" We have a problem." Martino whispered and Leo shot him a side glance, hoping it wasn't in any way connected to that Dante hound that kept nipping at his ankles. Their last confrontation was the reason he was even in that hospital bed in the first place.

Leo wasn't the type of person who entertained prolonged matters. Elongated issues bore him. And when things get boring, it pisses Leo the hell off. He had to get rid of the problem and the method he uses depends solely on what mood he is in.

" What is it this time?" Leo whispered back and didn't miss the way Becca's eyes narrowed at him.

" Fabio, Boss."

" What about him?"

" He revolted as well and joined Raphael's side."

" Quel bastardo. Dopo tutto quello che ho fatto per lui."

Anger murked Leo's face. If he was to make a list of ungrateful people in his life, then Fabio would be the first name. At the slight chance of getting more wealth and power, they all turn into rabid dogs.

This wasn't a matter of getting revenge for Lazzerro's dead anymore, it was now about overthrowing the king. But then again, this was a good thing. It meant more people for Leo to slaughter.

" What are you going to do about this when you are stuck here?" Martino asked. The situation wasn't looking too good for Leo. After Raphael bravely yet stupidly went against Leo, the action alone somehow motivated other minor threats to attack as well.

Leo stared at Becca— she had that suspicious look on her face but still clueless about the conversation he was having— and he smiled before returning his attention to Martino.

" Bruciarli tutti."

Becca ended up shooing Martino away so Leo would get some rest but not before scolding him first. He was barely recovered, paralyzed even but yet here he is discussing work-related matters with his bodyguard.

She snorted as she shuffled over to the couch in the room, and plunged her ass on it, ignoring how Leo's eyes followed every single movement of her body. After being trapped in a never-ending sea of terror— nightmares— for what felt like an eternity, knowing that Becca stayed beside him through it all warmed his heart. Her mere presence gave him a sense of closure despite the horrible things that were happening to him.

His body ached to be next to her, to feel the softness of her skin with his hands. To go to her on the couch but then again, he couldn't. He was crippled.

Well, the right word to describe it was paralyzed but Leo honestly didn't see a difference between the two. His legs were still— for the meantime— useless. The thought only smeared his heart with hate. He should have assembled the Dantes that actively acted as a thorn in his flesh and slaughtered them all at once. At least then the problem would be done for good and wouldn't have led to this.

Leo's lips slanted as he watched her, the smile forming on his face completely contrasting with the contempt smoldering his soul.

" Come here, my love." He said, disregarding the stiffness of his body as strived to lift his right hand and pat the space beside him on the bed. Becca stood up from where she sat and went to him, sitting on the exact spot he patted. Even after doing so, Leo still couldn't keep his eyes to himself. He worshiped her too much to look away. His smile faded when he noticed the dark circles under her eyes.

Was she tired? Hadn't she been sleeping?

His answer came when she let out a yawn, her eyes looking more exhausted by the min, it crushed him.

" When was the last time you got a good night's rest?" Leo asked, staring at her with worried eyes and she let out another yawn before smiling at him.

" Of course, I have gotten some rest. " Becca lied. She hadn't slept past an hour since Leo got shot. She said she did so he wouldn't worry. Only he didn't believe her. She wasn't a good liar anyway.

With the way his body felt at the moment, he knew it would be a struggle but he didn't care. He chose to do it anyway. He hoisted his arm and wrapped it around Becca, gently leaning her body down on the bed.

" What are you-"

" Shhh. Rest." He hushed her, laying her next to his stiff body and all she could do was stare. Leo was the one who got shot, stayed in a coma for five days and just found out that he wouldn't be able to use his legs for some time but yet all he seemed to care about was if she rested or not.

" How could you be like this? So gentle?"

His behavior eluded her. She didn't even know why his gestures still left her awestruck. Right from the start, all he had done was be kind and thoughtful towards her, making her heart swell. At one point, Becca was convinced she couldn't possibly fall any harder for Leo but here he was, proving her wrong.

Leo's smile rekindled as her soft voice streamed into his ears. " To be honest, you are the first person to ever describe me as gentle in a long time."

Becca smiled as well, the contagious one on Leo's lips compelling her to do so.

" And why is that?" She asked as she laid on her side, unable to look away from his face. Just like Leo, even she couldn't seem to get enough of him.

" Because I'm usually not. But with you, being gentle comes naturally."

A blush plodded onto her cheeks, heating them up as she interlocked Leo's fingers with hers. A peaceful silence reigned between them afterward and slowly, Becca's eyelids drooped, lolling her head on Leo's shoulders then fell asleep.

He relished the sensation of her soft breaths caressing his skin. She stayed by his side while he slept and he wanted to do the same. It wasn't like he could move anyway, not with how lifeless his legs felt at the moment. Lifeless, just like the way Dominic rendered his soul in the past.

A monster. A beast. A creature from hell. Once a major peril on Leo's life but now reduced to a shadow, an opaque silhouette lurking in his head— another tool his twisted brain used to torment him. To crush him. To bring him to his knees.

In his dreams— memories— grotesque visions— he didn't even know what to call them anymore—he was at hard rock bottom. Possibly his lowest state. Any lower and he would have been in his grave.

Leo was things he wished he wasn't in that situation. Scared. Weak. A child— a fucking child but it didn't stop that monster from venting his demonized quirks on him. Hurting him. Thinking about it sent horrid chills skidding down Leo's back and the only thing that kept him calm and sane was the woman sleeping soundly next to him. His Becca.

He stared down at her face. She was relaxed, pale pink blush tainted her soft cheeks and her brilliant green eyes now shut as she rested.

She looked stunning even while she slept, it was why Leo always couldn't help staring. Her chest rose and fell with everything soft breath she took, delicate and innocent. Utterly calm.

He would make sure it lasts forever. Her love for him, he would make it last forever.

The rest of the days spent at the hospital went a lot faster with Leo awake. Him now fully conscious brought a sense of relief and calmness in her sea of worries. The aching in her heart numbed, apparently only stimulating during his orthopedic therapy sessions. A striking reminder of Leo's temporary disability. Though she was the one who insisted on starting his paralysis treatment immediately, it still didn't stop the pang from jolting through her when she watched Leo unable to move his own legs. Painful— it was what it was for the both of them.

Leo went from being an unfathomable mob boss—scarier that death— to not being able to stand on his two feet. Literally.

He was a mess. It was the fear of upsetting Becca that kept Leo laying on that bed, still, while the doctor did all sorts of things with his legs. Eventually, the pain in Becca's eyes while she monitored Leo's sessions became too much for him to bear. He couldn't take it. Sadness. Pain. He hated that those were the emotions engulfing her when she remembered his condition. The heart wrecking tone of her voice was so agonizing torturous, Leo did his best to make her stop watching his treatment sessions. He told her he was fine and that she could go to work but being a worrywart herself, Becca hesitated a bit, unyielding to the idea of leaving him on his own, but left after further prodding was initiated on her.

Just thirty minutes after Becca's departure from the hospital, Johnny dropped by. To visit. A gray three-piece suit tailored just for him and a long coat draped over shoulders, brown hair combed back and an insolent glint in his eyes as he ambled into Leo's room.

Johnny smirked. " Something actually made you come to the hospital. I thought I would never see the day."

The sight before him was both baffling and amusing at the same time. It usually took same sense to be bashed into Leo's head before he ever considered going to the hospital.

" I'm not on my deathbed so wipe that smug look off your face." Leo snorted and Johnny slipped his hands into his pockets.

" I spoke to Martino a couple of minutes ago. He told me about your legs." Johnny said, resisting the urge to demand why he wasn't informed earlier. " You look like you are taking it well. Better than I imagined"

Leo's brow crumpled but not in confusion. " What does that supposed to mean?"

" It means I expected you to be thrashing yourself across the room in rage but laying calmly on a sickbed."

" I guess I'm different now." Leo said and Johnny scoffed.

" Oh please, you set two of Raphael's men on fire and fed the other one to your hounds." Johnny took a step closer. " You will never change."

Leo gave Johnny a long, hard look before forcing out a chuckle.

" Maybe I never will but it doesn't matter though. I have everything I have ever wanted. Power. Money. Strength.." And Becca.
