The question session didn’t start immediately. Hana brought out her best delicacies and beverages. Only after the place was filled with them did she finally take her seat beside the dolls.

“Mm, this tea is excellent,” Micheal said after taking a sizeable sip.

“You’re not kidding, this is straight from the branch.”

Hana smiled at the pair’s compliments. “Thanks. I got it from a friend, he’s somewhat of a tea addict.”

“I’m not surprised, this stuff is great, I’m getting addicted myself,” Lisana shut her eyes and inhaled the steam with a look of pleasure.

Micheal shook his head at her behaviour before turning to Hana. A thousand questions were swirling through his head, ready to fire out. However, instead of those he came with, he asked - no brought up a thing that had been on his mind ever since capturing her in his sights.

“Ralf’s absence must be tough on you.”

Hana’s face darkened. “Yeah, losing my boys has done quite a number on me. It’s been hard without them…but I’ll pull through. No need to worry, I’m a tough girl…plus, they left me these things.” She brought one of the dolls close and wrapped it up in her embrace. Hugging it, her expression slowly brightened. “They left these behind to hug in their place should I need it, they’re really a considerate bunch.”

Micheal’s expression faltered at the words.

Besides Hana’s swollen eyes, the three life-sized anime-styled dolls were the things that grabbed the most attention.

‘Boys, they, bunch…she also treats them as a group, why?’ Micheal’s eyes examined the dolls. They were nearly identical save for slight expression differences and colour scheme.

“Those dolls…they’re Ray, Ralf and Silver?” Lisana asked.

“Yeah, adorable right?”

“Um, yeah, super, right Micheal.”

Suddenly tossed the ball, the Ascendant’s eyes flickered. “Yeah, uh, super adorable.”

Hana nodded as a radiant smile shone on her face. She turned to the Silver doll in her mitts and had it face her. “They’re not just adorable either, they’re also weapons.”

“Weapons?” Lisana’s eyebrows shot up at the insinuation.

Hana wiggled the doll to make it a nod before continuing, “Check it out for yourselves.”

The pair didn’t hold back and did just that.

“Grendo guns,” Lisana discovered, her voice sounding with a tinge of surprise. It wasn’t just the Silver doll that had a hidden compartment; checking the other two dolls, she found the same.

Hana nodded. “Yep, and not just these dolls. The entire house is filled with all sorts of hidden tricks and traps. They are worrywarts…though I can’t blame them.” She grabbed the Silver doll’s cheeks with a smile on her face. Their love for her was undeniable.

Micheal and Lisana confirmed her words in the passing seconds as they swept their Psi Scans through the building. By the end, they would trade widened glances at their findings.

Micheal reined in his shock before turning to Hana, who was still fiddling with the doll.

“The rumours of your stellar mother-son relationship are certainly not fals-”

“Sons,” Hana corrected with a firm voice. “Mother-sons.”

Micheal squinted. After a second, his eyes returned to their usual sizes. “I see, forgive my error. Since hearing about Ralf’s other personalities, I’ve been very curious. To prevent any more mistakes, Hana, can you enlighten me about your sons and their actions since awakening.”

“Gladly.”

Following the words, Hana began a lengthy account, going through the last two months’ events in chronological order. Micheal and Lisana interrupted many times with their questions.

What was Ralf’s Unique power?

“Hmm, not saying,” Hana replied with a slight shake of her head.

“You know?” Lisana followed up.

“Yep, I know. But he said not to tell you, said he wanted to tell you in person to get your reaction.”

A bitter smile surfaced on Micheal’s face at this answer. He tried worming an answer out of her but to no avail. Knowing that the whole answer was impossible, he asked, “Okay, then, at least answer this. Compared to every other Unique power, where would you say it stands?”

“Number one,” Hana’s answer couldn’t come quicker.

Micheal and Lisana were floored by the decisiveness displayed. The Unique class was a class of monstrous abilities. There were many contenders for best power, from Astra’s to Mira’s, to Dimitri’s, to his own. It wasn’t an easy choice to make and yet, Hana had done just that.

While her decision baffled the pair, Hana saw no fault with her words. In her eyes, Ralf’s power was the greatest; it had brought her two more loveable sons after all. To her, this was the best power imaginable, far greater than being able to teleport thousands of kilometres in an instant, turn back time or see into the future.

After gathering their bearings and reclaiming their calm, the pair of Micheal and Lisana continued with their questions.

How can Ralf use Telekinetic powers?

“That’s related to his powers, so my mouth is shut.”

How did they manage to get so skilled so quickly?

“Oh, that I can answer. You see, they have this inner world in their Mental Domain they refer to as their Mental Space. They explained that they train in this place. Also, they are able to slow down time drastically there. So while it’s only been two months in the outside world, they’ve already spent years training and honing their skills there. That’s why they’re as skilled as they are in the videos.”

The Silver Path?

“It’s fake…or rather, they are the only Silver Path members. They first made it to use as a deterrent against the Red Star but since then it’s become its own thing. They’ve decided to stick with it, turning it into a self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts.”

Micheal cupped his chin. It was as he suspected. “What about the male and female pair known as R34 and H45, and Professor Zakute Umosa.”

“Professor Zakute is made up, but not completely. I’m not sure who but the boys said they used a real person as a reference for him. The same goes for the male and female, well, except, I know who they’re referencing. The female Unique was modelled after me.”

“You?” Lisana’s eyebrows raised.

“Yeah,” a sweet smile rose to Hana’s face. “I always told Ralf he could do anything he set his mind to, that his potential was unlimited. I suppose that’s the inspiration behind the H45 character. As for R34, Micheal’s the inspiration behind that.”

“Hmm, I see, so I’m a Pather as well,” he said with a wry smile.

Hana smiled. “Of course.”

The questions continued to fire out. Hana bore the heat well and answered what she could and deflected what she couldn’t. She had learned well from her sons, dropping crumbs while making sure her audience stayed hungry.

Micheal and Lisana didn’t press the issue when rejected. They took it in stride and transitioned to their next questions swiftly. After an hour of back and forths, every question they had that could be answered, was.

“Hana, thank you for entertaining our badgering. You’ve given us a lot to think about,” Micheal said with an appreciative look.

Hana shook her head. “It was a pleasure. To be in the company of the World’s Light is always an honour.”

Micheal’s face turned wry and his gaze shifted to his empty cup. “Ah, thanks, your words are too kind,” he said, a sliver of guilt leaking out, though too minute for Hana to pick up on.

He got up. “Tonight was an eye-opening experience. Hana, I’ll be off to have an eye-closing experience, so I’ll bid you farewell. I enjoyed my time, you were a wonderful host.”

“Thanks. Glad you came Micheal, don’t be a stranger. You’re welcome anytime, your too Lisana.”

Lisana’s biscuit-stuffed face formed a smile at the words, which Hana couldn’t help but smile at. It was no different than her sons’ expressions after all.

Micheal’s lips tugged up as he watched the silent exchange.

“Hana, before I go…is there anything you want to ask me or request of me?” he asked seriously as he stared at the flickering flames.

“My children’s safety…that’s all I want. They’re destined to shine brighter than any other. All they need is a bit of time. So, all I request is for you and your allies to ensure their safety until they get their feet off the ground, that’s all. Once they’re flying, I’m sure they’ll be of great aid to your ongoing mission. My boys are good apples, the best apples.”

Micheal smiled. “I see, your request has been heard loud and clear.”

“Loud and clear,” Lisana repeated with a nod.

Hana’s face bloomed with joy, clearly satisfied by their response.

A few more pleasantries were exchanged before the pair made their exit. After seeing them off at the entranceway, Hana returned to her couch. She would watch an episode of anime before calling it a night. Having finally met up with Micheal and unloaded the burden off her chest, she would sleep comfortably that night.

The same couldn’t be said of Micheal though.
