3 days after the Kree had retreated, somewhere within the Atlantic Ocean, in The Raft.
This was a lone island that Howard Stark had personally designed and participated in the construction of when the SSR was at its prime.
This massive containment base that scaled across thousands of square kilometers was nearly entirely made out of special steel. It looked entirely like a large metal canister buried into the ocean.
Since the Raft contains too many secrets that shouldn't be leaked, the entry procedures for this place were complex, and Merlin waited in the hospital for three days for clearance to enter this facility.
He wasn't here alone, to be exact, he was here while accompanying a certain female individual.
"How's Fury?"
While sitting on the helicopter and looking at the large-scale prison emerging from the sea, Carol asks softly:
"I heard he was in the hospital due to infection?"
"Mhmm."
Merlin with his arm hung by a black medical belt nods and says:
"He's quite spirited, his body is somewhat weak due to the body's rejection. But his left eye...well, the doctor suggests that he removes it."
"How'd this happen?"
Carol frowns and asks:
"Didn't he stay out of the fight? I disinfected the Kree starship with energy rays before I delivered it to the surface, supposedly an infection like this shouldn't happen."
"He got scratched by Goose."
Merlin shrugs and lowers his tone:
"Do you know of Goose's real identity?"
"Mar-Vell's cat?"
Carol less out a sly smile and says:
"I didn't before, but I knew after reading about Flerkens on Hala."
"No wonder you stayed away from that cat."
Merlin sighs and says:
"I don't even know whether or not I should tell Fury about this, I'm guilty."
"This plane's too slow."
Carol suddenly says so as they were 15 meters away from the Raft, she then grabs onto Merlin's arm and leaps from the helicopter; one transformed into black fog while the other ignited her energy flame, moments later, the two land on the deck of the Raft.
Merlin reaches out and waves at the helicopter, the pilot agent Barton gives him a thumbs up before turning the helicopter and quickly disappearing into the distance.
"You don't have to feel guilty."
Carol in her black jacket and baseball cap presses her cap, she tells Merlin is his casual grey suit:
"Flerken's claws aren't poisonous, all Fury has to do is hold out for a few months, and his eye will recover once it gets used to the germs the Flerken left in his eye. Maybe he'll even get a bonus effect...like your eyes."
"Hah, should I find some time to let Goose scratch me?"
Merlin lets out a small laugh as he leads Carol into the Raft.
He and agent Victoria Hand who was stationed here were long-time friends, she converses with Merlin for a brief moment before giving them temporary access cards, then sends them to the lowest part of the Raft, which was also the most heavily guarded place in the facility.
Usually, important materials are stored here, and sometimes, dangerous or important figures are kept here.
"Bang"
As the gears turned, the metal seal in front of the two is slowly lifted, revealing the glass prisons and the 2 people in those prisons.
Yon Rogg, and his adjutant Minn-Erva.
As the metal plate retracts, Yon Rogg, who was contemplating on the bed, instinctively raises his head and sees Carol with a baseball cap behind the glass.
The latter was looking at him with mixed feelings in her blue eyes.
Yon Rogg wearing a grey prisoner's suit stood up, he seemed rather free as he was not bound by chains.
But Merlin knew that there were high-voltage tasers and tranquilizing fumers installed in the prison cell. This place would not be able to detain a powerhouse like Ronan.
But with Yon Rogg's strength and abilities, it would be very difficult for him to escape.
"You're finally here."
Yon Rogg walks to the glass, this handsome Kree reaches out and sticks his hand on the glass wall. With a smile in his eyes, he looks at Carol and says:
"I knew you'd won once Minn-Erva was delivered here."
"Even Ronan has lost to you, you make me proud, Carol."
Yon Rogg says softly:
"L always knew of your potential, and I've finally seen the day you unleash your full potential, you've become the most perfect lifeform. Vers..."
"Carol!"
Carol raises her head, looks at Yon Rogg, and says:
"My name is Carol! Not Vers."
"Alright, Carol."
Yon Rogg shrugs and says:
"It seems that you've chosen to side with your homeworld, which is what I would choose in the same position. After all, that is the starting point of defining one's existence, I had advised the Supreme Intelligence to not use such an unreliable method like memory blockade 6 years ago."
The captain of Starforce shakes his head and says with pity:
"We should've given you a new identity back then, real memories, for you to treat Hala as your real home...6 years is enough for you to become a real Kree."
"A pity those idiotic pure-blood theorists rejected to do so. They'd rather destroy you than accept you."
"They drove a god of war to the enemies' side! They caused our terrible defeat!"
"Bam"
Yon Rogg could not maintain his calm, he was a true warrior, and couldn't handle defeat just as Ronan couldn't.
He smashes on the glass, saying to Carol and the indifferent Merlin:
"Heh, what an irony. We created a god with our hands, then turned her into the warrior who will doom us all."
"The defeat of the Kree is inevitable, there would be others even if it wasn't me."
Carol puts both hands in her pockets and tells Yon Rogg:
"Your Supreme Intelligence has already gone mad, he started the path of self-destruction long ago. You used the data of countless forerunners to create a soulless monster...and you expect this monster to lead you."
"He has enough data and knowledge, but he will never gain the 'wisdom' you all yearn and need so much."

"What exactly are you here for?"
Yon Rogg did not wish to further discuss the Supreme Intelligence, he looks at Carol and the Merlin behind her, saying:
"Are you here to boast of your victory? Or have you come here to declare your new life with your pretty boy? Have you come to disgrace me? Carol!"
"No, Yon."
Carol shakes her head, she takes a deep breath and says to Yon Rogg:
"I'm here to say goodbye."
"Say goodbye?"
Yon Rogg frowns as he looks at Carol:
"Where are you going? Are you not going to stay on Earth? How are your weak companions going to face Ronan's revenge without you?"
"They don't need me to claim victory, you're the same as your people, Yon, you underestimate the Earthlings."
Carol moves her shoulders and lets out a smile of relief, saying:
"As for me, I'm going off into space."
"Yon, you and your people ruined my life, I'm going to look for a new one for myself. Those who have already detached from the Skrull Queen, the Skrull refugees who seek peace yet are being hunted by you, I'll help them."
"I will gather their people in the Milky Way, then leave the Milky Way in search of a new home for them."
"And then, I'll go to Hala...if the Supreme Intelligence still exists, I'll 'talk' with him about the past."
A glow flashes in Carol's eyes as she says softly:
"I will give him back everything he forced onto me!"
As Carol finishes, the room stays quiet. Yon Rogg makes a surprised expression and looks at Carol, a few seconds later, he says:
"You're crazy!"
"You want to make friends with a Skrull, who'll betray you, kill you, and control you! Carol, you're really crazy!"
"Stop trying to bewitch me with those ancient rumors."
Carol looks at Yon Rogg with disinterest and shakes her hand, saying:
"I already have a Skrull friend...not all Skrulls are evil, just as not all Kree are good; in fact, with what I've been through, the Skrulls are friendlier than you guys."
"Yon, just stay here."
Carol's eyes turn sharp as she says:
"If you dare to escape! No matter where you escape to, I'll capture you again!"
Hearing Carol's threat, Yon Rogg takes a step back as his expression turns indifferent, he says:
"I'll stay here! Carol, I'll see the day when the Kree Army conquers this planet! You lived in the Kree Empire, you should know..."
"This world cannot stop our conquest!"
But Carol was already done with saying her goodbyes, she waves her hand, turns around, and exits the room.
Behind her, Merlin with his arm hung presses the close button. As Yon Rogg watched, the metal plate closes up, and as it completely closes up, Merlin walks to where Carol was standing, looks at Yon Rogg, and says softly:
"People always have imaginations, that things would become true once you believe in it."
"But, Mr. Yon ROgg, do you know what's the worst part?"
Yon Rogg didn't answer, he stared at Merlin's eyes as he had recognized who he was.
The agent in front of him was the one who knocked him down and took him prisoner.
Merlin also stares at Yon Rogg as the scene of him knocking down Yon Rogg replays in his mind.
It was he who turned the Kree soldier before him into a prisoner.
The two stared at each other without a word until the metal plate permanently closes up.
He tidies his collar, turns, and leaves the room; as he exits the prison cell, he sees Carol leaning against the wall with a female cigar in her hand, albeit she hadn't lit it up.
"We're not allowed to smoke here."
Merlin steps forward and says so to Carol.
"Oh? Are you gonna stop me?"
Carol stares at him, Merlin shrugs and leans against the wall next to Carol; he takes out his own Silka cigar from his pocket and lights it with a clump of fire.
He says:
"What I mean to say is, if someone wants to talk, I don't mind listening to it."
The two remain silent for a moment, then Merlin says softly:
"Must feel bad, right? Even if he had lied to you, even if he had used you, you still reminisce about the past you spent with him."
Carol did not nod, nor did she shake her head, a few seconds later, she says:
"No, I don't reminisce it at all. I just feel like today's an important day, and I should have a drink with someone."
"Why's it important?"
Merlin asks, but before Carol could answer, he mumbles to himself:
"The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why. "Right?"
"Mark Twain."
Carol takes off her cap, brushes her messy blonde hair, and purses her lips, saying:
"I didn't think that you were the nostalgic type."
"It's just that I read a wide variety of books. Still want to drink?"
Merlin extinguishes the cigar and throws it into the trash can, he turns back and looks at Carol:
"Where to drink? I know a nice bar in Hell's Kitchen, albeit I've never been there."
Carol shakes her head, she takes a step forward, tilts her head, and looks at Merlin's eyes; moments later, she lets out a smile and says:
"No, I'd like to listen to your story."
"Let's drink in your room."
Merlin was taken aback, he looks at Carol seriously, to which the latter did not dodge and stared right back at him.
Eventually, he nods.
