The next morning Sasha woke up to the sound of her phone buzzing, it was a message from David, "It's fine. You don't have to apologise so often." It read.

A moment passed then the phone vibrated again as a second message came through, "I wasn't mad or anything, I just had a lot of studying to do before this trip and it's uncomfortable having to ask my room mates for you to stay over constantly. They want their space and as much as I like you I do need mine from time to time as well... Try not to let the spiders get to you, I know it's scary, but they are only spiders, they can't do much to hurt you. I'll see you Sunday when I get back."

Sasha sighed, she begun typing out her reply, but did not know what to say, she did not want to seem clingy and more importantly she did not want to seem crazy about the spider situation. Reluctantly she put her phone down on  her bedside table and resolved to respond later once she had properly woken up and had a clearer head.

Sasha was slow to rise from her bed, paranoia throughout the night kept her from reaching a deep sleep and even though just now waking up she already felt tired once more. She pulled herself up slowly, only to spot a spider on the far wall, sitting in the same spot as the one she had just killed the night before. It was a deep black with a thin green line across it's abdomen, the green line was new, most of the spiders she encountered were just black furry things, she had never seen a spider with a strip like this across it, the colour of it was striking, it seemed unnatural but in a way that she could not quite put her finger on.

Sasha slide out of bed and went for the bug spray and boot to kill it, but the sudden movement must have startled the arachnid and it quickly raced down from the wall and behind her dresser. Sasha spent a few minutes moving her furniture about and looking for the pest, but it seemed to vanish, she could not find any sign of it anywhere. Sasha was uncomfortable, she loaded up her bag and dressed herself quickly, not even worrying to take a shower or style her hair beforehand, she wanted to leave the dorm as fast as possible.

It was a long day for Sasha, a full day of lectures and classes, made even longer by the fact that she did not feel comfortable returning home between her commitments. Sasha spent the day stuck in public places, avoiding the basement and unable to fully relax.

By the time she returned home it was well into the evening, almost time for bed. Opening the door Sasha saw the spider that had escaped from her that morning perched up high in one of the far corners of the room. The green stripe across its abdomen seemed to almost glow in amongst the dim light of the basement and the abnormally black legs stood out against the bleak unpainted walls. Moving cautiously towards the spider Sasha gathered the spray and boot, making sure not to move too suddenly and scare it away.

Gripping the aerosol tight she doused the pest in bug spray before slamming her boot against the wall, she could feel the internal organs of the arachnid body compressing and erupting underneath the boot. Sasha paused for a moment afterwards to keep the pressure on the boot and ensure it had been fully squashed. To her horror however she saw a bent furry leg emerge from beneath one of the groves of the shoe, followed by another. The spider pulled itself out from under the boot and began racing up the side of the wall. It had not been squashed at all; it was fine. Sasha had felt the spider flatten through the boot, she was sure of it, but somehow it was completely unscathed.

Sasha let out a reflexive scream, as the spider ascended up the wall with an unnatural intensity. Reacting swiftly Sasha emptied the can of bug spray out onto the pest, dousing it in a mist of toxic spray. The spider fell down to the ground, but still continued to move, racing around the floor before disappearing behind the dresser.

Sasha spent the next fifteen minutes perched on the edge of her bed, too afraid to place her feet on the ground, eventually she got up the nerve to get down from the bed and search the room for the green striped spider. An hour passed and no result, Sasha had moved and checked under and behind all her furniture, but nothing turned up. It was getting late and the weight of the day was beginning to take its toll on her. Sasha had always found it hard to sleep knowing a spider was lose in her room, but she was struggling to keep her eyes open and soon found herself collapsing onto her bed, falling asleep soon after.
