Chapter 521: The Reality of Society

The courtyard fell silent.

Everyone’s eyes were focused on the young man.

‘Who’s Captain Gao? What did the kid mean by ‘a big haul’?’ They were confused.

‘This kid is such a boast!

‘Don’t tell me… this kid is actually some VIP?’

Huang Lili came to her senses and started mocking him, “Pah! Who are you trying to scare?”

She smirked disdainfully.

‘I’ve seen the kid before. He must be Fangfang’s boyfriend. Would that little whore have a VIP boyfriend? That must only be an empty threat.’

The villagers looked at each other and started laughing disdainfully too.

‘Even if the kid knows some figure of authority, can they be any more powerful than Superintendent He’s brother? He’s a commissioner, one of the most powerful people in the district.’

They lingered outside the residence to watch the drama unfold, pointing at Tang Hao and the house while talking.

“Quick, call an ambulance!”

Superintendent He lay on the ground while clutching his crotch. He looked like he would kick the bucket anytime soon.

“He’s not going to die! He’s never going to be a man again though,” Tang Hao mumbled.

He walked next to Grandpa Shunde. “Don’t be angry, Grandpa! It’s not good for your health.”

“Hah! I’m already one foot in my grave,” Grandpa Shunde waved his hand and sighed.

“I’m not angry though, I’ve already given up on those ingrates! I’ve heard from Fangfang that you are quite powerful. Don’t worry, do whatever you like to them.”

The old man pulled over a stool and sat down.

Before the ambulance arrived, a swarm of police cars stopped at the entrance of the residence. The villagers were dumbstruck when they saw that.

Then, their faces turned pale.

“That one, that one, and the one over there…”

Tang Hao pointed at several people in the crowd. They were middle-aged women who had insulted Ma Fangfang’s mother earlier.

Tang Hao wanted to teach them a lesson since the last time for gossiping about other people behind their backs.

Captain Gao led his subordinates to the crowd and arrested whoever Tang Hao pointed.

“Those people spread false rumors in public. That’s against the law. Take them back to the police station and lock them up for a few days!

“That one on the ground attempted to rape a woman, and those people surrounding him are all accomplices. Arrest them all!”

“No problem! I’ll bring all of them back and question them properly.”

Captain Gao waved his hand. He brought the police officers to arrest Huang Lili and the others.

It was the first time that Huang Lili was involved in such a grand display of power. Her knees went weak, and she fell sitting on the ground.

Their faces turned pale, and their bodies started trembling. They could not believe what was about to happen to them.

The kid was not making empty threats.

All the police officers must have come from the district headquarters. Even the police captain from the district headquarters had to be courteous to the kid. Just who is he?

How could Ma Fangfang know such a VIP?

They were feeling panic and regret at that moment.

“What are you doing? Ouch! All you police officers are idiots. You must be tired of living! Don’t you know who I am?” Superintendent He yelled angrily while struggling.

“I don’t care who you are. It doesn’t matter even if you are the king of heaven. Don’t you know who the young man is?” Captain Gao said coldly to him.

“Who… who is he?” Superintendent He was shocked.

“Remember this. He’s the chairman of Haotian Group!”

“Hao… Haotian?” A chill went up Superintendent He’s spine.

He sucked in a mouthful of cold air, and his pupils dilated in panic.

It went without saying that he had heard of Haotian Group before. It was the biggest company in the Westridge business world. The kid’s background was far more powerful than he could imagine.

“That’s him?” He mumbled while trembling violently, as though his soul had left his body. His knees went weak, and he did not put up any resistance as two police officers brought him away.

Huang Lili and the others panicked when they saw Superintendent He being carried away.

“Save me, Dad! I don’t want to go to jail!”

“I know that I’m wrong, Dad. Please forgive us! I won’t ever do this again!”

They fell to the ground and kowtowed several times to Grandpa Shunde.

The old man sat there impassively.

“I don’t have bastard children like the two of you. If you know that what you’re doing is wrong, you shouldn’t have done it in the first place. Go and receive your punishment. That might teach you something.”

“Bring them away!” Captain Gao waved his hand.

After that, he walked toward Tang Hao.

Captain Gao had known Tang Hao for quite some time, though the young man had become far more powerful and influential than the first time they met.

In less than a year, the young man had started a group of companies and had become the major force in the Westridge business world.

“Thank you for the trouble, Captain Gao!”

“Ha! Don’t mention it!” Captain Gao waved his hands and said. His expression was even more respectful than ever.

One could even say that he was fearful of the young man.

“Right, where is the victim? We’ll still have to record a statement,” Captain Gao said.

Cai Yourong came out of the house. “I’ll follow you.”

“I’m going too, Yourong.” Grandpa Shunde stood up from the stool.

They got into Tang Hao’s car and followed the police cars to the police station. The villagers were left standing on the spot, dumbstruck.

It was two o’clock in the afternoon when they left the police station.

Tang Hao sent Grandpa Shunde back to the village.

The atmosphere in the residence was a lot livelier than before. Many people were there to make friends with him.

Those people used to watch impassively from the sidelines, or even mocked them openly. However, their attitudes have changed utterly.

Now that they knew Cai Yourong’s daughter had a VIP boyfriend, she would be wildly successful in the future.

“Oh, Yourong, it must be hard for you to take care of Grandpa Shunde. I’ll help you with your housework from now on.”

“This is your favorite liquor, Grandpa. Please take it!”

Grandpa Shunde and Cai Yourong were uncomfortable with the treatment they received.

“Sigh, all these people!” Grandpa Shunde shook his head.

He had lived long enough to know that those people were only sucking up to them to gain some material benefit, and that was the exact reason he felt sad.

“The effects of the medicine are almost wearing off, Grandpa. Your body will start to weaken. I give it maybe another month and a half.

“I still have some medicine though, that’ll extend your life for a little longer.”

Grandpa Shunde was surprised but waved his hands dismissively. “There’s no need to waste the medicine on me! I’ve already lived enough, not to mention that I’ve been happy in the past few months. I’ve been to all the places I have to go, and I’ve done everything that I need to do. I don’t have any more regrets.”

“But…” Tang Hao hesitated.

“Alright, no ‘but’s. You’ve done enough for me. Just let me depart happily!

“I’m still worried about Yourong and Fangfang. I hope that you can take care of them for me. That will be my final wish.”

“Mm! Don’t worry, Grandpa!”

Tang Hao was silent for a long time before he agreed to it.
