak into his study at night, and one night I found a book about an immortal vampire named “Eliah”. According to the book everyone in the world found her vile, but I thought everything she did was amazing. She had killed some people and turned them into her subordinates which I thought was really great.

Soon after turning 5 I got an idea that I would turn my bunny into a subordinate just like Eliah did. I repeatedly stabbed the bunny in the neck with a small shard of ice until she died, but after she died no matter what I did the bunny wouldn’t move. When my mom came into the room she was angry, and she slapped me in the face. I had never been hit before, but I knew that I didn’t like it. I don’t know why my mom would hit me, but I was angry.

After a week passed my father went to the capital for business, and only me, my mother and the maid were in the mansion. I was still mad at my mother for hitting me, so one night when she was about to head down the stairs I ran up from behind her and pushed her back. As she rolled down the stairs I heard a few cracking sounds, and when she hit the bottom I began to see blood pouring from her head. I found the sight amazing, and I watched the life slowly leave her body. It was then when I heard a loud shriek at the bottom of the stairs.

“My lady! My lady!” The maid started crying and clutching my mothers head in her arms when she looked up at me. There was a look of extreme hatred in her eyes, and she yelled at me. “What have you done!? Why would you do such a terrible thing!? Just what have you done!?” I didn’t respond, and instead I just rapidly shook my head and covered my ears with both hands. I ran straight to my room and closed the door. I sat down with my back to the door and started crying. “I just don’t understand. Why do they all hate me?”

The death of my mother was ruled as an accident, but ever since that day my father would never even be in the same room as me. When he talked to the butler about me when I was listening he only ever called me a monster. After that I would have instructors come and teach me about noble etiquette amongst other things. When I was 2 months away from my 10th birthday my father finally spoke to me again for the first time in years.

“I will be taking you to the capital in 2 months to enroll you in the magic academy, as it is my duty. It would behoove you to act like a human being while you are there. You may be a monster straight from hell, but I am sure you can understand my reasoning.” He had a sour look on his face while he was speaking to me.

“Yes, father, I understand.” I was really excited to be able to go to a place where I might be able to learn more about Eliah, but I didn’t let it show on my face. “Don’t call me that! You are not my daughter! If it wasn’t for you Anna would still be here!” After he yelled at me he smacked me in the face, and I fell to the floor. I couldn’t be angry though, especially when I just learned amazing news.

It was soon after that when I met Eliah at the library. I had been going to the library to learn the necessary material before I would go to the academy. When I first looked at her I noticed she was really beautiful. Probably even more beautiful than my late mother. I noticed immediately based on her actions that she was similar to me. Her eyes seemed cold, and she seemed bored with everything. I just had to talk to her!

Sadly I didn’t get to speak to her much on the first day, but I was really glad when she said she would be my friend. Luckily she came back again the next day. I would be sad if I didn’t get to see her again when I went to the capital, but luckily she said she would also be in the capital. She asked me a bunch of questions, and I didn’t miss the twisted smile on her face. I got pretty good at distinguishing between different expressions, and while her smile might fool other people, it didn’t fool me. I was so glad that I got to meet such an amazing person, and her name was even the same as the person I wanted to meet the most!
