Xinya hurried out the door and got on the luxury hovercar parked outside. It stood out in her neighbourhood.
Patriarch Han turned to assess her.
Out of her gorgeous evening dress, her clothes were ordinary, her long hair tied casually, and her face was free of makeup. Although her clothes weren't bad, they were clearly old. At a glance, one could tell that she was a person who lived in poverty, for whom every penny had to be carefully accounted for. It was very different from when she had not yet left her parents house, when she had dressed beautifully every day and no lines of worry framed her eyes.
"Cousin," Xinya greeted him submissively before sitting, her head lowered slightly.
Patriarch Han turned on his neural link and sent her a folder of documents. "What you wanted."
The transfer to Dongchen had been completed. All Tang Ke's expenses from now until twelfth grade had been paid, including food, clothing, housing and transportation to school. Ten years worth of nutrient solution had also been reserved under his name. Xinya had received everything she had asked for.
She was visibly relieved. Even her tense shoulders relaxed.
Most women were like this, Patriarch Han thought indifferently. For the sake of their children, they could have no self of their own. He rather thought that if Xinya hadn't asked him but someone else instead, she would probably be committing herself to some other man right now. Now that she had lost all her money, she no longer had anything but to give but herself.
It was an unpleasant feeling.
He had intended to hand the documents over and leave, but when he looked at this shabby-looking woman whose youth was behind her, he felt displeasure.
He gave the implant in his brain instructions.
"What are your plans for the future?" he asked.
"I'll look for a job," Xinya said softly. "After I find one, things will stabilize."
Patriarch Han sneered.
Xinya didn't understand, but suddenly found that the car was moving. It was such a smooth and shock-absorbent ride that if it hadn't been for the scenery going by outside she wouldn't have felt it at all. She asked hesitantly, "Where are we going?"
Patriarch Han glanced at her. "Your residence."
Her lips parted. Leaning back, Patriarch Han said, "My woman, living in a shanty town? Are you kidding me?"
Xinya bowed her head.
Her new residence was a very comfortable, high-end apartment, but what stung Xinya was the scenery outside the bedroom's floor-to-ceiling windows. The view from those French windows overlooked a high-end residential area.
She saw her home, the one she had grown up in and which had been sold. If she lived here, she would wake up every day seeing that familiar roof.
"It's your home." Patriarch Han said, standing behind her and looking out. "I could buy it for you, too, but I know that's not what you want."
Xinya didn't want a house. She wanted her child to return to the upper class. That couldn't be changed based on who gave her a house, but depended on Tang Ke alone.
"As I said before, give him to me." The man behind her lowered his head and kissed her neck.
Xinya closed her eyes.
In the end, she had become one of his collection after all.

When Tang Ke left school that day, he didn't get on the school bus. Xinya went straight to school to get him.
Moving took only half a day. A laser marker was used to label the things to be moved, and the packaging robot would pack them up in the most efficient manner. It was quick and simple. It didn't take long either for Xinya and Tang Ke to return to the East District, and for their things to be unpacked.
"We're moving?" Tang Ke asked, slightly surprised and a little uneasy, "Can't we afford to live here anymore?"
Xinya felt incredibly awkward. She didn't know how to explain it to Tang Ke.
"Your-- your uncle helped us find a new place. Your school has also been arranged. You..." she paused. "Later, when you get home, go pack up your things to move to the Han manor tonight."
Tang Ke was even more surprised at that. "Are we moving to the manor?"
"No, just you," Xinya said. "The school's public spaceship takes three hours one way, while the Han family's private spaceship much faster. It only takes an hour to get there from the manor. All the children of the Han family who attend Dongchen live at the manor, and in the future you'll be living with them. You'll get to make lots of friends."
What was known as the East District was comprised of an area that included two planets and three satellites. Dongchen Academy was not located on their planet, but on its second satellite known as the Little Moon.
Not all children surnamed Han could attend Dongchen. If one's spiritual power was below B-class, it was impossible to get in. Children who could go to school at Dongchen all had such bright futures that it could be seen with the naked eye. Gathering them together in the manor was not only to make it convenient for them to go to school, but also for all the children of the same generation in the family to familiarize themselves with each other, so that they would stick together.
They could go back home on weekends, and their parents could visit the manor at any time, so it was quite flexible. This had been a family tradition for a very long time.
Every once in a while there would be children like Tang Ke, who were not surnamed Han.
Although Tang Ke was precocious, he had not yet lost his childish innocence. Just like how he thought Han Yanyan was like an angel, he also had no idea what sort of life he faced in the future. At the moment he was still immersed in the joy of moving to a new house and transferring schools.
"Then I can meet Sister Yanyan everyday," he said happily.
Just then, his neural link received Han Yanyan's short message, and Tang Ke showed it to his mother happily. "Sister Yanyan already knows I'm going to transfer."
Han Yanyan: Little rabbit, are you moving here tonight? Your sister is waiting for you~
Xinya's heart felt like it had been seized. She turned pale.
"Why..." Her lips trembled. "Why did she call you a 'little rabbit'?"
Only a few hours ago, Han Yanyan's father had pressed her down onto the big bed in the new apartment, and breathing hard into her ear, he had also called her "Little Rabbit".
Her face had lost its color, and for no reason at all, her heart was afraid.
"Mom, my things are all packed. Can we go now?" Tang Ke asked.
Xinya looked at her son, his face full of expectation and felt that... she might not be able to turn back from this road.
Even in the car, Tang Ke was saying to her happily, "Mom, uncle and sister are so nice."
She didn't know how to answer him.
