"I've waited a long time for that." Torie said, blushing.

"Sorry I couldn't come sooner." Etrius said. "Work just kept piling up."

"Are you still understaffed?" She asked.

"No but those damn witch hunters can't go a day without causing some sort of trouble." It sighed. "The knights keep calling us in to do their job for them."

"It must have been rough…." She said resting her head against its chest. "You know, I thought that something might have been up when I didn't get any new letters from you. To think you would get transferred out here?"

"Now I get to spend vacations and work days with you." It joked.

"Oh don't even think about slacking off in your job. Don't give them a reason to recall you."

"Don't plan on it."

The two stood together, embraced in silence. Separating ever so slightly, the two once more looked into each others eyes. For how long they did so, they didn't know, only enjoying the moment.

"I missed you my darling." Torie smiled.

"I missed you my love." Etrius replied in kind.

Coming together for another kiss, they held each other closer than before. Spinning, Etrius lifted her off her feet, Torie let out a giggle.

"My my darling, look at you getting all excited." She said. "If I didn't know any better, I would think you were drunk off of me."

"That's a weird way to describe how much I love you." It said.

"But it's true, is it not?" She asked.

"Of course it is. I love you more than anything in the world."

"I guarantee that I love you more."

"Bold words for someone in kissing range."

"Oh you!"

Once more the two kissed. After a moment, Torie separated and placed a hand on Etrius' cheek.

"Now, let's restrain ourselves." She said.

"Right, right." Etrius said. "It's been so long."

"Indeed." She sighed.

Stepping away, she gave Etrius a good look and frowned.

"You're still dressing like that?" She asked.

"And what's wrong with how I dress?" It asked.

"We both know that you can look much better than that. That isn't even the rangers uniform."

"Yeah, well its good for travel. Keeps the rain off and random animals walk up to you looking for food."

"When you say random animals, you don't mean stray cats, do you?"

"It was some dogs."

"Dogs?"

"Large dogs."

"Darling."

"Okay, it was a pack of wolves."

"As long as they don't cause trouble."
"They won't."

"Yes, well your outfit aside, how do I look?"

Showing herself off, Torie struck several poses and even gave a little twirl. However, with or without this display, Etrius' answer remained the same.

"Beautiful." Etrius said without a moment of delay.

"You say that all the time." She smiled.

"Because it's always true." It answered.

"Well, I'll keep that in mind." She said. "Regardless, there is so much that I want to discuss with you, however I don't believe that this is the appropriate place."

"Perhaps over dinner?" It asked.

"If our schedules allow it." She nodded.

"I'm sure there'll be room." Etrius said.

Slowly, the gray world had its color returned to it. The birds that were once frozen, continued on their path and the falling leaves landed on the ground. Outside the door, there was the sound of nearing footsteps. With the two separated, Torie put back on her business face and Etrius its hood. The door opened with the two a respectful distance from one another. Zen held a bundle of papers in her hand, but did not make an attempt to pass them along.

"Unfortunately none of these have any mention of any budget on them." Zen said.

"Is that so?" Torie asked. "In that case you'll have to come to the manner so we can discuss this further."

"If that's what's required, so be it." Etrius said. "When the time comes I'll impose upon you."

"I will have to check in on my schedule for an available time." She said. "Until then, I suppose this covered everything?"

"I believe it does." It nodded.

"In that case, I suppose we should call it for today." She said.

"Then I shall take my leave." It said.

"Yes, and Ranger Washington. Welcome to Crasmere." She said, holding out her hand. "It'll be a pleasure to work with you."

"And with you." It said, shaking her hand.

The two smiled at each other, until finally Etrius took its leave. Watching it go, Torie let out a small sigh.

"Good work today." Zen said. "As far as concerns of the ranger, news should start to spread and any alarm she caused should go away in the next couple of days. Policy wise, I don't believe that we need to change anything. Though as always, I'm not looking forward to the paperwork."

"I'm not sure anyone is." She said. "But enough of that for now, let's head back to the manor. If possible I would like to call it an early night."

"Of course." Zen bowed slightly. "Give me one moment to have the carriage brought around."

Nodding, Torie watched Zen leave and listened to her footsteps grow distant. Glancing out the room's sole window, she saw a shadow move along the road. She waved and, although she couldn't see it, she was sure that it smiled.
