The days passed at two different speeds for the duo. For one, it was sluggish, and for the other, it was like lightning. Which one was which need not be stated. While Rei was preoccupied with anime, Ralf spent his days following a rather simple pattern.
Doing physical training in the morning, leaving for Ganurg at noon to do a mission, test techniques and patrol, then an hour or so later, he’d make his way back to Popleigh before heading home. Sometimes, he’d make a few stops on his way home but these were always done out of necessity (like buying snacks).
The passing days had only furthered the frenzy in Popleigh. The ‘on the fence’ mentally from a few days ago had been tossed aside by the masses. Caution was thrown to the wind, and more and more people began approaching Ralf on the streets.
Ralf liked it at first but things eventually got too overwhelming. If he blinked too slowly, he’d find himself amidst a crowd. It was just that bad. At present, he could hardly leave the house without getting swarmed by people asking him questions about this and that. Thanks to this phenomenon, Ralf made sure to keep his appearances around the city brief.
This was also his intention at this very moment.
*Step*
Up the stairs, Ralf passed through Enviso’s entranceway.
[Hey, is Miss Meredith here?] he asked upon having his mind connected to.
[Oh, you’re here,] Samantha’s cheerful voice sounded back. [Yeah, she’s here. She’s been expecting a visit, head up.]
Nodding, Ralf did just that. To the sixth floor, he moved. Arriving, he walked to her office. With the door already open, Ralf entered the office without reservation.
“Ralf, good to see you again.”
Meredith’s eyes popped with delight as she caught sight of him. To say she had been anticipating their next meeting was an understatement of note.
“Same same.” Ralf shut the door with his telekinesis before moseying on over to the couch and plopping down.
Meredith’s eyes flickered. ‘Taking a seat, huh…hopefully, that means he’ll stay for a while.’
The thought excited her, but she quickly reined herself in. Taking a calming breath, she spoke.
“Ralf, I thought you’d stop by sooner. You promised me you’d bring something sweet. You’ve brought it, right?”
Ralf nodded. “Of course, I’m a man of my word after all...here you are.” He floated the chocolate bar to the desk while retrieving his own.
Meredith’s face curled up into a smile. “Mm, thanks, Ralf.” Eager for a level up, she unwrapped the chocolate and began biting into it. While savouring the flavour on her tongue, her eyes honed in on Ralf’s form. Seeing him remain seated caused her heart to turn restless.
‘Still not going?’
Wanting to confirm his intentions, she quickly swallowed and wiped her mouth. “Ralf...umm, you didn’t stop by to just drop off my candy, right?”
“Nope. I also came to deliver the finished product.”
“Finished product,” the middle-aged manager repeated with a blank look on her face, completely floored by the words. “Finished product...the movie’s finished already?”
“Yeah, it’s finished. Right, Rei...” Uttering the name, Ralf turned his attention to the opposite couch.
‘What’s this?!’ Meredith’s eyes widened.
Already shocked by his initial claim, she was beset with another wave as she felt the room’s temperature drop. Robbed of her speech, she watched as Psi separated from Ralf’s body. It floated through the air, gathered at the opposite couch where it then formed up to create a Psi avatar, identical to Ralf.
((Indeed,)) the Psi Clone answered coolly, perfectly mimicking Rei’s voice.
‘This is Ralf’s other personality, the one he mentioned.’ Meredith sat in awe at the discovery. Gulping hard, she moved to verify her findings.
“Ahm, you’re Ray right?”
((Indeed.))
“I see. I’m Meredith, nice to meet you.”
((Indee-.))
Not allowing the pattern to come into existence, Ralf’s Psi Bullet blasted the Psi Clone’s head off.
[[You’re not a pokemon. Say something else.]]
Rei mentally sighed but ultimately acquiesced. Reforming the Psi Clone, he then turned his head Meredith’s way and said, ((Greetings, I’m Rei, nice to meet you too.))
Finishing his introduction, he focused inward. [[There, happy?]]
[[No. You left out the most important thing,]] Ralf responded, his voice more annoyed than before.
Rei was confused, especially as he sensed the undercurrent of seriousness in his other self’s words.
[[Most important thing?]]

[[You’re not just Rei, you’re Rei Fawkes, Rei Fawkes, got that.]]
[[I am?]]
[[You are,]] Ralf stamped down.
[[...I see, Rei Fawkes it is then.]]
His words came out nonchalantly, however, upon saying them, Rei couldn’t help but feel a pleasant stirring coming from deep within.
Internal exchange complete, Ralf turned to Meredith, the act of which, ended up breaking her out of her daze.
Her face immediately twisted up. “Wait, you said the movie is complete, how?! How can that be? Did you not work on it from scratch?” She questioned, darting between Ralf and the Psi Clone with a bewildered look on her face.
Ralf shrugged. “I told you, didn’t I, the Silver Path left us with several special tools. The production methods we employ are very unique. Using them, movies, series and the like can be pumped out very quickly. And best of all, quality isn’t sacrificed.”
“But it’s only been five days, that’s way too quick,” Meredith shot back.
Ralf shrugged again, this time joined by the Psi Clone. “Using conventional methods, five days is impossibly quick, but using our methods, it’s actually pretty slow. If we rush rush, we could even make a movie in under an hour, and it’d still be pretty good.”
Meredith fell silent, unable to comprehend what she was being told. She had a high threshold for ridiculousness but Ralf’s claims were just too much; it was far beyond what she could readily accept.
Ralf merely smiled, then tapping his head, he said, “Connect me, you’ll understand what I mean.”
Meredith nodded and then relayed the necessary instructions. Seconds later, the same Natural from before, and the one responsible for the mass media transfer was connected to.
To the death of the Psi Clone, Rei shifted back to the Mental Space and, after speeding it up, transferred the movie over.
[Well?] Meredith questioned, [[is it a full movie?]
[...]
Jonathan, her Natural subordinate didn’t answer immediately - or rather couldn’t. Just as she was, he too was very curious about what kind of creation the talk of the city would create, and so, not waiting for an invitation, proceeded to watch the entire movie at super speed.
The result: a minute-long stupor.
Only at the twelfth call could Meredith’s voice finally reach him. [Jonathan, what’s going on, answer me!]
[A-Ah umm ahh sorry. You wanted to know if it was a full movie, right? It is, certainly.]
[You watched it? What are your thoughts? Does it pass our quality standard?]
[Watch it yourself and decide.]
Meredith’s heartbeat sped up. While the words were neutral, the overflowing excitement coming from her subordinate’s inner voice couldn’t be more telling. If she was very picky, Johnathan was twice that, so for him to be impressed greatly raised her expectations.
“The movie’s been successfully transferred. Now what?” Ralf asked before taking another chunk out of the slab.
“Now, the quality inspection. All media that enters Enviso’s catalogue has to be quality checked before they can get the green light. Usually, this duty doesn’t fall to me, but for this case, I’ve decided to do it personally.”
Saying this, she stood up from her desk, circled around and then plopped herself down on the couch the Psi Clone was at previously. Making herself comfortable, she turned to Ralf and said, “I’ll watch it and give my verdict afterwards. What will you do? Stay till I’m done? Or leave and come back when it ends?”
“Which do you prefer?”
“The former.”
“Then, the former it is.”
Meredith smiled. “Okay, we’ll start shortly then. Just waiting for my snacks to come up. Ralf, if you want something, don’t hold back, you can order away. It’s on the house.”
Ralf accepted her offer and ordered up. Minutes later, the two were armed up like octopuses.
*Inhale* * Exhale*
Ralf’s lips curled up. “It’s not that serious, it’s just a movie, no need to psyche yourself up for it.”
Meredith didn’t pay any mind to Ralf. By now, she had learned that she couldn’t go unprepared. When dealing with the youth before her, mental defences were a must. Doing a few more breathes, she then slapped her cheeks. Feeling the sting, she nodded in approval. Her spirit was fully invigorated, ready to withstand any storm that came her way.
“Okay, all set. Do your worst.”
Jonathan heard her loud and clear, and three seconds later, the movie began streaming in.
