(A/N: This is my first HFY/Sci-fi. All these will be short stories in the same universe. I’m Taking heavy inspiration from the Expanse, r/HFY subreddit and Isaac Arthur. I just felt like starting this after binging tons of videos from AgroSquirrel and NetNarrator. These will be available on RoyalRoad, ScribbleHub and the r/Hfy Subreddit)

Are Humans lucky or simply crazy.

(NOTICE: Units of Measurement have been converted to earth measurements for convenience.)

Chil’iuk Brad’vom Dec-mar Sighed as his tentacles twisted in confusion and stress.

“Now that my species had contacted humanity it had been chaos, almost starting with the humans blowing up their envoy. They, as a young but passionate species, were chaotic. The Legal, Diplomatic and Governmental Structures and interactions between the multiple human factions was the biggest hurdle but now that the diplomatic dance had finished, he was one of the scholars that where wading through the endless dimension of knots that was THE INTERNET.

My job was to create a coherent file on human scientific discoveries. He had now been at his job for the last few months he had noticed two things.

Firstly, they could never actually agree on anything, for example when he asked the leadership why he did this and not just ask the humans the answer was kind of obvious. Each human had a different version of history and even the different governments couldn’t even agree on a shared account of history let alone even the concept of a unified government. He found multiple embellished accounts or just denying that somethings had or had not actually happened. There were some who still believed that there home-world was flat for crying out loud.

Second, they are way to lucky. These primates had not only survived on a world that had such a high gravity that if it was any stronger and they would have been forever a dirt crawler, but they actually started to leave their atmosphere extremely early for a species.

Oh, and did I mention the thermonuclear weapons, yes that’s right the idea of using a chain fission reaction to activate a fusion reaction was actually utilized less than 20 cycles after even the theory of fission was conceived by them. And this is the best part they actually have built so many different of these early fusion bombs during a arms race between to ideologies. that if there where all detonated it would leave a crater 15km wide and would wipe out all life on the planet in a few months. So them being crazy as well as lucky combines to make an interesting amount of scientific discoveries. These are the stars that will make you crack up a bit.

Gunpowder, that chemical used to kill millions was ironically made by a group of Chinese alchemists seeking to find a potion of Immortality.

X-rays were discovered when a guy was studying Cathode ray tubes, noticed a glow on a nearby screen and when he moved his hand in front of it he produced the first X-ray.

Penicillin was discovered because a scientist was to lazy to through away a sample of bacteria while he went on holiday and when he came back a mould had grown eating all of the sample. And the human goes what if I inject this in myself when I get an infection surely that won’t make it worse.

The Microwave was created by a inventor test a powerful radar setup that was so powerful it heated the molecules of the preserved food in his pocket. Talk about loose safety procedure. OH and another interesting point was that a few years after the microwave was invented a British guy was working on the cryonic preservation of hamsters which are a small domesticated rodent, where they would inject the rodent with an anti-freeze compound then put them in a freezer and when one of these scientist heard about the first microwaves they pointed a large military surplus radar at one of the frozen hamsters and boom the foundation for the cryonics that they use today. Which is a trend that is repeated multiple times in recent human history, the government of the country in which this experiment took place kept it a secret for multiple years.

(A/N: This was an actual experiment with hamsters. By J. E. Lovelock)

Carbon Nanotubes were discovered by a scientist running an arc between two carbon rods which left a soot that after testing revealed the strongest substance in the universe. As for the method in which a mass production method was discovered well that’s for another time.

Giga-ton nuclear weapons… well I have no comment except, really, just really did you have to go and create a bomb that is so strong it could wipe out all life on a planet in one go at the size of a school bus.

FTL communication this one makes me crack up because a functional way for using quantum entanglement as a communication is one of those things that stumps a species and when they figure it out they do the human equivalent of a facepalm at how obvious it is. This time it was done by a 13yr old in Brazil having a slight lag when playing a combat simulation game or FPS and was ranting and had a sudden thought that if they just looked at a quantumly entangled particle then it would no longer be entangle and the one on the other end could notice, his father was an Game-designer and when he heard this he took the idea to his boss who used the idea to make the most advance gaming consoles in history. This technology was eventually traded in a deal that later resulted in Brazil becoming a local power.

Arguably one of the socially most important discovery is IVAR, (Immersible Virtual Augmented Reality.) but that is culmination of years of research. No, I’m talking about when they used this technology to scan a foetuses brain at 9 weeks resulting in the first Sapient artificial intelligence ASLI (Artificial Sapient LIfeform)”

The screen then switches to young human female with glowing purple hair and fox ears who was holding her stomach laughing as she squeezed out the words. “Thank you for your opinion on our species Chil’iuk.”

A series of whistling sounds escaped the side of an orifice on the side of the Creature that looked like a mix between a squid, an octopus and a lobster. Then a robotic sounding voice sounded and replied to the earlier statement. “I was trying out your humour and It was a pleasure being on the show.”

The camera then panned to a head on shot of the human female who said. “Thanks if you made it to the end and if you enjoyed this cast (Are we lucky or simply crazy – eight things we discovered by sheer accident) then please leave a like or commentary. And if you want to know the Top 5 biggest pranks in history follow me for more.” And with that she blew a kiss at the screen with her lower two hands and waved with her upper two as the screen faded to black.
