Shot after shot, Silver emptied out his two guns before descending beside a hill of monster corpses.
‘Works well enough.’ Satisfied with the guns’ performance, he holstered them. The gun-slinging continued, but instead of real bullets, Psi bullets were used.
Swish!
Silver strode forward, his steps causal as though taking a walk in the park, all the while dispatching his foes. The silent but deadly projectiles were fired out with laser-like precision.
The goblins’ simplistic trajectories made for easy target practice. Goblin skulls were punctured one after the other, causing their brain matter and red blood to slosh out gruesomely.
Silver carried out the task with sublime efficiency and ease. Using his physical brawn alone, he swayed here and there, avoiding the goblins’ frenetic attacks with the minimalist of motions.
Swoosh!
He took a step back while tilting his head slightly back. A goblin flew by, its left claw slashing at the air mere centimetres away. Silver’s eyes remained the still lake it was.
His left finger gun flashed leftward. Just like his other projectiles, ninety-five percent of his Psi was allocated into the bullet’s construction and firing.
With Silver’s Mental Energy, this two-step process was nigh instantaneous. The Psi Bullet flashed forward, hitting the back of the goblin’s head, tunnelled straight through and ended the monster’s life. By the time the corpse hit the ground, seven more goblins had their lives reaped by Silver.
The goblins weren’t just doing suicidal charges.
They zigzagged, circled, and tried attacking from different angles while coordinating with their fellow goblins. None of it worked; still, it was clear that the concept of strategy and tactics wasn’t lost on them.
Monsters, especially the humanoid types like goblins were quite intelligent. They weren’t comparable to humans or aresians, but they stood well above common animals.
The screeches that resounded throughout the forest weren’t random noises. Scholars had studied them thoroughly, and discovered that it was a fairly complex language.
Monsters could use tools, form simple societies and assume different roles in them. Their Ki manipulation was shoddy, but entering a Monster Zone thinking that one would be shooting fish in a barrel was a dangerous notion to have.
Despite his arrogant words, Silver’s mind was very cautious. He was one birthed from tens of thousands of victories…and a similar amount of defeats. He knew not to underestimate his opponents. A single misstep, a clever tactic, or an accident of nature could turn the tides in an instant. He kept vigilant for any trick the monsters threw at him.
And lo and behold, a trick arrived.
‘Oh, you must be a veteran of sorts,’ Silver thought as his senses honed in on the quickly descending monster above him.
From the hill he was on previously, a goblin had leapt off. This wasn’t noteworthy by itself. What was, was the monster’s refrain from emitting any Ki while doing so.
This came as a sharp contrast to all its fellow monsters who were burning with a green blaze.
All monster offspring born from the first generation of Ki users were able to ‘use’ Ki. Using the Psi system as a reference, Ki allowed monsters to use a Ki version of the Psi Scan, the regeneration aura of the Onic class and the barrier and telekinesis of the Telekinetic class. Monsters didn’t use these abilities well though.
Still, regardless of proficiency, monsters had an insistent tendency to constantly radiate their Ki even when it didn’t aid them in any way.
The descending goblin’s actions and silence while doing them made it clear that the creature was cunning. Despite how juicy a meal Silver was to it, it could still work out a plan.
A plan it was, but not a successful one. Silver’s Echo Scan caught the goblin’s approach clearly. He aimed up and a Psi Bullet scattered the monster’s brain matter.
Silver avoided the icky downpour with a Psi umbrella before tossing it away.
‘There’s still so many left...enough playing around.’
A flash of seriousness passed through Silver’s eyes; his Psi responded in kind, and a moment later, he was off.
Blade in one hand, ‘gun’ in another, Silver entered slaughter mode. The green ocean was quickly made to evaporate before his inferno.
At the cardinal points, four large and weapon-wielding goblins were positioned. After a screech, each drove their Ki to their limits and rushed at their human target.
Psi Bullet.
North fell first, and with a T-pose, east and west followed. Silver swung around to meet the final monster and took aim. However, mid-completion, he aborted the Psi Bullet and instead constructed a tower shield, which the fast-flying monster crashed into.
This hadn’t killed the monster, but it was left dizzy from the collision.
Silver hadn’t done this just to inflict pain on the monster. He took no pleasure in such acts. Rather, he remembered that he had a technique to field test.

Dragon Tail.
It was currently the duo’s strongest attack outside accelerated attacks. It took the form of a four-meter-long Psi whip.
It worked on a similar principle as Fated String, where the base of the rope was accelerated to hundreds of meters a second to generate a ton of force. However, unlike Fated String, which was focused on tugging, Dragon Tail’s focus was on delivering all that force to one point to produce a devastating attack.
Just whipping out wasn’t all Dragon Tail was though. If it was just this, it wouldn’t qualify to be on the ‘ultimate technique’ pedestal it was currently on. Dragon Tail was a multistage multicomponent technique that utilized ninety-eight percent of their Psi to achieve.
The first stage was the ‘soft’ stage. Here, the four-meter long whip would be materialized. This whip was specially made to be both strong and rubbery. When Dragon Tail was activated, the base of this whip would be accelerated to supersonic speeds. At the same time, the whip’s inner tube which stored telekinetic Psi would begin its rush through the rope. As the coils accelerated the base speed, the Psi rushing up the tube would increase the ‘weight’ of the whip.
Both things worked to accelerate the overall speed of the whip. Then, as the telekinetic Psi reached the tip of the rope, they would transform into hardened Psi, which would increase both the weight and transform the soft tail end to a sturdy club. This was the second stage form and what would collide against the target. The result was a devastating hypersonic attack.
The technique was simple in concept, however, most wouldn’t dare attempt to mimic the duo’s actions. Though, most wouldn’t be able to. Conceptual Memory slots were very limited in nature and quickly filled up when one tried to store dynamic things in them.
The Dragon Tail couldn’t be fit into one slot, and instead, required the simultaneousness activation of several. They had to program this feature in, as just trying to ‘click’ them in quick succession would end up with the Dragon Tail obliterating their avatar. Silver, the creator of this technique, had his avatar destroyed dozens of times during the creation of the technique. It required one to be very precise with the inputted values. If one was just off by a bit, death was certain.
Still, Silver pushed on. This technique’s potential was just too incredible to ignore. His efforts were rewarded when everything clicked into place. The first thing he did upon perfecting this technique was, do a virtual space run. It was by spamming this technique that he ended up destroying Hoodlums’ Paradise’s third level.
The technique’s activation speed and attack speed combined with its tricky trajectory thanks to its whip-like properties made it stand head and shoulders above all other attacks.
And now, Silver was moment’s away from unleashing its might upon the goblin before him.
“Curee!”
Coming to, the goblin screeched and sprang Silver’s way, maw widened to their limits, and teeth coated with saliva.
‘Slow.’
With the thought, Overclock was activated and Silver’s perception slowed down drastically. Once frozen in time, he directed his mind into his Conceptual Memory. At this moment, ‘bubbles’ invaded his world.
Within a four-meter radius, with him as the centre, dozens of bubbles positioned themselves all around him. Silver recognized this as Dragon Tail’s impact zones. Understanding this, Silver chose the bubble that overlapped with the goblin’s head.
And then…
*BOOM*
A thundering shockwave rocked the area. Setting the air ablaze in its wake, the whip tore through the frozen world that was Silver’s perception, reaching its target in an instant. True to its name, the attack struck with might akin to the mythical beast’s tail swipe.
The monster’s head was obliterated in a fiery flash. Not content with its destruction, Dragon Tail’s spurts of flames chased after the brain matter, skull fragments, and blood that had been sent flying, singeing them as though punishing them for their insolence.
‘And that’s that.’
Seeing the result match up to his expectations, a look of satisfaction passed over Silver’s face. He deactivated Overclock and then dematerialized the barrier around his ears, allowing him to once again hear.
“Argh!”
Suddenly, an acute pain visited him, causing him to hold his head. He battled the throbbing headaches for nearly ten seconds before they finally subsided
‘Ah, that hurt like hell ah ah ah...looks like repeated use doesn’t improve anything.’
Overclock was a technique of extreme positives and extreme negatives. At this point, the negatives were just too weighty. This wasn’t a new discovery but the duo couldn’t help but be enticed by the positives. They wanted to make it work, but unfortunately, this wasn’t meant to be, as Silver was now fully acknowledging.
Silver straightened up, ‘Listen, from now on. Overclock is an officially forbidden technique. Until our body reaches its final state, it is never to be used again. Understood?’
Silver’s eyes showed approval as the soul impulses delivered the answers he wanted to hear.
‘Another thing,’ he turned his attention to the gruesome aftermath, ‘don’t stain my hands with such worthless opponents. Present me something worthy of my time - or rather more worthy than these lowly creatures. Unless it’s to fight a strong opponent, an experiment, or to be wrapped up in mom’s embrace, don’t summon me.’
He eyed the goblins with a look of disdain before shutting his eyes. ‘I’ll leave the clean-up to you. Rei, Ralf, my other selves, continue to grow stronger as you have been. There is still a long way to walk on this path of ours, so keep your feet moving. Where I stand now is far from where I should be.’
Having relayed all he wanted to, Silver took a breath and defused.
