Chapter 9: Facing floor 99: The Cathedral with the Valkyries

Rae's POV

When I passed through the gates, I found myself in a church-like building. I was not much of a believer in my previous life so I would not know but this is what I assume a cathedral looks like.

The structure was gigantically massive and all around were quite a number of beautifully made doors. I couldn't tell which one was the way out and even if I did, I would definitely need a form of aerial transportation to reach it.

All around were these angel-like beings standing majestically with their glorious figures. They looked to be patiently guarding each of the said doors. I seemed to be towering over them since the place I was at looked to be the highest place in the whole Cathedral... Then I saw them, those same golden writings I saw in the dungeons.

What was this weird language? What did those symbols mean?... I just wish I could actually read the language.

" Liza is there a way for me to learn this cryptic language?"

[ Searching for the best solution to the creator's predicament...

Solution found... Executing the solution...

Through the use of the skill admin privileges the creator has gained the skill rune decryption lvl (1)]

" Rune decryption?"

What is happening? The symbols are suddenly changing to a form I can understand.

" What are you doing talking to yourself? Have you gone insane? ...Well, it looks like you survived."

"Yeah, no thanks to you!"

" Anyway, what do you think these things mean?"

" Let me see... Interesting, it says to pass through to heaven you must first overcome hell."

" What does that mean?"

"I don't know... The ground is suddenly trembling... no I think it's shifting ."

"Yeah, I can obviously see that."

"Take cover!!!"

"Cover???"

Am I about to die again? Seriously, am I never going to get a break? Being at level one in this death trap just means I have very bad luck at my side...  Maybe this is some sort of universal karma working towards repaying my crimes ... Do I even have crimes under my name? I know I was no saint in my previous life and this life but I was in no way a villain in them too. or was I? 

"Gene!! Get a hold of yourself, you are not a believer in the mystical workings of the universe. You are a believer in hard cold facts so this is just what we call a bad situation. I am sure you will survive."

Looks like the ground is settling. I can now finally stand on stable ground. Let me check my Hp, I know before the ground shifted I was able to bring it up but maybe after the shift it went down. Good looks like we are all good.

While I was able to recover my HP to its full capacity, my MP was another different issue... Have got to say the skill system is kind of a nice upgrade to my life in this world because now that I had healing magic as a skill all I had to do was to think about it and just like that it would happen.

Speaking of which I wonder if there was a way I could restore my Mp. Maybe if I tweak my barriers a little bit I might be able to? I would like to try out a few things and see which ones work.

So far my barriers seem to be protective against physical attacks but what about magical attacks?

...Was she always floating there above us? Looks like I am about to find out how my barriers face against an opponent of incredible power because I can really feel her pressure from here.

"Welcome, challenger. You have entered the domain of Olrun the weakest of the nine Valkyries. I will face you now."

She is a spear wielder. I have never faced one of those. This should be interesting... Wait did she just say valkyrie?... That name sounds familiar. Oh, Now I remember, it was the name that the adventurers gave the vampires in my clan during our adventuring days. So is this where the name originated from? That means that there was at least a person who reached this floor, maybe.

"...umph"

What was that speed? I couldn't even see her movements. Man!!! I so miss my vampiric speed... That attack really did a number on me... 

"... is that my blood?" Looks like I might have broken my ribs. The barrier that had already been put up was easily penetrated like it was just a piece of paper. My chances of winning are looking to be close to zero.

Is she really the weakest of the other eight?... Wait she said nine valkyries but I can only count eight, maybe I miscounted... No, they are definitely eight valkyries one in each of the seven doors. No that's not right, there is one in five of the doors, three on one door, and no one in the topmost door, maybe there is someone there it's just that they are invisible. 

"Liza activate thought acceleration!"

[ Right away creator but be warned...]

"Yes I already know, only my thoughts will be accelerated not my body..."

She is really coming at me with those attacks, I can barely do anything since I can barely see them. Her attacks are really powerful... I am starting to see them clearly. Now I see, she is using some sort of light magic enhancement.

That flurry of attacks that she has thrown at me has really reduced my HP.

HP: 80

MP:-319

I don't think I can keep this going any longer. My brain is really a mess right now... I know I can sustain my hp with healing magic but how long is that going to last? I need a way to get my mp back to the positives... I've got it. Let me see if my idea will work.

First step is to create a physical barrier. That was easy now next is to do a light magic spell bluff. This is going to be tricky but hopefully, it will work... Yes, I think it's working. Now that the spirits are on high alert ready to receive mana let me create a magic circuit to reverse the flow of mana. Now we wait... Yes!!! it's working, the barriers is holding up against her attacks. Now let me look at my mp and see if I have killed two birds with one stone.

MP: -267

Nice, it's quickly rising. Looks like my idea works.

[ Alert!!! The Creator has added magic barrier to her skill set, due to this the necessary threshold for Barrier magic level 2 has been reached. Levelling up barrier magic now... Barrier magic is now lvl 2

Furthermore, the necessary requirements for the skill Mana absorption have been reached. Because of this the skill Mana absorption lvl 1 has been acquired]

"Mana absorption?... Looks like a shortcut has already been created for me so I don't need to do much of anything."

Now that the skill is active, I can see her motions are starting to lose their initial energy. Looks like I may be able to win after all... Wait is she also using wind magic?... How did I know that?  

 Now I see, so she is using light magic together with wind magic. 

This is not good... my mp is fully replenished meaning that mana absorption won't work anymore. Wait!! maybe it can, I just have to use her mana to fuel my attacks. But what attack would be best suitable for this situation?

She is in the air and I am on the ground so attacking her first might not be the best of ideas. I will just have to wait for her to attack first then work on countering her attacks.

Looking at how I am weaponless I will just have to make do with my fists and magic...

That stance is very interesting... looks like she is about to attack again... Or not...

Why is she just floating there flapping her wings? isn't she going to attack me? Or is she planning to attack Norn? Nope, that doesn't look like it. Her gaze is only fixated on me. She is acting like Norn is completely invisible or doesn't even exist.

Either way, the only way to get a response from her is by bringing down my barrier...Good, she took the bait. Now we fight.

...Her speed and agility are something else. I can't even dare to try and match it at my current level. Even though with thought acceleration I can see her movements my body is still that of a level one so I cannot react in any way ... 

I am losing my Hp and Mp way too fast, If this keeps going on I will definitely die... If only I was able to see the future even if it is by seconds then maybe...Wait I remember a skill called Temporal and dimensional travel with that I could have definitely found a way to win here, but that was on my other body and even if I did have it I barely know how to use it so it would not have swayed this battle In any way or if it did it will not be to my favour...

The best thing for me to do now to at least gain some sort of equal standing would be to get rid of her wings or maybe get some of my own...

I think I have noticed a sort of pattern to her attacks and it is good timing too, her attacks were quickly wearing out my healing magic.

She is majorly using the long-range capabilities of the spear to keep me from reaching her vitals while she hits mine. Her wings are also giving her an aerial advantage with all sorts of possibilities so it is really weird that her attacks are so simplistic and straightforward. But even though they are that straightforward she is still very fast at attacking and reacting.

She looks to be majorly targeting my upper body mostly my chest area so I think I can at least use that as an advantage to disarm her and keep her grounded...

... That was close but luckily I was able to grab it. Now to disar-... Okay, she is way too powerful this is not gonna work... Wait maybe if I use my magic, either fire or light to make projectiles I may be able to disarm her...

That was unexpected. My little projectiles really seem to have done a number on her. My wounds are also healing without the help of healing magic. This seems a lot like the effects of the amethyst ring. But How? I don't think am wearing it or am I wearing it? Nope am not...

I don't know how but looks like I managed also to hurt her wings. Guess it is working out in my favour. I have successfully grounded and dis-...

Okay, how did she do that? The spear just started to glow Gold and silver and returned to her... 

...how did she heal her wings? Does she also have a regenerative ability? 

She doesn't look injured at all. It seems that what all my attacks did is make her angry. 

The air has also become quite eerie. Her posture and disposition seemed to shift to a much more serious and scary form. Was she not serious before? If she wasn't then It looks like I am in for quite the fight.
