" Then let's hope they are just here to eat," Becca said and hung up then looked at Raquel whose hands were slightly trembling on the table.

" So what are we going to do about them?" The manager asked in a whisper and Becca sighed.

" We do nothing. If they just want to eat, that's what they will do. When they are done, they will leave." She answered, trying to act boldly.

" But the other customers... They are scared of those men." The manager stammered.

" Then serve them pronto, so we can move them along."

Becca understood that Leo was worried and wanted her to be safe but she didn't always need to be protected. She wasn't a damn damsel in distress. No, she was the owner of this restaurant and she didn't want to flee the place on her own and leave Raquel or even the other people in there.

Then the memory of the night she was attacked flashed through her mind but she quickly shoved it aside. This wasn't the time to cower in fear or shudder.

Becca dismissed the manager and held Raquel's shaky hand in hers with a smile slanting her lips.

" I have never seen you so uneasy about something like this before." Becca joked, hoping to ease Raquel's nerves a little.

" I don't know, Becca. I have a bad feeling about all this." Raquel shivered as she caught one of the men staring at their table, at Becca's back, and quickly clasped her mouth shut, afraid that they might hear her.

A few minutes passed and people started leaving, Scared. Even though no other scary men came, the ones already in the restaurant didn't leave either. They stayed and Becca's nerves relaxed a bit when she saw them signaling a waitress. They were going to order.

Thank God.

The waitress scurried towards the men to take their orders. Taking out her pen and notepad, she swallowed when she caught sight of the gun on the table, then glanced at Becca who gave her an encouraging smile.

Guns.

Who the hell brings guns to a fucking diner? Was the waitress exact thought as she tried not to fidget in front of them. She took their orders and scuttled away, almost like they were going to bite her if she stayed any longer.

Time lazily crept by and more customers left. After a few more minutes, the three were done with their food and packaging up.

Becca watched them stand, ready to leave, and breathed out a sigh of relief but the relaxed feeling didn't last more than a second when the door opened.

She turned to look at Martino who was already on his feet then at the door and her heart stopped when she saw Leo along with some other men walking into the place with deadly looks on their faces.

Leo locked eyes with her from where she sat, his jaw tight, and before she could register what was going on, she heard the sound of guns being uncocked.

Dread swelled in Becca's gut as she looked towards the men, they were all drawn and ready.

Panic ensued as a gunshot bellowed, followed by another and another, rattling in Becca's bones.

Everything happened so fast. More gunshots rang. And the next thing she felt was someone shoving her to the ground as glasses smashed around her and she shut her eyes.

Nausea foamed in her throat but she managed to swallow it down. She then felt something wet dripping on her face and someone's arms tightening around her.

Becca's eyes shot open but the first thing she caught sight of was the deep cut on the person's shoulder that was directly shielding her then she looked at his face.

" Leo." Becca's voice came out barely a whisper as she saw who was on her, shielding her. Her throat went dry.

" Stay down." He ordered and she nodded, curling into a ball as she heard shouts and screams, squeezing her eyes shut again. The rampant beating of her heart muted the sound leaving the roaring guns.

The noise soon died down, replaced by an eerie silence, and slowly, the weight of Leo's body was lifted off her.

Once the heat cleared, Leo got off and shook Becca lightly.

" My love, it's all over now." He whispered and she opened her eyes, her lips parted to speak but froze when she remembered she was with Raquel.

" What's wrong?" Leo asked, seeing the horrid look on Becca's face.

" Raquel. Where is Raquel?" Becca asked desperately, worried. Scared and Leo just stared at her. " Leo, what happened to the woman I was here with?"

No answer. Leo stayed quiet and Becca got fed up with asking and forced her body to stand, staggering away despite hearing Leo's calls.

She kept going, barely making it seven steps away from where she got up from and froze when she saw Raquel on the floor, still.

Becca held her breath, trying to pacify her surging lungs. Her knees buckled beneath her, no longer governed by her own will, and she fell on the floor, crawling next to Raquel's body.

" Raquel. Raquel!" Becca shook Raquel's body but got no response.

Becca's eyes glistened with tears as she kept shaking Raquel, calling out her name but still got no response.

Her eyes flickered to Raquel's neck and gasped when she saw the bullet wound there and the blood saturating her clothes. Becca pushed her hand on the wound but there was no flinch or gasp from Raquel.

Raquel was dead.

" No. No. NO!" Becca shook Raquel some more, faster. " Wake up, Raquel. Please. Open your eyes, you will be alright."

Tears burnt Becca's eyes as she pressed her ear against Raquel's chest, trying to hear her heartbeat. Begging to hear her heart beat but there was nothing. Raquel's body went limp.

The restaurant no longer looked like the one Leo bought for her, no. It was a bloodbath.

The remaining survivors were now cowering under the tables. They were the fortunate ones while those that weren't so lucky were laying on the floor just like Raquel, in a pool of their own blood.

This shouldn't have happened. None of this should have happened. The scary guys were already leaving then why—

Becca's sobbed died in her throat when she felt someone gently squeeze her shoulder.

" My love," Leo called out softly. " She is gone. You need to let her go."

Every fraction in Becca stopped, her mind became empty in an instant. Time seemed to be at a standstill.

" She needs a doctor."

A teardrop rolled down Becca's cheek and plopped down on Raquel's face.

" Becca, she is dead." Leo's words sent chills through her, leaving a trail of Ice in her veins.

Becca shook her head stubbornly, refusing to believe it. " No. Go get an ambulance."

Martino rushed to where they were. " Boss, we need to leave now."

Leo didn't tear his gaze away from Becca and he squatted down next to her.

" My love." He called out, touching her arm but she didn't move and just kept holding Raquel's lifeless body. "Becca, look at me."

" Boss, we have to leave now." Martino reminded and Leo shot him a sharp glare then his eyes softened as he looked at Becca again, moving closer to her.

" She needs an ambulance." Becca pushed his hand off her and stared him straight in the eyes. " Go get her one."

Leo let out a defeated sigh, blazing pain corroding his soul just by seeing Becca in that state." I'm sorry about this."

Before she realized what was going on, a strong arm covered her mouth. She squirmed and jerked, elbowing him in the ribs but the more she fought, the more she felt her consciousness slipping and everything soon went dark.

" You did what you had to do, boss," Martino said and patted Leo on the shoulder.

Apart from being a bodyguard, Martino was also one of Leo's closest men, the most trustworthy and that was why Leo gave him the duty of guarding Becca.

Leo ignored him and stared at the woman on his lap. She must have been petrified, not thinking about what she was doing. Her friend just got died, a bullet to the neck in a crossfire, and she must have been left broken after witnessing such a thing. Leo understood her, he always understood.

Things that happened there today weren't easy, not for weak hearts but it was an everyday thing for him. It was his normal life.

Death. Killing. Blood. They were everywhere in his life and he considered them a norm.

Raphael's men weren't supposed to be here, this was Leo territory. They weren't here to just eat either. No, they were here to stir up trouble.

Like father like son, Raphael burned down another warehouse belonging to Leo, seeking vengeance. Fueling the acrimony between both families even more. And though his target here wasn't Becca, he still sent his men to create a ruckus. To end some innocent people's lives, to turn Leo's turf into a bloody wasteland.

That was why Leo rushed here as soon as he got the call from Martino, driving on the road like a mad man.

" Compensate the families of every innocent person that died here," Leo ordered Martino, lifting Becca in his arms.

When Leo got there and saw the loaded guns in the hands of Raphael's men, he acted on instinct and drew his own weapon, firing it as he pushed Becca to the floor. He wouldn't forgive himself if anything happened to her. She was his entire life.

Holding Becca gently in his arms, Leo walked out of the restaurant— it didn't even look like one anymore— and gently laid her down in the backseat of his car.

He got on the driver's seat, glancing back at her as he started the car and drove home.. Knowing that with what just happened, he wouldn't be able to keep the truth away from her anymore.
