During the time I blacked out, I had a dream.
Everything was dark and the only source of light I could see was a single speck of light so high above.
It was damp, cramped, and somehow… comforting. It was a home only for me.
I felt like I had just been born, but at the same time, I also knew it wasn’t the case.
Then I heard footsteps incoming, followed by a monologue from a man in his late 60s.
“O’ Well of Knowledge, I wish upon thee. Lend me thy wisdom, and this I shalt protect the tree of Yggdrasil for all eternity.”
At first, there was no response. But after a few moments, everything around me shook. I wasn’t scared but more irritated. Why is he disturbing my sleep?
Strangely enough, there was another voice replying to him after the shake ended. The voice was so hoarse and raspy, and in a way or another, I knew it was my ‘home’ that spoke.
“Ya really camest ‘ere, aye? Do tellst me, o’ Wise God. Why dost ye wanst my wisdom? Ain’t yer own enuf alr’dy?”
I came to realize that my ‘home’ was called ‘the Well of Knowledge’ and the man was ‘the Wise God’. This myth is unfamiliar to me and why am I in the bottom of the well? No, why am I even seeing this dream in the first place?
“Thou shalt know the universe is nearing its demise. Lest I do something about it, all lives will cease to exist.” the Wise God said in a sad, worried tone.
“Since when have ya cared ‘bout the universe? All ya couldst think is yerself, ain’t it?”
“... Do we really need to go to such lengths? We have no time to spare!”
The Wise God’s tone changed. He was angry.
“Fiiiine. So, what’s yer sacrifice? Dost ye thinkst ‘tis free? Nah! Errythin comest with a price, ain’t ye know that?”
“Clearly.”
The conversation paused for a brief moment and continued after the Wise God murmured, as if trying not to be heard by anyone else except the Well and himself.
“These are my sacrifices.”
He seemed to show the Well something. Too bad I couldn’t see it, albeit this thirst for knowledge of mine was barking like there’s no tomorrow.
“Ye sure ‘bout this?”
“I am. This certain world is no longer under my jurisdiction. That old serpent has taken this as its own.”
After hearing that remark, I felt the sudden urge to pounce on that god’s head. I don’t know why.
“Ain’t ya more fucked up than usual? Haha! But I likest ye!”
“Just… call it an investment for the greater good.”
“Wicked to the core as always, o’ Allfather.”
***
“Urgh…”
Grunting hoarsely, I opened my eyelids just to let the sunlight pierce my eyes directly. In that instant, I realized I was lying down on my bed just because of me recognizing how exquisite the room I had to stay in was; albeit I had only slept here once; twice if this one was included.
My body felt so light for some reason and as I rose up, the wounds and scratches were no longer there. What happened?
After exerting my body beyond its limits in the death battle against Orinda, it should be nearly impossible to be fixed. And yet here I am, feeling so bizarrely refreshed and light as if the fight had never taken place at all.
My senses could still detect and perceive the flow of mana around me, and when I tried to focus, the churning sensation in my solar plexus was much, much stronger than before; it was almost burning, even.
I lifted my hands with the intention of condensing pure mana around me into a small ball and what appeared was a gigantic sphere the size of an airplane’s tire. I almost panicked and released it to my surroundings bit by bit.
Feeling so suspicious, I decided to summon my status and my eyes widened at how drastic it changed.
The first one was the sudden level up of [Elemental Extremity], [Magic Extremity], and [Vitality]. All were level 2 and I didn’t know when it happened. The first two should be the reason why my mana control and absorption became so strong all of the sudden. And as for the [Vitality], it should amplify my toughness by a large margin.
All my plans to lay low were ruined just by this upgrade existing. I should think of another method to let myself escape from the burden of being the Prophetess and achieve my goal; living a normal life as a normal person.
The next was the disappearance of [Níðhǫggr’s Hunger Aura]. Replacing it, there was another Unique Trait that I didn’t recognize there. It was [Níðhǫggr’s Exalted Presence].
With millions of questions in my brain, I decided to see its detailed information as it stated:
[Níðhǫggr’s Exalted Presence]
[Níðhǫggr’s existence is thick in your blood. As the Prophetess, you are granted double the Essences as you return more spawns of Yggdrasil.]
[While still keeping the old bonuses and enhancing the effects, a new system where you can use the Essences to level up your skills will be given accordingly.]
Spawns of Yggdrasil, huh? Now that I think about it, I still have the transparent orb Risa gave me after she killed that man. Is it referring to that?
I slid my right hand under my pillow and the orb was still there. Instinctively, I tightened my grip on it and when I realized it, the orb vanished into specks of light right in front of my face. Another popped up notification followed suit.
[Congratulations! You have successfully returned a spawn of Yggdrasil back to where it belonged.]
[You are rewarded with 2 Essences.]
[Due to you being the Níðhǫggr’s Prophetess, the Essences you gained will be doubled.]
[You are rewarded with 4 Essences.]

Now I understand what Risa tried to say to me when she handed me the orb… I was supposed to crunch it since that is my job as the Prophetess.
Judging from her exerting so much energy to just crack this thing open and the fact that it was easily destroyed by me, the possibility is high that only I can do this.
Now, how about using the Essences I have gained? But to which skill?
I contemplated with myself while pondering on where to invest the Essences. In the end, I stuck to my original plan; leveling up the eyes as it would provide me with more information.
[You have spent 4 Essences on the Skill: [Discerning Eyes of the Serpent].]
[Congratulations! The Skill: [Discerning Eyes of the Serpent] has reached Lv. 5.]
[Essence in possession: 0]
[Essence usage required for bonus skill: 6]
Taking that into my account, spending the Essence would also give me a bonus skill. Most likely, it would be randomized, and in the best case scenario, I would be granted the chance to choose at will.
Let’s silently hope that it is the case.
Still, the appearance of this new system changed everything. I didn’t need to use my skills repeatedly to level them up. It was more efficient and not as time-consuming as I had expected.
Additionally, it would be possible for me to gain skills from the bonus that could control others and make them do all the jobs while I do whatever I want.
Embarking on a long journey, for example.
Yes, let’s aim for that.
I was still drowning in a lot of possibilities inside my brain, until I heard my door being knocked three times.
“Elise? Are you awake?”
It was Risa’s voice that echoed to my room and after checking if I was dressed properly, in which I was outfitted in the same white dress from before, I replied. The hole in the chest area is no longer there, though.
“I am awake. Come in.”
“Don’t mind me if I do, then…”
The door immediately opened with the key being unlocked, and the figure of a fit girl with bright purple eyes walked in. She was bringing a tray with a bowl filled with some kind of porridge. The smell was delicious, and for some reason, my stomach craved it so badly.
“May I sit here?” Risa asked once she reached the side of my bed.
I only nodded and folded my feet to give her some space. Before long, she sat so close to me, ignoring the space I had given her near my feet. It was a strange occurrence. Has Risa always been this talkative and clingy all this time?
“Be careful,” she handed the bowl over to me. “It’s still hot.”
Dumbfounded, I only stared deeply into her eyes, clearly not expecting to be treated this way by her. Her eyes twitched a little when I did that, and she quickly focused her gaze on the porridge.
“Oh right. You must be concerned whether there’s poison in your food or not, right?”
Swiftly, she scooped a spoonful of porridge and cooled it down by blowing on it. Once it no longer oozed out steam, she shoved it into her mouth and swallowed.
After a few moments, she raised her face and smiled, “See? There’s no poison in your food.”
I then double-checked it by using my serpent eyes on the porridge. That was just normal food.
In the meantime, I also used my eyes on her and her status was as follows:
[Name:] Risa (F)
[Race:] Human
[Age:] 14
[Job:] Championess
[Status:] Alive; Charmed, Obsessed
[Innate Talents:] Vitality Lv. 10, Foul Feeder Lv. 7, Tracking Lv. 10]
[Skills:] [Unlocks when the [Discerning Eyes of the Serpent] reaches Lv. 7]
[Unique Traits:] Reincarnator from Another World, Blessed by Níðhǫggr
Championess? Is it similar to the brave in my world? So more like the Jack of All Trades? And… ‘Charmed’ and ‘Obsessed’ abnormal statuses? Charmed over what? Obsessed with what?
One thing for sure, I knew she possessed the shield thingy so it must be lying somewhere around in her skills since I couldn’t see it anywhere among the unlocked information. Nevertheless, just from the talents she possessed, Risa was kind of… weak. I had expected to see some ridiculous things after seeing how beautiful and refined her swordsmanship was but that wasn’t the case. Perhaps her strength lies somewhere entirely else.
In the end, I slowly gobbled the whole porridge with Risa smiling wide from ear to ear while this strange nostalgic feeling kept bonking on my conscience over and over again. What’s with that, really?
And once I was done, Risa insisted that I reeked of sweat and must take a bath as soon as possible. She told me that someone wanted to meet me in the training grounds.
As for the story where she wanted to join in my alone bathing session, that’s for another time.
