What separated ordinary Telekinetics from the duo’s version?
There were Telekinetics who had practically limitless Conceptual Memory space and practically limitless Psi Capacity, whose MPE and MPC were one to one, had extremely quick Psi, and had Mental Energy resilient enough that they could fight endlessly.
In the Zenki Era’s three hundred year history, there was quite a number of psionic prodigies and aberrants, with a handful of people who had all the above-mentioned attributes, some even more absurd than the duo’s stats.
The key difference between these billions of people and the duo, the unique feature that separated the duo from all other Telekinetics was the presence of the Mental Space.
The value of this inner world was incomparable. To go through this domain’s total utility would take forever, so instead, let’s focus on one concept.
Mental Space Assisted Technique (MSAT).
Looking at these words, one might scratch their head, and for good reason. Pretty much every technique, psionic or not, was conceived and sharpened in the confines of the Mental Space. In a way, the Mental Space had ‘assisted’ in everything the duo created.
This was true, however, MSAT was understood as the Mental Space’s active participation in a technique’s materialisation and ‘completion’, via a pseudo Automatic Aura process.
???
No worries, an explanation was in store.
The best point to start was the Record of Everything. It was a technique that recorded all sensory data, both physical and psionic, experienced by the duo.
There were two versions, one that recorded everything in the outside world and one that recorded everything that happened in the Mental Space. The one to note was the outside version. It was constantly active but required at least one of the duo to be in the outside world.
The duo, from the outside world, could peek in and interfere with the Mental Space. This ability, part Clairvoyant part Telepathic, allowed them to connect to, and activate ‘programs’ they developed in the Mental Space.
The Record of Everything (Outside) worked thanks to this. The duo loved the technique. Their memories were excellent but they couldn’t compare to the vividness and clarity of the Record of Everything’s recordings.
While enjoying them, a question naturally arose in the duo’s minds. Through technique creation, it was clear that the Mental Space was acting as their Conceptual Memory. They could craft an item in there, and then summon it in the outside world with no difference at all. This got them thinking.
Since they could establish a link between the Mental Space and the outside world, and their Conceptual Memory was shared space, couldn’t they have ‘programs’ actively manipulate their Psi in the outside world as well?
The answer was yes, and it gave birth to what the duo call their Mental Space Assisted Techniques.
???
Let’s go through a few techniques then.
Twisted Barrel.
It was a multistage technique that required the active participation of the Mental Space, and most importantly, the Record of Everything (Outside’s) data. First, the duo would fire out a ‘ring’ of Psi into their surroundings. This ‘ring’, stuffed with undifferentiated Psi, was the entrance of the yet-to-be formed pipe/barrel.
Next, the duo perused the list of pipes stored in their Conceptual Memory and, depending on their discretion, made a selection. Once these two steps were done, everything that followed was automatic. Psi would wrap around the gun they had in their hand.
Importantly, only registered weapons counted, so only their personal pistols at this point. The pistol moved on its own, like an aimbot, to line up with the ring, and then the trigger would be pulled.
It knew exactly where to aim thanks to the Record of Everything (Outside’s) real-time data. In the Mental Space, the environment was recreated, and a program instantly computed the coordinates of the ring and the angle needed.
After calculating this, it assumed control of the Psi smothering the duo’s gun and had it shift into place for the bullet to perfectly enter the narrow ring. This allowed for the shocking speed of the move. The duo was pretty good shots, but they weren’t at the level where they could snap their wrists and have a bullet enter such a tiny opening.
Next, False Speaker and Psi Telly.
These were grouped because they functioned on the same principle. To Chloe and the others, the duo was simply quickly moving through Conceptual Memory slots one by one. But this wasn’t the case. They had the segments of sound and images all arranged in a playlist and played in order.
Chaotic Disruption and Oscillation Wave.
These two were also basically the same, with the latter being a more limited variant of the former.
Contrary to the usual complex method, the duo had created their Psi Disruption technique in a very simple manner. They simply split their aura up into the smallest unit that could be vibrated enough to make a difference.
Coincidentally, this number came to 9001. As they did this, they assigned each segment a number and a particular random generator. This was where the technique got its ‘chaotic’ tag from. Ranges were set and the random generator values were made to correlate with regions in space. Once everything was set up, the duo tested it out.
It was a resounding success, dozens of times more effective than their previous Psi Disruption technique. However, the duo didn’t stop there. While the ever-changing nature of the vibrations created a fearsome and torrential sea, the duo noted that a lot of power was being wasted. So, instead of random values, they set up values that produced a constructive interference effect.
Seeing how potent this effect was opened the duo’s minds to another possibility, vibration techniques.
Hearing the term, one might scratch their chin. What was so special about vibration techniques?
Wasn’t Psi Disruption a vibration technique?”
Yes and no. Technically, it was. But in the context of Psi battles, vibration techniques didn’t just refer to techniques that vibrated things, but a type of high-level Psi technique that, through intense vibrations, disintegrated Psi constructs and barriers.
Psi barriers were very susceptible to these types of attacks. Still, while they were susceptible, the required level of vibration wasn’t easy to achieve - rather, it was very difficult.
It required one to possess lightning-quick Psi, a high MPE/MPC ratio, Automatic Aura and oodles of aura. These severe conditions made it so that even those touted as Psi geniuses needed to be Rank 6 at the very least to be able to perform vibration techniques. It was truly a high-level technique.
The duo bypassed these conditions through the Mental Space’s intervention.
The Oscillation Wave was a small scale hyper-focused version of the Chaotic Disruption. The just over nine thousand segments vibrated in sync, creating a monstrous vibration. Through sheer numbers and constructive interference, the duo managed to make up for their lacking aura. It also helped that their Psi was absurdly quick.

Just like the Chaotic Disruption, Oscillation Wave had gone through many improvements, upping the potency further and further. By now, the technique secured its place as the duo’s ultimate technique. And it was all thanks to the Mental Space’s assistance. The pseudo Automatic Aura it granted couldn’t be understated.
Automatic Aura.
There were many combat perks to gaining this ability, but the best was undoubtedly one’s drastically increased survivability. When activated, a Rank 6 and above was very difficult to kill.
No matter how strong or skilled a Rank 5 or below was, when they were unconscious or asleep, they were just a normal person. As long as one acted in this time, they were very easy to kill. And if they moved through the street, a sniper could easily take them out from afar.
This was much harder against a Rank 6 with their Automatic Aura active, which was pretty much always. The Automatic Aura counted as a passive technique and could remain active constantly. Only when its effect was triggered did the user’s Mental Energy drain. Importantly, it could remain up even after the user was unconscious or asleep.
The way it works is that the user inputs trigger conditions and prepared responses into the Automatic Aura’s Conceptual Memory. The most common one concerned object-speed detection.
For instance, Chloe’s Automatic Aura was triggered when her Psi registered an object moving above 20 m/s. Without conscious thought, her Psi armour would materialise around her and her Psi Scan perception would drastically slow to match the level of speed detected.
This was a basic set-up for when one was awake. When one had to asleep, an Automatic Aura user would set up a domain around them. The shape of this domain varied according to the environment. The conditions varied from person to person. Some people prioritised detection and defence while others prioritised offence.
The duo could do this as well.
There MSAT version Automatic Aura worked a bit different from normal Automatic Aura though. They had to use individual Psi constructs as triggers.
There were two noteworthy techniques to mention, Trouble Bubble and Bubble Trouble.
Trouble Bubble.
This was a technique that allowed them to automatically dodge projectiles. They would release hundreds of Psi ‘bubbles’ into their surroundings. When in the air, these bubbles arranged themselves in a sphere and when on the ground, the bubbles arranged themselves in a half-sphere.
These bubbles were very fragile but each contained a code. When a projectile came flying in, and at least two consecutive bubbles were popped, a program in the Mental Space instantly formed a path of trajectory and would then activate Flicker to have the duo evade the incoming projectile. Their exact dodging form was chosen by using Zero’s combat data, so even if several bullets came flying in simultaneously, they could evade them. The obvious downside to this technique was that it didn’t do too well against non-linear projectiles.
Coming right after Trouble Bubble was Bubble Trouble. The technique employed the same concept of using bubbles as triggers but was mainly used as a detection and alarm system.
The duo had used it several times already in the outside world. On one occasion, they employed it to prove to Hana that they could use Automatic Aura. By just opening the door, the fragile bubbles burst and Ralf was awoken by a telekinetic slap on the wrist while a program in the Mental Space alerted Ray to the presence of an intruder.
It was a very neat technique. Still, it wasn’t used too often…or at all really. One caveat to using their pseudo Automatic Aura was that at least one of the duo had to be in the outside world, to act as a bridge for the Mental Space’s programs’ code to travel through.
The duo didn’t like to sleep so this condition left much to be desired. Still, while they didn’t make use of it currently, they valued it nonetheless. It would surely come in handy in the future.
Twisted Barrel, False Speaker, Psi Telly, Chaotic Disruption, Oscillation Wave, Trouble Bubble, Bubble Trouble…
This list was far from the duo’s only MSATs. Rather, most of their techniques had been altered to utilise this mechanism. Psi Bike for instance, initially, the duo had to actively spin the back wheel but after turning it into a MSAT, the once superficial throttle twisting motion became all they needed to accelerate the Psi vehicle.
The duo didn’t stop there and continued cranking out more and more techniques.
They were currently showing off their latest one, Psi games, more specifically Psi Fighters.
On a 1x1 metre square Psi platform, made to look like a grid, were two small Psi figures. One was a female and the other a male. Aside from this difference, they also dressed differently and had different weapons, with the former having a staff and the latter having brass knuckles.
Their character designs were unique, detailed and exquisite. Usually, Hana would spend time appreciating them, but at this moment, she had no such luxury. With a face tense with focus, she pushed and pulled at the arcade-style controller in her hands.
In the Mental Space at the same time, the controller she was handling was recreated. In the region it operated, a program was set up to register the orientation of the joystick and the depression of the buttons as specific inputs, which then triggered another program, which then had the Psi figure in the outside world move in a certain way.
The female Psi figure jammed down her pole and used it to perform a spinning kick. The male figure was in range, but the last second block kept it from taking any damage. It then pulled back to the edge of the platform, before firing off blasts with its punching motions. The female fighter ducked. Sidestepping wasn’t an option. Despite its models being three dimensional, Psi Fighters was a ‘2D game’.
Seeing the projectiles fly over her head, the male fighter paused a second before firing a slightly smaller projectile. Hana thought nothing of it, as she inched her way back into range. However, as the projectile reached behind her, a button press saw the male fighter’s figure disintegrate into Psi particles before quickly regathering where the projectile was previously.
Having effectively teleported behind her, the male fighter fired off a low kick. The bar positioned on Hana’s side was drained dry at the action and the False Speaker sounded on cue.
((Match Complete. Player 2 Wins.))
Along with the announcement, a simple jingle played in the background. While this was happening, the male character showed a proud expression and threw a few punches in the air in celebration.
Silver, fresh from victory, turned to Hana beside him and flashed a splendid smile. “Want to go again?”
Hana didn’t immediately answer. Without a word, she put the controller aside and stood up before glancing his way. Catching the fiery gaze, Silver turned sheepish.
“Ah umm, mom...it’s just a ga-”
“Let’s continue this in the backyard.”
*Step*
Not waiting for his answer, she began striding off, ready to do real battle. The successive losses had gotten under her skin and invoked a rage she didn’t know she had, gamer rage.
Silver smiled bitterly as he witnessed this phenomenon. ‘To think even mom would get like after a few losses. I knew we should have kept it to less competitive games. Oh, well, what’s done is done.’
He got up and headed to the backyard. What followed was even more one-sided than the Psi -video- games.
Silver loved his mother no doubt, but purposely losing just wasn’t his thing. Needless to say, the hug counter for that day would be much lower than on previous days.
