"Okay, well, first, how many undead birds were there?" Mom asks as she runs over to the kitchen and whips open the refrigerator door.
She takes out a few eggs the size of her fist and throws them onto the counter.
Regular eggs would've splattered, but these eggs didn't even crack.
"The usual amount…." I reply, sitting down on the white, wooden chair lined with different gems.
I sighed and sunk into my chair, feeling exhaustion rush through my body as if it was adrenaline.
"Don't worry… Today is a rest day," Mom says.
"I know," I reply, glancing at Mia, who was strangely interested in Ethel's clothing brand.
To be honest, none of the clothes she made fit my taste as it was designer rather than street or tech wear.
Suddenly, Ethel sighed so loud it echoed through the room.
"What's wrong?" Mom asks, cracking the eggs into a metal bowl before whisking them.
"Shit… Ummmmm… They asked if I could give them some pictures of models with the clothes on… but I don't have any…"
"Who asked?"
Nuala spun behind Ethels chair and rested her chin atop her head.
"The people who sell all the designer brands,"
"Do you even know the name of the store?"
"Yeah, 'Nobility,'"
"*whistle* Damn, that's a pretty big store. Not the biggest, but it's pretty good for somebody who hasn't had a single model on their website yet… Are you sure they aren't trying to scam you?"
"They would never,"
"How do you know that?" Nuala asks, massaging Ethel's triceps.
"Well, they already announced it on their social media that they'll be selling my clothes in their store… They can't go back on their word now,"
"Oh… I see,"
Just as Ethel finished explaining everything to Nuala, Mom had finished making scrambled eggs enough to feed all of us.
First, Sophia sat down in her chair without any help.
She had mastered the art of seeing without your eyes. In fact, her perception and awareness of the space around herself is much higher than any of us now.
Sneak attacks even by Charna are impossible.
It was a bit disappointing, but I didn't feel bad for her… That her confession was rejected.
Some things just aren't meant to be, but this also allowed me to realize how lucky I was to find someone I loved who loved me back.
I bet Sophia saw her as somewhat a big sister or really close friend… But once she confessed, and a gap opened up in between their relationship.
You could easily tell they felt awkward around each other, which is why they began to slowly drift apart, even to the point where they are just strangers to each other now.
"Ethel, when are you going to find a girlfriend?" I ask the blue-haired girl sitting beside me.
Her eyes showed apparent exhaustion, but excitement hid behind them due to the good news she had just received.
Multiple new responsibilities had piled on top of her, but she was having fun… but I didn't like it.
She was clearly running away from her past.
She's probably trying to convince herself that she's moving on, but all I see is a little girl running away from her trauma.
"I don't know… I haven't had a crush my entire life anyway," She replies.
"Cause everybody seems so happy with one. It is also a nice challenge in life,"
My eyes grew cold for a second, but Mom noticed this, so she instantly shot me a glare.
"*sigh*... 'kay," I reply bluntly before finishing up my eggs and heading down the hall.
Mom followed after while making sure none of the girls would follow.
"It's annoying," I mutter.
"It's her decision,"
"I know it is… But I can't help but be annoyed… I want to punch her in the face,"
"You do know she's still struggling, right?"
"Yes… That's why it's annoying,"
"I see," Mom says, nodding her head in approval.
Viles, tubes, a hospital operating table, and finally, a large glass tube that was filled with a green liquid.
Upon stepping on the hard tiled floor, I stripped my clothes and took off the bandage wrapped around my green feathers.
I then climbed up the metal ladder on the side of the large glass tube.
"Wait, a sec," Mom says, hopping on the computer at the very middle of the room.
It was on a desk with various other equipment.
Once the screen turned on, the green liquid shifted into a dark green color which was a signal for me to hop into the tube.
It was sticky on my skin, and it was thicker than water but not thicker than blood.
Once my head went under, I breathed in the liquid which filled my lungs with oxygen, and I felt my consciousness fade almost instantly.
…
An intense stinging pain could be felt on my back, causing me to jump in fright, but each time mom stroked my hair, I felt much calmer than before.
"It's okay… We're almost done… Almost done,"
Her voice was sweet and soothing, like honey on a sore throat.
I closed my eyes, and once I opened them, I was lying on the operating table, my back against the cold surface.
"You did great," Mom says, kissing me on the forehead.
But I didn't smile.
Why was all this necessary? Wasn't the process supposed to quick and easy… Well, that's what mom and the other Braves initially thought… Until they tried poking my skin with a needle to try and get blood and tried to take one of the feathers from my back.
First, the needle couldn't even scratch my skin, and second, the feathers on my back were harder than metal, and ripping them from my skin caused excessive bleeding.
It didn't hurt when they first plucked it, but I soon felt faint due to me losing gallons of blood… Or that's what it felt like, at least.
"Mom, when can we go back to the outside world?"
"Tomorrow,"
"Wait! Really!?" I shout, sitting up instantly, causing a wave of pain to rush up my back and down my ċhėst.
"Calm down… I wanted to make it a surprise for the other girls, so keep quiet," Mom says, raising her finger over her lips, making a hushing motion.
She then walked over to me and wrapped a large white bandage around my ċhėst and back.
"Yes!" I shouted, my eyes brimming with excitement.
I swung my legs childishly as they hung from the operating table.
I quickly changed into my clothes and ran towards the training room as it seemed as if all the exhaustion from before wasn't present in my body anymore.
Motivation filled my mind, so I first started on the rock wall which I climbed using only my upper body, ċhėst, and core.
It was a good workout for all those specific muscles and my grip strength, which… uhhhh… I don't know when I'd need it, but Mom said it would be helpful later on.
