Chapter 353: But There Are Those Green-eyed Monsters Who Just Gotta Make Themselves Heard!

In the end, Li Lanying chased Wei Zilin out of the kitchen, so he went on a stroll with Xu Moyan.

To be honest, Wei Zilin was not really interested in taking a walk. He mainly wanted to see more of the place Xu Moyan had lived in across most of her life.

Xu Moyan led Wei Zilin downstairs, and they met a lot of their nearby neighbors along the way. She greeted them all with a smile, whereas Wei Zilin could not avoid a curious glance or two. Wei Zilin’s looks and presence definitely stood out in these parts.

Nevertheless, the two of them were not too bothered by the neighbors’ looks of curiosity.

By now, the rain had stopped as well, but it was still rather misty. The two of them held hands as they walked along the stone pavements within the compound, strolling at a leisurely pace.

Wei Zilin went up four flights of stairs with Xu Moyan, reaching a small exercise park in the apartment complex.

The park was not large. There was an empty area in the middle of it, but around the edges of the park, there was a slide, some simple exercise equipment, and two stone elephants, one large and one small. Since kids were constantly sitting on the elephants over the years, the elephants’ backs had been smoothened until they were bright and shiny. Not far away from the stone elephants, there was a see-saw and a tire swing. There was a child sitting in the swing right now, swinging back and forth happily amidst the echoing laughter.

Right next to the park, there was a kindergarten. Xu Moyan introduced the place to Wei Zilin, “When I was younger, there weren’t many things to play with here. Back then, there was only this slide and those two stone elephants. There used to be a small pavilion there too, and a trader would sell all sorts of trinkets there. There was also a trampoline in front of the pavilion, and we could play on it for half an hour if we paid just one buck.

“When I went to elementary school, my classmates were from hereabouts too. After lunch, or during the weekends, we would come here and play on the trampoline together.

“It was because there wasn’t much to play with around here. Later, they opened a kindergarten next door, and there were loads of things to play with there. They also made everything bright and colorful, so it was especially pretty. We would always sneak inside from here,” said Xu Moyan, pointing at the kindergarten wall.

The wall was covered with Boston ivy vines. After the winter and moving into spring, there were a few tender green buds on the vines. Next to it, there was a metal grille door that was slightly rusty. The door had metal bars across it, making it easy to climb.

Wei Zilin could not help but imagine Xu Moyan acting as mischievous as a boy when she was younger. Just the thought of it was adorable.

Going past the park, they arrived at a rock garden. The rock formation was not too tall, and Xu Moyan pointed at the pavilion at the very top. “The market is right ahead. When I was in high school, my mom went to the market to buy vegetables once, and on the way back, she even saw a girl I was close with having a date with a boy in our class up there.”

Wei Zilin asked with a laugh, “So how did Mom react? Did she tell your friend’s parents?”

Xu Moyan shook her head. “My mom only took the headmaster position after I graduated from high school. She was just another teacher at the time. After she got home, she mentioned it to me and I asked her that too. She said it’s fine since she saw them outside school, but if she had bumped into them in school, she would have to report it to my friend’s parents. But it wasn’t in school, and the girl was my close friend too. She was worried that it’d make things hard for me if she told on her.”

“It’s pretty troublesome to study at the school where your parents are teaching, huh,” said Wei Zilin with a laugh.

Xu Moyan pointed ahead again. “There’s the market, right? And there are loads of snacks there too, plus a stationary shop. I bought all the stationery I needed for school there. My classmates all live nearby, so I’d bump into them every time I went out. Now, though, everyone’s either married or working elsewhere, so I don’t see them that often anymore.”

“Were you really close to your classmates?” Wei Zilin asked with a laugh.

Xu Moyan nodded. “Actually, I’m closest to my elementary schoolmates because I went to an elementary school nearby, so everyone lived around here too. We could go out and play together, walk home from school together, and we’d bump into tons of classmates every time we went out during the summer or winter vacations. That’s why we were slightly closer. Starting from middle school, everyone began focusing on their studies, and we weren’t as tight as we used to be. As for my college friends, we all went our separate ways after graduating, so it’s much harder for us to meet again. We usually just add each other on WeChat and like each other’s posts on Moments.”

It was just past breakfast time, and there was still some time until noon. That was why only the shops were open now, whereas the food stalls had not arrived yet.

Xu Moyan led Wei Zilin around the area, bringing him to all the places she used to frequent growing up.

Just as they were about to head back, Wei Zilin received a call from Nan Jingheng.

At first, he thought that the boys were just bored and wanted to call each other for some idle chit-chat. As Wei Zilin listened to the call, however, his expression turned solemn.

Xu Moyan instinctively stopped and looked up at Wei Zilin.

After he hung up, Wei Zilin did not wait for Xu Moyan to ask. Instead, he immediately said, “Is there a cafe or something nearby?”

“Yeah.” Xu Moyan nodded and walked with Wei Zilin for about ten minutes until they reached a cafe.

The residents around here did not have a lot of spending power on average, so the cafe was not very packed either. The waiter was even sitting down, taking a break, and he only stood up to greet them lazily when the two of them walked in.

The two of them chose a corner to sit down, and Wei Zilin ordered two Americanos before he told Xu Moyan, “Nan Jingheng called earlier and said that there’s a war waging on Weibo right now. You don’t have to worry, though, because Nan Yin will handle it.”

“Weibo?” Xu Moyan picked up her phone suspiciously and tapped on the Weibo icon.

Most of the comments were still on that post where she shared the Massacre OL update announcement. In fact, there were already 10,000 comments on that post.

She clicked into the comments and saw that it was actually Mo Xiaoqing’s fans who had come to troll her Weibo page.

There was no limit to the crudeness of the language they used.

“A goddess? Hahaha! She’s clearly a slut, a whore who used her c*nt to get her job.”

“Is it that fun, stealing someone else’s job?”

“Hmph, if Yu Linling fell for a cunning slut like you, I guess he ain’t all that either.”

“Who knows what kind of a deal Silent Words and Yu Linling made.”

“I’m just here for the lols. Y’all are a mess.”

“Looks like there are hidden rules everywhere.”

It seemed that aside from Mo Xiaoqing’s fans, there were also some keyboard warriors who had nothing better to do than to fan the flames.

If it was just Mo Xiaoqing’s fans, Xu Moyan would not be too concerned.

After all, she had more fans than Mo Xiaoqing. The voice acting scene was a bit of a niche, and Mo Xiaoqing was a commercial voice actor, so she probably had fewer followers on Weibo than most Internet voice actors.

The only problem was that this had somehow attracted a bunch of other netizens who were swayed by the comments. Once they joined the fray, her followers were no longer any match for them.

At first, they could still argue with Mo Xiaoqing’s fans, but those with some dignity could not possibly beat the shameless ones in a flame war. There might be some dedicated trolls hiding amongst Mo Xiaoqing’s fans too, because they resorted to especially crude language, bringing in her body parts or her family members at the slightest drop of a hat.

In the beginning, many of her fans tried to talk reason, but they could not stand such swearing, so they eventually decided to give up trying to reason with the trolls.

Instead, they would just key in a long comment, spamming it furiously.

Her fans even said, “This is too much! It’s wonderful that our Goddess got together with Great Lord Yu Linling, and we all wished them the best. But there are those green-eyed monsters who just gotta make themselves heard!”

Thankfully, the commotion reached Yu Linling’s fans as well.

If Mo Xiaoqing’s fans only scolded Xu Moyan, Yu Linling’s fans might not react too agitatedly. After all, to Yu Linling’s fans, Xu Moyan was the woman who had stolen her husband. If they blessed the relationship, it was only because they wanted their idol to be happy.

As for Xu Moyan getting surrounded and trolled, they really would not help as long as their idol was not involved.

The problem was Mo Xiaoqing’s fans had a screw loose. It was one thing that they flamed Xu Moyan, but it was another thing that they got carried away and started flaming Yu Linling too.

There was no way Yu Linling’s fans could let that slide, so they jumped right into the flame war too.

The comment section of Xu Moyan’s Weibo post was now a scene of utter chaos.

She did not have as many fans as Wei Zilin, so they did not have much of a presence in the war. Soon, their voices were drowned out by the others.

Xu Moyan checked her mentions. All of it was just Mo Xiaoqing’s fans flaming her and then adding her.

To her, these fans really had too much time on their hands. She had no idea what they were thinking.

Just then, Wei Zilin hung up as well. He had made a call to Lu Lixin just now, asking the latter to go to Nan Yin immediately, so they could discuss the way to settle this PR crisis with Nan Yin.

He chose Lu Lixin because Zheng Yuntong was in the latter’s team. As Xu Moyan’s friend, Zheng Yuntong would definitely do everything in her power to solve this.

“How’d it get so big?” Xu Moyan said with a frown. Just then, the waiter brought their two cups of coffee, so she paused and waited for the waiter to leave before she continued, “The day before yesterday, I did notice some of Mo Xiaoqing’s fans causing a ruckus, saying I stole her job. But it wasn’t too serious, so I didn’t think anything of it.”

Xu Moyan frowned and took a sip of coffee. “Why’d it suddenly blow up like this?”

“Because Mo Xiaoqing posted something on Weibo,” Wei Zilin said. Picking up his phone and turning on Weibo, he searched around for a bit and then showed Xu Moyan a few pictures. They were all screenshots from Mo Xiaoqing’s Weibo.

One of them was from a month ago.

Mo Xiaoqing: “If Qing Siyu is in Massacre OL, I’d be more than willing to voice her, so that Qing Siyu and Qi Shaofeng can pick up where they left off.”
