I quickly finished the book just before the bus arrived at the stop near the commercial district.

I went into the furniture store and looked around for the cheapest chair I could find. There was one on sale for just under ten dollars, I took it up to the cashier and paid.

'Have a nice day.'

You too.

Luckily, just outside this furniture store, there was a donation bin. I wasn't going to take such a large object all the way back home so this was very convenient for me. I placed the chair into the donation bin and checked my missions once again.

2. [Situational Mission! 2x rewards!] Get above 95% on the Science Test tomorrow (Difficulty: 11)

3. Sit next to a girl on the bus to school (Difficulty: 5)

-

What were these weird missions? I assumed that 'situational mission' meant that it was possible to fail them if you miss the condition. I wondered if there was a penalty for failing them. I quickly checked my experience and waited for the next bus back to my house. It was getting pretty late in the day anyways.

-

I was still a decent amount away from levelling up. I'll finish some more missions tomorrow.

*

The pain of the ringing alarm clock echoed throughout my head.

Hey, did you know? When someone is stuck in a constant state of abuse, there comes a point where they stop trying to get into a better situation. Instead of trying to save themselves from the situation, they cling to it harder, worrying that they'll lose what little they had.

The cold sensation of Beethoven's 5th symphony filled my heart.

The morning was cold, my body was cold, and the fabric on my clothes was cold. My rough, dirtied black pants, my crinkled, damaged white shirt, my wet, rugged socks, my discoloured green tie and my undersized, mucky blazer—one by one I put them on.

I skipped breakfast and made my way to the bus stop through the chilly wind and slight rain.

I still had to complete my mission. At my stop, most of the bus seats were occupied but there were still a few empty rows. People would definitely think I was odd if I randomly decided to take a seat next to them, especially a girl.

But who cares am I right?

I dropped my bag under the seat and sat down next to a short, brown-haired girl. She glanced at me with a confused look on her face.

However, she didn't tell me to leave.

The bus trip to school wasn't a long one, so before long, I reached the front gate of my torture chamber. I still wasn't sure what happened yesterday with the fight with Teru. It appeared that I got teleported back to my room and all my wounds got healed. He was in the year level above mine so I hoped that I wouldn't see him.

Well, I hoped that everyday, but everyday, they would come to find me, and they would hurt me.

Who cares anymore?

I just needed to get a good score on my science test.

Not that that was going to be a challenge.

I walked into the classroom for the first period of the day, the science test. I looked at my seat which had been quite overtly vandalised.

Who cares?

I pulled out my chair and swiped the thumbtacks onto the ground.

'Everyone will have sixty minutes to complete this test. Calculators are allowed but you are not permitted to use any notes...'

Yap yap yap, just get on with it.

The test paper was placed in front of me. It instantly got stained by the residue ink on my table. The teacher didn't care about that and neither did I.

One by one I completed the questions.

Above 95% was it? I guess I'd get 96% then.

At the end of the test, The teacher made her way around the class and picked up all the test papers, putting them into a little pile.

**

Just two periods later, the tests were all marked and the results were handed back to us. I looked around at the mixture of happy and sad reactions to their results. Before long, I got back my test and looked at the score.

96%.

Well, that was what I was going for.

I opened my missions menu and looked at my experience.

1. Do 150 hundred pull-ups (Difficulty: 6)

2. Defeat a level-2 Esper or above [Difficulty: 13]

3. Drink one litre of blood [Difficulty 9]

-

What the hell was this? Now I had to fight people and drink blood? This was getting more and more difficult. What a pain.

I looked at my experience menu.

-

<Experience>

<LEVEL UP>

147 [1000 needed to level up]

-

Actually, now that I thought about it, I remember that I had other abilities but I still don't know how to use them. I managed to get another skill in this level-up. I guess I'd have a look at how I'd use my abilities after I use my stat point and look at the shop. Also what was 'Haven'? It sounded like something quite major. I might wait until I get home before I try to figure out what it is.

-

<Attributes>

Strength: 2+1/100

Speed: 1/100

Agility: 1/100

Spatial Awareness: 1/100

-

I decided to just put another point into strength.

-

<Shop>

For Sale (Refreshes every day):

[Increased Blood Capacity] - 10 Vampire Tokens

[Flashbang] - 2 Vampire Tokens

[Random Common Ability] - 50 Vampire Tokens

-

It looked like I could buy tangible items like a flashbang as well. Before I spent my tokens, I decided to have a look at how my abilities were meant to work. I looked at the abilities menu and noticed that each ability had an information portal beside them.
