Sun Rong frowned. "Is it…" he spoke, referring to the spirit servants. He glanced at Ho Ting.
Cheng Sheng shook his head. "Must be an ordinary ghost, or a resentful ghost." He answered. "Ling Yun. What can you see from these two souls?" he asked as he turned to Ling Yun.
Ling Yun's pupils are glowing. "One soul is pale in color while the other one is very dark." He answered.
"Resentful ghost." Cheng Sheng muttered.
"But, doesn't our inn have an array? Ghosts shouldn't be able to enter, right?" Qie Shi asked.
"Not everything is impenetrable." Cheng Sheng answered. "Also, this resentful ghost should be very strong to be able to break into my barrier. What Ling Yun should be seeing now… is just a part of it." He told them.
"'a part of it'?" they asked.
Cheng Sheng nodded. "Although it was originally strong, since it dared risk tearing into my barrier, then it paid a heavy price, barely losing its life." He said as he pinched something in the air and pulled it.
Then, everyone saw something shocking. A black figure came out of the guest's body!
"This is that ghost." Cheng Sheng spoke as he turned to the resentful ghost. "You could've turned into a demon instead. Why risk your cultivation to break through my barrier and possess this person?" he asked it.
Everyone's eyes widened and they all stared at Cheng Sheng as if the other had gone crazy. He is talking to a ghost?! He should be really crazy! They thought. And he even told the ghost to become a demon! They added.
"I – " the resentful ghost spoke in a cracked and hoarse voice, making one feel uncomfortable listening to it.
But, Cheng Sheng seemed to not have any problem with it. "Go on." He urged it to talk.
"This man has framed my father thus making my father lose his job. Because my father lost his job, he can't buy me medicines so I died not long later." The ghost spoke. "Then, after a few days, my father was killed by some drunk. I found out that drunk was actually hired by this person to kill my father because he is afraid that my father would tell their boss that it was this person who stole from the boss and not my father. My father is ineloquent thus he lost the argument and was framed after. How can my father still appeal after he lost his good reputation as an honest worker?" it bitterly said. "While I and my father are still wallowing in misery and suffering starvation, not to mention my father's reputation was ruined, this guy is living in debauchery." Its eyes glowed red and it glared at the unconscious person.
Everyone was shocked when they heard the story.
"Everyone has their own story, as well as the ghosts." Cheng Sheng spoke. "In fact, everyone is a soul and only turns to a ghost due to resentment. Naturally, this ghost has one. Their soul darkens due to resentment, and further darkens when they commit sins." He explained.
The ghost bitterly laughed. "What can I do except haunt this person?" it asked. "My father was already dead, so I can't wash his reputation clean. The only fortunate thing that happened is him entering reincarnation. But, I can't let go!" it said. "I still have to make him pay for what he did to my father!" it added.
Everyone fell silent. Although Sun Rong and Qie Shi welcomes guest, they definitely wouldn't welcome scum guests. "I apologize. We didn't know…" Sun Rong sighed.
"Naturally, you won't." the ghost said. "This scum heard that your inn has a protective barrier so it wanted to hide here while I was haunting him. He changed his identity and entered here." It explained.
Qie Shi frowned. "This is my neglect of duty." He pursed his lip in dissatisfaction. Starting today, they would be stricter towards their guests.
Sun Rong nodded. "We will immediately kick him out." He told the ghost. "This…" he looked at Cheng Sheng.
"Until it is satisfied, it won't stop from its haunting." Cheng Sheng told them.
"Then, we won't intervene with this matter." Sun Rong decided.
"Throw him out of the inn!" Qie Shi decided.
This is a debt of death. Sun Rong and Qie Shi got nothing to do with it. In fact, this guest actually just brought them trouble.
As soon as the guest was thrown out, he wailed in horror and hurriedly left, escaping from the pursuit of the resentful ghost. No one pitied him, since he didn't even an ounce of that in his body. Or else, he wouldn't have framed someone, damaging that person's reputation in the process. That person's son also died because of it.
Just as everyone returned, they heard a loud thud followed by a soft grunt of pain. "Cheng Sheng!" they cried and their eyes widened when they saw Cheng Sheng suddenly fell on the floor. "What's wrong?!" they asked.
"Ling Yun!" Shu Mu called as they helped Cheng Sheng up and carried him to a nearby couch.
"Y – yes!" Ling Yun answered and immediately checked Cheng Sheng's soul and qi.
Cheng Sheng suddenly laughed. "What can a child do? He isn't a doctor. I am." He told them with a weak voice.
"What's wrong with you?!" they all asked in panic.
"It… should be my body… my cultivation recovering." Cheng Sheng answered.
"'recovering'?!" they exclaimed and looked at him with sarcastic gazes. This is recovering?! He collapsed! They thought.
"Don't argue with me." Cheng Sheng told them. "I am really recovering. This is just a side-effect." He explained.
"'side-effect'?" they looked at him doubtfully. Although Cheng Sheng keeps his promises, most of the times he is a liar.
Cheng Sheng rolled his eyes at them. He can guess what they are thinking. "This is really a side-effect!" he told them in a helpless voice. "My cultivation is reforming my body that turned into a waste for five years! It is already fortunate for me not falling into a coma, okay?!" he explained.
They all were rendered speechless.
"So, this is why you collapsed… you are currently feeling weak?" Xiao Le muttered.
"Is there anything else that we need to know?" Sun Rong frowned. "We have to explain this to your sect, to everyone, especially to Fei Yin in case you'll be unconscious after you collapse." he told him.
Cheng Sheng nodded as answer. "Tell them that my cultivation is changing my body… this is all I know right now with the changes currently happening in me…" he took a deep breath. He has exhausted his energy just now. "Also, my senses should be dulling." He added when he remembered it.
"So, that's why you didn't enjoy the tea earlier?" Shu Mu's brow raised. He noticed earlier that Cheng Sheng looked like he was just drinking water. The tea should have a strong taste yet he was drinking it like it's tasteless.
Cheng Sheng grimaced. He exposed himself. "Not only my body's senses are dulling… I also might later be imperceptible to the qi." He told them.
Their pupils shrank. "What?!" they exclaimed.
"You witnessed it earlier. I didn't feel the barrier being torn when I should have. Thus, the ghost sneaked it." Cheng Sheng looked at them.
They all fell silent. "Then… what should we do now?" they asked as they felt their hearts sinking.
"Don't panic." Cheng Sheng told them. "I already made arrangements." He smiled.
As soon as they heard the word 'arrangement', their gazes fell on Ling Yun.
"E – eh?" Ling Yun muttered as he pointed himself.
"He'll be my eyes for now." Cheng Sheng said when he felt his eyelids turned heavy. "Fortunately, I won't be in a coma. Or else, we'll all be really doomed." He heaved a sigh. "I will instruct Ling Yun what to do while I am conscious." He told them before he paused. "Of course, this situation can only last for a week." He looked at Ling Yun.
Everyone started. That's right… Ling Yun is a participant of the Intersect Competition!
"Don't say that you'll drop from the competition." Cheng Sheng frowned when he saw Ling Yun's expression. "We still don't know how long my condition will last. But… you should all pray it will last for only three days or a week at most." He grinned at them.
Everyone's eyes darkened. "…" he still dared to make fun of them at a time like this?! They thought. But, what Cheng Sheng said is right. They all are depending on his knowledge and skills right now. If Cheng Sheng won't be around, they will become like headless flies.
"I know propriety." Cheng Sheng assured them. "If I will fall in a coma in the end, I will write you a letter beforehand so that you would know what to do." He said and weakly yawned. Even in yawning, he has no energy. "Ho Ting and Xi Ming will soon wake up, I suppose. Ling Yun, just follow the prescription.. And when they do, you immediately ask them… how they feel… and what they have experienced while they… are… asleep – " he spoke before his eyes closed.
