Chapter 43 Returning to Mingde Street

After Leo shouted, the hotel fell into silence. The hotel owner finally asked after some time, “When you left, there were two of you, why did you come back with three?”

From the sound of it, the hotel owner had checked the camera footage. Thus, Leo explained, “The third person is a friend of mine and he sprained his leg. It’s getting late so he can’t go back today. So he prepared to stay with me for the night.”

“Let him stand in front of the entrance and look at the camera on top of the signboard. I want to have a look at his face.”

Leo had no choice and instructed Ol’ Tom to obediently do so.

Ol’ Tom was afraid the hotel owner would shoot him through the wooden door. However, he was even more afraid Leo would just beat him to death if he did not do as he was told.

Hence, Ol’ Tom fearfully stood at the hotel door and raised his head to look at the camera. The hotel fell silent again and the hotel owner did not speak for a long time. The longer the hotel owner did not speak, the more terrified Ol’ Tom was. His body even began trembling.

Just as Leo could not hold back and wanted to let Bucky smash the door, the hotel suddenly lit up. Next, the door was opened slightly and the owner whispered, “I thought both of you died outside! Since you are still alive, then hurry up and enter.”

The three of them entered one by one followed by the hotel owner shutting the door. After he locked the door, he turned around and said, “The new guy cannot stay in the same room. You must get another single room for twenty dollars.”

Leo took out two twenty-dollar notes and placed them in the owner’s hand. “He also did not have any identification so I know that the price is double. It’s already so late, sorry to bother you.”

However, the owner pulled a piece of the notes and returned it back to Leo while saying, “He is Ol’ Tom, I know him. So the price is not double, twenty is enough.”

Ol’ Tom asked the hotel owner in surprise, “How do you know me?”

“Ten years ago, when I smuggled into New York, I also looked for you to make an identification. I thought I would have a good life here, but who would’ve guessed I ended up in Hell’s Kitchen for a decade.”

The hotel owner faintly said, then stopped continuing and changed the conversion. “It’s getting late, you should sleep early. Here’s the 205 key, single room, just across the 203.”

The hotel owner was going to leave after saying it. Leo just realized he almost forgot the business and immediately responded. He stopped the owner and asked, “Boss, our car parked at the entrance was pried open by someone and the stuff inside was stolen. Since you have a security camera, I wanted to check the footage and see who stole our stuff.”

“What’s the use of knowing who stole it? Do you dare to go back in the middle of the night to get it back? Do you want to die?”

“These two brothers are not ordinary people. Not to mention getting the stuff back, it won’t be weird if they can double the amount of value of the stuff.”

Ol’ Tom immediately answered as he thought he was flattering. However, he was just crazily digging a pit for himself unknowingly.

Leo yanked Ol’ Tom’s head and shooed him aside. Ol’ Tom awkwardly smiled but did not dare to be angry or speak.

The hotel owner could not help but speculate in his heart where these two fresh-faced tenants were from when he saw Hell’s Kitchen’s rather famous Ol’ Tom being respectful to Leo.

Leo turned to the hotel owner and said, “Boss, you just have to let us see the footage for a bit. You don’t have to worry about the others. I ensure there won’t be any trouble for you.”

The hotel owner remained silent while frowning as if hesitating. Leo pulled a stack of cash from his wallet and placed it in front of the hotel owner.

“Boss, you can be counted as a businessman since you opened a hotel. Then I’ll use this money to buy the information from you. This money is quite a sum, it should be enough to buy someone’s life in Hell’s Kitchen, right?!” Leo said in a slightly cold tone.

The hotel owner understood Leo’s underlying threat and dared not to reject him. In comparison to the ordinary gang member, the hotel owner felt that the man in front of him whom he was unsure was good or evil was more terrifying.

He did not accept all the money. He cautiously took a piece of brand new one hundred notes from the topmost of the stack of money and unhappily said, “This money is enough. My information is not that valuable and does not cost a single person’s life.”

Afterward, he took Leo behind the counter and prepared to show the surveillance video of the last few hours of the night.

……

On the tube television showed an image of a black pick-up with static. Soon, two sneaky-looking males in casual clothing left the car.

The two of them circled the car Leo parked in front of the hotel. Then, they pulled out tools and pried Leo’s car open. They emptied it of all its contents and finally drove off in it.

The time on the footage showed the stealing happened half an hour before Leo returned. So it was still recent.

“Ol’ Tom, do you recognize these two?”

“Hm… I know, I know them. These two people, one is called Monkey and another is called Crow. T-they’re Black Bear Gang’s people”

“Oh?! Does that mean you are familiar with the two of them?”

Ol’ Tom hurriedly waved his hand and said, “No… I’m not familiar with them. I just know them, I’ve no relationship with them.”

“Then do you know where they usually go to sell the stolen goods when they steal them?”

“The Black Bear Gang has very strict rules. So they don’t dare to sell things privately by themself. Thus, every stolen item will be handed to Black Bear himself for him to sort it out…”

Hence, ten minutes later, Leo and Bucky returned to Mingde Street again.

Ol’ Tom was left by Leo in the Harvest Hotel. Bucky had a friendly chat with him before leaving, so Ol’ Tom would not dare to run around at night.

Mingde Street was not as bustling as it was an hour ago. Most of the bars had closed their doors and in the middle of the street were a full ten police cars lined up.

Leo and Bucky saw there were many police officers around so they quietly hid in the alley and observed. They did not act rashly.

The police seemed to have arrived here for a while. There were several body bags placed in front of the entrance of Pure Love Bar right now. A few police officers were working in pairs to move the bodies to the body truck.

The truck had been loaded with several bodies. Leo counted from afar, with a conservative estimate, that at least twenty people died in this shootout.

A large number of police officers came out of the Nightmare Bar all of a sudden while detaining more than thirty people whose hands were handcuffed behind. There were males and females and Leo was unsure whether they were people from Black Bear Gang or Poison Wolf Gang.

These prisoners were pressed into the police car one by one. The police removed the cordon tape and were preparing to leave the scene.

Leo wanted to avoid unnecessary troubles, so he waited with Bucky patiently. When the police cars disappeared from the street, the two of them came out of the alley.

The front of the Pure Love Bar was a mess. The main door was densely covered with bullet holes. The blood inside the house had not yet dried and left behind several human-shaped bloodstains.

Everyone in the bar seemed to have escaped, it was empty and the surroundings were silent. The miserable white lighting was left on highlighting the depression and sadness of the place.

Bucky scanned the entire first floor and asked, “Leo, what now? It looks like everyone from Black Bear Gang and Poison Wolf Gang are gone!”

Leo was also annoyed. Was it possible that this night was a wasted trip? After a night of delay, it was unknown where the Black Bear Gang would sell their stuff to!

Leo for a moment was unsure what to do. All of a sudden, the second floor had some movements. Leo could vaguely hear someone talking.
