The jostling woke her into complete darkness filled with fruity scents. Her head throbbed and she groaned before realizing her wrists were bound behind her back. Then everything came back to her…
Did I pass out?! Where am I? she thought in alarm and recalled climbing into a merchant wagon to hide.
And now, it was moving!
The vehicle she had sought shelter rocked back and forth as it traveled at an unhurried pace. Male voices chattered in a distance, too faint for her to understand.
“Fuck! What now? Think!” Merille grumbled, then took a deep breath to calm her nerves. Sweet scent of produce masked out the lingering stench of cum on her flesh, making it easier to overcome the needy urges.
Now that she had also rested for a bit, her mind cleared up somewhat. Let’s assess the situation first! Everything isn't that bad right now. Tension eased from her shoulders after the second inhale.
At least she was getting away from Todd. If the wagon had not moved from behind his apartment, he would have searched it once he returned to the room and found her missing. It was a good thing that these merchants took off when they did.
She did not know how long she was out and where they were heading. But that was the least of her problems right now. Right now, she must get out of here.
Luck was on her side when those merchants left Faircross without discovering her huddling amongst their goods. Cutting her loose and giving her something to wear was probably the furthest thing they would do to a naked and helpless woman.
Definitely not her. Not this time. She had already been too lucky to have escaped the Diamond Dagger with only trampled pride. They could have done far worse and turned her into a docile fuck-hole for the rest of her life.
I might not have regained my senses if not for that nightmare She grimaced. The irony nearly made her burst into laughter since that frightful event was the beginning of her spiral into this cock-craving whore in the first place.
Merille felt as if she had over spent her fortune after accidentally hitching a ride out of Faircross and escaped Todd’s recapture. She was not going to meet a pair of kind merchants who would not take advantage of her vulnerability.
Everyone for themselves. That was the reality of the world she lived in and hoping for a miracle would always end in disappointment.
A grunt escaped her lips as she tried to get up before the sound of galloping hooves closed in and passed the wagon. Horses neighed deafeningly as the vehicle jerked to a sudden halt a heartbeat later, causing her to collapse back down.
“What the…?!” an unfamiliar voice bellowed.
“What are you trying to do? Kill yourself?!” another angry shout followed.
A new voice said something but it was too faint for her to make out. Then there were hurried steps coming to the side of the wagon.
“What do you want?!” one of the merchants demanded, before the vehicle rocked when he jumped off and landed with a soft, muffled thud.
“Th-There was a woman,” a nasally voice stuttered, sending an icy dread down her back. “Did you see a woman? Black hair, purple eyes. Is she hiding in here?!” Todd said in panic.
“What woman? Are you fucking high, asshole?!”
“Now. Now. Let’s not be hasty here people,” a deep smooth voice soothed.
So you stayed. How much more did he pay you, Cedrick? she thought, hating that he was making profit out of her predicament but also admiring him for being able to milk more money from the job broker at the same time.
“We’re looking for a woman, you see. Black hair, purple eyes, slender, and quite a looker. You know, the type that will make you turn your head just to have a good look at her,” the mercenary said.
Even in his casual tone, Cedrick could still intimidate people with his size. The large sword on his back was also a threat in and of itself. There was no way those merchants would dare refuse if he asked to examine their cargo.
“And what does that have got anything to do with us?” the merchant asked, frustration thick in his voice.
“Well, she owes my friend here some money and when we were going to collect it, she ran,” he explained. “She was staying near where your wagon was parked so we thought she might have been hiding amongst your goods.”
“There were so many houses and alleys in that area. Why would she be hiding in our wagon?”
“Come now, I’m sure you don’t want trouble and I don’t want to cause you any myself. We’ll just have a look inside and be on our way.” The edge in his voice would have made even seasoned mercenaries shudder.
If the merchants were smart, they would let him do as he pleased. Most traveling merchants were normally stocky and masculine since they had to load and unload the goods themselves. But powerful muscles did not make good fighters.
They were undoubtedly no match for the towering merc even if they attacked him together. She was certain Cedrick could take both of them out bare-handed.
A long moment passed without anyone saying a word. The sound of her hammering heart filled the haunting silence as she waited with growing dread.
“Alright! But please be careful of the goods. They are very delicate and we have a long road ahead of us,” the merchant finally said.
“You have my word,” the merc promised and she could almost hear the pearly smile in his voice.
Sweat beaded her forehead as the sound of footfalls moved toward the back of the vehicle. She had managed to squeeze herself between two large crates. There was a good chance that on one would notice her right away after the tarp was opened.

I may be able to make a break for it…Or ambush him when he comes by. She tried to rile herself up for a fight, but the odds were stacked impossibly high against her.
Unless the towering merc tripped and fell on his own sword, there was simply no way for her to defeat him half exhausted with her hands tied behind her back. Beyond that, she still had to face Todd.
The job broker did not stand a chance against her even in this state but he could always pay the merchants to help him out. It was just not going to happen no matter how optimistic she looked at it.
Fuck! Is this it?! She growled, trying to pull her arms free in frustration but wasted her energy in vain instead.
The tarp flew open with a loud swish and Merille winced in reflex. Then she blinked in confusion when the interior of the wagon remained pitch black. Light should have flooded her surroundings even if it was still early in the morning.
What’s going on? Are they in a different wagon? She turned her gaze left and right but could not see anything.
“So you’re fruit merchants. No wonder it smells so nice around here,” Cedrick said before the wagon jostled with his weight.
The petite merc bit her lip to stifle a yelp of surprise. He’s here! Fuck!
“See? There’s no one here,” the merchant called after him.
“Yup. Nothing but fruits in here,” the mercenary agreed, his steps creeping closer.
“What?! Th-That’s just not possible!” Todd bellowed.
A knock sounded from the opposite end of the wagon before a throaty voice said, “can we get moving now? We still have a long way to go and I don’t want to camp out in the forest if I can help it.”
“Check again, Cedrick! She must be in there!” the nasally voice yelled from below.
“I don’t know what to tell you, Todd. There aren't a lot of places to hide in here,” the merc said flatly.
“You owe me, Cedrick! Find her now!” the job broker ordered.
Stomps reverberated across the wagon bed and she did not have to guess who made that move. The rumbling stopped abruptly and the vessel jerked again when the large merc got off and landed heavily on the ground.
“Why don’t you go have a look for yourself?” he asked, his voice thick with annoyance.
“Wh-What?”
“If you don’t believe me, then have a look in there yourself.”
“I paid you for that! What if she’s in there and takes me as a hostage?!” the scrawny man retorted.
“Then you’ll have to take my word for it,” Cedrick said and there was a hint of satisfaction in his voice. “I would head back now if I were you. She’ll surely come for you and I’d rather prepare myself for her visit than run around cluelessly.”
“Isn’t it better to catch her now when she’s still weak?”
“Sure! But Faircross is a big town. Do you want to just wander aimlessly and walk right into her ambush?”
A long silence fell before Todd grumbled, “why do I even pay you for this?!”
“Because I’m the only one you’ve got to keep those vultures away.”
“Fine! Just don’t screw up this time!”
“Hey, I’ve been telling you to move out of that crappy apartment for ages.”
The job broker grumbled something as their voices retreated before hooves galloped away. Everything went quiet, leaving Merille in a mess of confusion and relief.
