I swallowed another dose of medicine from the bottle I tightly gripped in my right hand.
My blurry vision returned to normal, but a man cloaked in darkness waited in front of me, to my surprise.
Tch
Bzzzt Bzzzt
Lightning crackled in my hand, and I shaped it into a spear that I through directly at the shadow.
It hit the target directly on, but I knew the man was bait… I mean… This was the famous Write family, after all.
…
(Lucy POV)
The lights suddenly flickered off, cutting Mia's sentence in half.
"What the hell," Nell mutters, going to go check the light switch as this was her house… well, Nell's and Astra's.
Astra followed behind her, but suddenly, hundreds of shadows entered the room, and their bloodlust was so savage it felt as if I was facing the T-rex-like monster from before.
SHING
There was no handle grip on it, and there wasn't even a handle guard.
I was surprised as it was like the skeleton of a katana due to its missing parts.
"RUN!" Mia shouts, immediately noticing how outnumbered we were, but she didn't need to comment as we were already making our way towards the exit.
Astra and Nell bȧrėly managed to duck the metal katanas aimed directly at their vital organs.
Another wave of katanas came flying towards all of us, but Mia burned them instantly with her blue flames.
But even more, katanas came out of the blue flames just as they died down.
The ȧssassins made use of the residual smoke by making it a smokescreen that let them create another attack that would've killed us if we didn't just bȧrėly make it through the door.
"Where the hell are the guards?" Astra mutters.
They're probably dead…
"These guys…" Astra mutters, realizing the same thing everybody else had.
They managed to slip past everybody in the mansion, including the highly trained guards that weren't short of weak.
In fact, each one present might've been about ⅓ of my actual strength.
I don't know if I should help out. I feel like I'll get in the way, so I might just sit this out… but these piling guard corpses are a feast.
Slowly, I closed my eyes while running down the long hallway.
The feeling of something connecting could be suddenly felt. It was as if multiple wires had been sewn into my brain in an instant.
[Necromancy]
BAM
I ran into a wall.
"L-Lucy, watch where you're going," Mia says, patting the now growing bump on my forehead.
My defense is 139… How the hell did a wall damage me.
We were escorted all the way to the entrance and to the road, which was crawling with prominent families and their guards.
Suddenly, we all received a message on our phones that made our eyes widen in shock.
Tsk
The Write family had gone on a genocide, killing every member of any big family.
Brollet, Porter, Balthasar, Bloodriver, and of course… Lachnes.
Everybody's faces had melted into a flurry of messed-up emotions.
Some were panicking, some feared losing any family members, and some were just thinking ahead.
But strangely, Mia was completely calm, in fact, I noticed a smirk that I remembered and shoved to the back of my brain.
"Anyway, what are we doing now?" I ask the unstable girls while we were still surrounded by guards.
These guys are too close.
"Can you give us some space if you're not going to comfort them?"
The guards glared at me but I just glared back, causing them to shrink back a bit. The space they gave the young mistress's was minimal, but it was enough.
"I-I need to check on my mom," Ethel says.
"I need to check on my uncle… I need to see if he's still alive," Clio says.
Everybody began to pour out their worries and it didn't stop.
FWOOSH
Suddenly, a blast of wind erupted from the Bloodriver house.
It had traces of dark green as it settled on the courtyard surrounding the mansion.
It seems they're done.
An army of skeletons held together by dark green flames exited the mansion in a disorderly fashion but nobody seemed to notice as all their attention was on the ȧssassin corpses they threw towards me.
It looked as if they were just tossing them away, but I could feel their souls staring at me.
I just ignored them…
"A necromancer? There was a necromancer?" Mia mutters to herself, scanning the group of guards who were just as clueless as her.
A loud sound rang through the air as if it was a sonic boom.
I flinched slightly due to my enhanced senses enhancing the already annoying loud sound that seemed to come from the center of New York.
"A state of emergency has been declared!" A robotic voice shouts.
Everybody's hearts seemed to drop.
The damage we hoped was nothing special seemed to have gone too far… so far that they'd actually declare a state of emergency.
Isn't that only supposed to be used for natural disasters?
"Everyone, please gather your loved ones and either take shelter in your home or leave the city immediately otherwise you will be killed!" The robotic voice says loudly, but bluntly.
I swallowed a gulp of saliva as the beeping continued but the robotic voice disappeared.
They're not even giving a reason.
"We have to leave," I speak up first as the entire group around me was dead silent.
"N-no, my mother-" Astra responds, tears welling up in her eyes.
Ah… So they can feel worried enough for their family members… I guess they're only human.
"Has she called you?" I reply.
"N-no,"
"Then what makes you think she's still alive,"
Her face went pale.
There were two options… Either her mom is dead or she abandoned her…
I was able to come to these two options by seeing just how many guards there are surrounding us with eyes filled to the brim with loyalty.
It might've been clouded with worry, but that worry was directed at their Mistress and young mistress.
"Lucy, don't be too mean," Mia says.
"I'm just being realistic,"
Suddenly, one of us got a call as their ringtone had gone off.
Aria slowly pulls out her pen phone before showing the holographic screen that displayed one word…
"Mother?" Aria asks after answering the call.
"A-Aria! Run! LEAVE!"
Aria's face had gone pale as the swinging of a sword could be heard audibly.
Beep
The call had been cut off and tears ran down Aria's face.
Amanda hugged her tightly with tears welling up in her eyes as well, but she seemed to keep them in, putting on a brave front for her cousin.
"Well, what do we do now?" Charna asks.
"Activate the necklace," I reply without any hesitation.
VWOOP
My stomach turned and my vision whirled as I appeared in our base which was freezing.
I couldn't help but shiver as I crawled onto our newly bought couch and wrapped myself in tons of blankets.
After a few minutes of waiting, all of Tolf was curled up on our couch, taking shelter from the heat just outside our blankets.
It was pretty funny, cheering up some of the members, but there were also some who balled their eyes out after receiving a message from what seemed to be the government that their family had been wiped out.
Mia on the other hand seemed like she didn't care.
"Want to know why it looks like I don't care?" Mia asks as if she had completely read my mind.
"It's up to you… I don't want to pry," I reply.
"Nah, it's fine, I'll tell you,"
I felt a bit bad using the push and pull technique but this topic has been edging me for quite a while and my curiosity couldn't be contained.
"I hate my family,"
Figured.
"I hate them for a multitude of reasons. They have worked together with monsters from the Monster Paradise… And finally, their methods of training are disgusting," Mia says with cold eyes that sent a shiver down my spine.
"What are the methods?" Celestine asks.
"Did I ever tell you how I have hyperthymesia?" Mia asks.
"I think so," Aria responds.
Her eyes were still red from crying so much.
"Well, if you didn't, now you do…. This basically means I remember things from my childhood that my family expected me to forget,"
Ah, I see where this is going…
"The fan jellyfish jelly that we took that allowed us to have this hivemind is used in a much brutal way. It is also used amongst 500, instead of twelve,"
Our jaws dropped after hearing this.
500…
"Yeah. They make quote-on-quote loyal ȧssassins but in reality, they're just brainwashed into thinking we're their saviors. The training they go through repeatedly torchers their bodies and mind, strengthening themselves as a whole,"
"Isn't that just like normal training?" Electra asks as Mia's face goes pale.
"Is cutting off someone's arm and then healing it back on normal?"
