Chapter 1: Prologue

Since time immemorial, there have existed beings that have transcended our understanding; as far as we humans are concerned, they have always existed. Since we didn't understand them, we did what humans do best we portrayed them in ways we could understand. When the gods witnessed how we worshiped them, they became amused, as humans might consider ants as insignificant and treat them like entertainment gods do the same thing we do, so they decided to create a little game, a trial of sorts, those who pass it will become gods as well. When humans found out, chaos ensued; children were brutally slaughtered as it had become a symbol of good fortune. Humans ultimately devolved into a warmongering species obsessed with ritualistic sacrifices to appease their gods and bless them with luck, so they can better the prospects of becoming gods. Eons have passed since then, and the race to godhood is perishing, as they ultimately omitted what they were clashing for. So, it became a legend.
