Merille darted from crate to crate. Avoiding the guards was a simple task when they were strolling about lazily and yawning. Weapons hung loose from their hands as they trudged back and forth in the courtyard.

She crouched behind a wooden box, waiting for one of the men to pass. Her mind raced with worries when she saw the tight security within the warehouse. Not for herself but for Revinne who lacked stamina and ability to fight.

They were deep inside enemy territory and this could turn into a suicide mission if anything went wrong. Even by herself, the petite merc was not certain of her chances. Needless to say, the blonde would never make it on her own.

The thought made her jaw clench reflexively. The plan to split up was a sound idea in theory and probably their only option to succeed.

If escaping by herself was already difficult, escaping with two hostages who were certainly weak and malnourished through a courtyard swarmed with security was impossible. She needed a safe path to guide Donna and Sarah out.

To clear this exit, Revinne would create a commotion in the storage area, setting fire to Lilac shipments and drawing the guards there. With the courtyard emptied, Merille could lead the hostages out easily before circling back to take care of Kurt.

It’s a great idea only if you can pull it off, she thought, grimacing with uneasiness churning in her stomach.

If the blonde failed, they were both doomed along with the hostages they planned to save. The merc shook her head to clear the unnecessary thought. Too late for regret now! I’ve to trust that she can pull it off.

She snuck out from her hiding once the footfalls faded. A minute later, she stood in front of a small structure that looked like a tool shed or some kind of storage room on the west side of the warehouse.

According to Revinne’s information, Steele Shipping did not have a prison but she had seen men frequent this area for the past few weeks. When she asked Burk about it, he never gave her an answer and brushed it off or changed the subject entirely.

I hope you’re right about this.

Merille stalked forward, her fingers curling around the dagger at her waist. The light pouring out beneath the door gave her a glimmer of hope. She crouched low and carefully peered through the gap in the door but only saw the opposite wall.

“This is fucking boring!” a man’s rough voice boomed on the other side, startling her heart into a gallop.

“Why? We get to sit around and do nothing. How is that so bad?” another deep male voice asked.

“You don’t get it. Sitting around ain’t bad, but I want to do it already!” the first one said.

“Horny bastard,” the second man chuckled.

“You think Kurt will really let us do the girl?”

“Why not? He’s going to sell her to the brothel anyway. Why would he not give us a bit of a trial run?”

They both laughed hysterically. Heat burned in her chest as her grip tightened around the handle of her dagger. Kurt did not plan to keep his words from the beginning. He was going to get rid of Todd once the Raven was delivered.

With the authorities bribed, he would have no trouble making a small-time job broker from Faircross disappear. And with a bit of drugs, he could easily turn Donna and Sarah into sex slaves to work at the brothel. Possibly, Thirsty Daisy where he had dealings.

A lump formed in her throat as the revelation sang in. It was the way of the world. Even the renowned Raven was no different. Her disappearance meant nothing. People would eventually forget she ever existed and go on with their lives like normal.

Those with money and power could do whatever that wanted while those without groveled and struggled.

A soft whimper snapped her back to the shed. One of the men had crossed the room to the left side. His gruff voice crackled, “just you wait, girl. We’re going to have so much fun together.” The chuckles that followed were so slimy, it made her skin crawl.

Merille bristled with an urge to burst in there and take both of them out but that move might put the hostages in danger. She could not see anything in the room and a rash decision could ruin her one chance of a surprise attack.

“Fuck! I need to take a leak,” the man on the right side of the room said before he stomped toward her.

The petite merc scrambled out of the way as the door swung outward then stopped midway. “Don’t try anything stupid,” he said to the other man before turning to push the door all the way.

She pressed herself against the wall of the shed, concealing herself in darkness as a bald, stocky man strolled through the portal and into the faint silvery light of the moon. The door shut behind him as he glanced around for a spot to relieve himself.

Her pulse thrummed furiously in her ears and her fingers clenched around the dagger. She held her breath, watching his head swiveled slowly from side to side with growing anxiety.

Eventually, the large man turned away without noticing her in the shadows. He found a place at the edge of the shed and unbuckled his belt. Merille stalked after him, her blade sliding out of its sheath without a sound.

Without hesitation, she leaped on his back. One hand cramped around his mouth at the same time her dagger plunged into the side of his thick neck. His body stiffened abruptly before his muscles contracted.

Blood poured through her clenching fingers on his mouth. He teetered left and right before crumbling to the ground. Though she managed to hold back his panic cry, she could not stop the tremorous thud of his collapse.

“What was that?!” the gruff voice of the other guard perked up immediately.

Fuck! She snarled and yanked her blade out of the dead man.

Merille dashed toward the shed, red droplets dripping from her steel and fingers. Though she recalled taking only a few steps away, the distance seemed to stretch out into a mile as the door swung open.

She lunged for the man when his unkempt head poked out. His dark eyes bulged at the sight of her before his mouth snapped open to scream. With pure reflex and panic, she stabbed her dagger upward.

Yellow light from inside the shed glinted off the blade as it rammed into the man’s chin. Sharp steel sliced through his tender flesh and bone with hardly any resistance before the hilt clamped his gaping mouth shut.

Blood bubbled from the corners of his lips as his wide eyes rolled up into his skull. His body went limp a heartbeat later before tumbling to the ground. The petite merc wrenched her blade free and wiped it on his shirt.

Inside the shed, a woman with long brown-hair huddled against a girl with black-haired girl. Their arms were bound behind their backs. Their dark eyes widened with fright at the sight of her bloody blade. Fortunately, the gags kept them from screaming.

“Don’t be afraid. I’m here to help you so don’t scream or we’re all dead,” Merille said, crouching in front of the mother and child.

Donna nodded vigorously. The merc pulled off her gag and reached behind to cut her bind. She winced at the bloody bandage wrapping around her left hand. Todd was not lying when he said Kurt sent the wedding with her finger to him.

She fought down the anger and freed the hostages quickly. She would make him pay for everything later.

“Follow me. And don’t make a sound, understand?” Merille looked at them in turn before leading them out the door.

A plume of smoke was visible in the night sky. Shouts and alarms rang out across the warehouse as men scurried about in hurried panic. The courtyard was emptied of guards when she emerged from the shed.

Crystals! She pulled it off!

The burning grew more intense and more shouts bellowed. The flame licked so high that the pitch black sky turned reddish-yellow. With the guards occupied by the fire, she would have no trouble getting to Kurt.

Just you wa—

A whiff of sweet scent and wood smoke filled her nostrils, triggering a sudden surge of desire. Her knees wobbled as heat swelled within her core. Her vision swam and forced the merc to brace a hand on the crate to steady herself.

“Are you okay?” Donna asked, stopping a few steps in front of her.

The petite merc gulped and pushed down the rising need between her legs as best she could. “I-I’m fine. J-Just go. There’s…There’s a hole in the wall…up ahead. Y-You can escape through there,” she sputtered before waving urgently at the woman.

“You’re not coming?”

She shook her head. Sweat beaded her forehead from the strain to keep a coherent thought. “N-No, I’ve got something else to take care…” A shudder rushed up her spine and nearly drained all the strength from her body.

“Go!” the merc ordered.

Donna turned away reluctantly to grab her daughter’s hand. She took another step before glancing over her shoulder at Merille, her brows creased with concern.

“H-Hurry up! We don’t have much time!”

With a sharp nod of her head, the brown-haired woman scurried off and pulled Sarah along at a brisk pace. They quickly disappeared into the darkness.

What is this sweet smell? Is it Lilac? And why am I having a Lapse right now?! Merille grounded her teeth, trying her best to focus amidst the torrent of depraved cravings flooding her mind.

Her nipples ached painfully against the tiny breastplate while wetness seeped between her folds. She trudged toward the building but each step rubbed her swollen clit against the soft fabric of her panties, sending jolt after jolt of agonizing pleasure through her.

The large double door of the warehouse burst open. The petite merc ducked reflexively as two towering men trotted out, followed by a lean man with short black hair. He wore black clothing beneath a burgundy vest. A thick gold necklace bounced against his chest as he rushed along.

Kurt Steele! She snarled. Though she never met the man, the fine clothing and jewelry were enough to identify the owner of Steele Shipping.

The flame had dwindled and the sky slowly regained its deep black as Merille snuck behind the three men toward the storage area. The commotion had died down once the guards had the fire under control.

A part of her knew the assassination was over and she needed to leave Steele Shipping as soon as she could. Kurt was well-protected with bodyguards at his side. The distraction was gone. And she was having a Lapse which rendered her useless in a fight.

There was no possible way for her to succeed in killing the drug lord at this point. But she could not leave without confirming Revinne’s safety. Hopefully, the blonde had escaped as they planned and on her way to the main building.

“What the fuck happened?!” Kurt bellowed at the gathered men and the plume of smoke turned from black to white and fading.

“Th-There was a fire, s-sir!”

“I can fucking see that, idiot! I want to know how it happened?!”

“This bitch caused it!” one of the men said before dragging a blond-haired woman by her hair from behind the crowd. A crack streaked across one lens of her black-rim glasses and blood trickled down a corner of her mouth.

Her violet gaze went wide with panic as her stomach churned. The man slammed Revinne down on the ground at Kurt’s feet.
