Shielding Fu Zhi behind his back, Gu Yanqi said, “The Gu Family and the Li Family have never done anything wrong to you. I’m sure you know that the reason you guys have pushed us to a corner is your weapons and manpower. As long as the Li Family’s Shadow Corps are here, you will have no possibility of winning.
“Besides, it will not do you any good if the news of you ambushing us at the Lucky Cloud Pavilion gets out, so how about we make a deal? No matter who’s paying for you guys to come, we are willing to pay ten times that price for you to cancel your plans.”
“You’ve never done anything wrong to us? Cancel our plans?” the man sneered coldly. “I can’t believe that you’re such a naive person, Young Master Gu. Do you have any idea how many people from Phantom Lord were killed by Li Nanli during his mission in Country F? Li Nanli is only second to Shen Cizhou in our list of enemies that must be killed. Also, since we accepted the order, we have naturally thought of a way out.”
In other words, it was out of the question.
Gu Yanqi frowned.
“I remember that there is a relevant saying in your country…” Mark said. “An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.”
Mark ran his fingers across the gun in the holster. Gu Yanqi hastily pulled Fu Zhi and fell back. “Think about it, Mark! If you kill us here, you will be living in fear of being hunted down by the Li Family and the Gu Family for the rest of your life! Do you really want that to happen?”
Mark ignored Gu Yanqi and fixed his eyes on the woman behind him. Under the light, he saw that the woman’s face was dirty, but her eyes were as bright as the stars in the night sky.
‘So she’s Li Nanli’s girlfriend? Interesting.’
A cruel smile danced across his lips when this thought popped into his mind. He rolled his eyes in their sockets and said, “How about this? I know you don’t want to die, so I will give you a chance. Let’s play a game. If you win, I will let one of you live.”
“Captain! Boss said we should get rid of them as soon as possible!”
“Yeah, right! These people are as cunning as foxes. The two of them have killed many of our brothers, so who knows what kind of tricks they still have up their sleeves!”
“Boss ordered us to kill them right away!”
After all, they knew how tricky their mission was. Li Nanli had been able to cause them some losses although he had only brought one team with him, so if they let him run away this time… they did not think they would be able to handle Li Nanli’s revenge.
“Silence! I know what I’m doing, and you guys just need to follow my orders!” Mark turned around and snarled, causing the crowd behind him to fall silent. Then, he spun his head back and fixed his eyes on Fu Zhi. He licked his lips and said, “What do you think? Are you up to the challenge?”
Gu Yanqi frowned.
He knew Mark must be up to no good.
Just as he’d expected, Mark said, “Let’s have a fight. No weapons, just with our fists.
“If you defeat me, one of you will live. As for who will live, that will be up to you guys. Of course, you can rest assured. No one will interfere while the fight is going on.”
Truth be told, anyone who did not know Mark and met him for the first time would think that he was just an honest, simple man. However, what they did not know was that behind that deceitful appearance of his hid a cruel heart.
Gu Yanqi was not a good fighter, and Mark knew it very well, as he had all the information he needed about Gu Yanqi. He just couldn’t help but toy with his prey before he ate it.
Gu Yanqi took a look at the house on top of the mountain. He was totally cut off from them, so he could not get in touch with them now. He could not be sure if they could hear them and come to save Fu Zhi before he died.
However, there was one thing he was very certain of. Fu Zhi was very important to Li Nanli, and no matter what happened, he had to keep her alive.
Therefore, even though he knew he could never defeat Mark and Mark would probably go back on his word, which meant that there was a good chance he would put a bullet through Fu Zhi’s head the moment he died, he would try his best to make the fight drag on for as long as possible.
What if a miracle happened?
Mark took a step forward and beckoned to him.
Gu Yanqi turned around and told Fu Zhi, “I will try my best to hold Mark. You find a chance and run as far as you can. Their target is Li Nanli, so they won’t go all out to look for you.
“When you’re running, don’t look back, alright? Can you promise me that?”
“Sure.” Fu Zhi nodded and replied without any hesitation, “Don’t worry. I won’t look back. Good luck with your fight. I will be rooting for you.”
Gu Yanqi was stumped. He had not expected Fu Zhi’s reaction to his heroic deed to be so cold.
‘Well… She’s Fu Zhi, so what can I expect from her?’
Gu Yanqi shrugged and turned back to Mark.
He took a deep breath and then charged over at Mark like an arrow released from its string.
Everyone was shocked, as they had not expected Gu Yanqi to launch the first strike. After Mark avoided his initial attack, he kicked Mark’s sheen, throwing him off balance.
“Captain!”
The group of mercenaries behind Mark shouted.
Although Gu Yanqi was not as strong as Mark and did not have a lot of flashy moves, he was more agile.

That said, everything was useless in the face of absolute power.
After Mark resumed his stance, he looked at Gu Yanqi and said, “Very well, Gu Yanqi. Now that I’ve taken your punches, it’s time for you to take mine!”
Upon saying that, the man threw a punch at Gu Yanqi, and Gu Yanqi was forced to take a few steps back, as he could not avoid the attack in time.
Everyone knew that Gu Yanqi would not be able to last long during this fight. Even Gu Yanqi knew that himself very well. However, when a person was in dire straits, they were able to tap into their greatest potential. Time was fleeting minute by minute, and yet Gu Yanqi was still fighting.
The mercenaries from Phantom Lord were getting more and more impatient as they began to whisper against each other.
Mark was annoyed by Gu Yanqi’s fighting style. “Gu Yanqi! Stop dreaming! Nobody is here to save you guys! It’s only a matter of time before you’ll die! Just s*ck it up and stop running around like a p*ssy!”
However, Gu Yanqi ignored him and kept running around.
Mark punched him again and, once more, he avoided the punch by a hair’s width.
This time, the man was completely enraged. He pulled the dagger out of his boot, as he’d decided to end this quickly.
“It’s all over now,” Mark hissed as he raised the dagger high in the air.
The dagger gleamed coldly under the moonlight, and Gu Yanqi had nowhere to run. He closed his eyes and waited for that moment to come.
Warm blood splashed down on his jaw, and he fell on the ground limply.
Many images crossed his eyes, and the last thing that appeared was a woman’s face.
“Get up.” Gu Yanqi felt someone kicking him.
He opened his eyes and when he saw Fu Zhi, he signed. “You haven’t run away yet, huh? Then I’ll die first.”
As soon as he said that, he closed his eyes.
Fu Zhi was speechless.
“What are you talking about? You can feel the pain even though the dagger did not stab you?” Fu Zhi kicked Gu Yanqi again and said, “Get up. It’s time to do some business.”
Gu Yanqi cracked his eyes open and was stunned when he saw Fu Zhi holding Mark at gunpoint.
‘Who am I? Where the hell am I? And what the hell happened when I closed my eyes just now?’
A myriad of questions crossed Gu Yanqi’s mind.
In fact, he was not the only one who was dumbfounded. Even the people from Phantom Lord did not know when Fu Zhi had sneaked her way into the fight. Just as the dagger had been a few centimeters away from Gu Yanqi’s chest, a bullet had gone through Mark’s right hand. While Mark had staggered from the pain, Fu Zhi had swooped in and taken control of the situation.
Everything had happened too fast.
Everyone had been focused on Mark and Gu Yanqi, and no one had ever expected that a girl like Fu Zhi would dare to step into the fight.
Gu Yanqi did not know what the others were thinking, but what he knew was that Fu Zhi had dared to shoot them while he had been fighting with Mark.
What if she’d accidentally shot him instead?
He might have died!
Gu Yanqi licked his lips and swallowed hard.
Fu Zhi glanced at the group of mercenaries and said, “Let’s make a deal.”
Mark sneered, “That’s not possible. There’s no f*cking way I will let Li Nanli go. Besides, if you dare pull the trigger, you will die here too!”
Fu Zhi pulled Mark over and said, “I just want to go to the house at the top of the mountain. When I get there, I will release you.”
“Fu Zhi!” Gu Yanqi whispered. “We can use him as leverage to get out of this place.”
“My boyfriend is in the house on top of the mountain,” she said. “I just want to go there.”
The people from Phantom Lord stepped back and made way for her.
She had injected the right amount of anesthesia into Mark’s body.
Holding the first-aid kit, Gu Yanqi followed Fu Zhi.
Mark was still struggling, and Fu Zhi kicked his knee, causing him to jerk his head around and glare at her.
Fu Zhi had been there for more than two hours, and her patience was running thin. She kicked him again and said, “If you don’t know how to walk, then you don’t need your legs. I can ask Gu Yanqi to carry you up there.”
Both Mark and Gu Yanqi fell silent.
They did not know who she was torturing.
Gu Yanqi? Mark? Probably both.
