Chapter 48

“Daniel.”

Azela raised her head and stared at him. This was a good opportunity, but the opportunities ahead were endless… so step by step, she needed to go slowly.

“Sylvia has a child named ‘Lina’ among her handmaids.”

“…What?”

Daniel looked at her with a look saying, ‘What nonsense is that?’ He even wondered if he had slapped her in the head and not in the cheek. When he didn’t respond, Azela spoke, tapping her wounded lip with her index finger.

“Give me that child. I will take this price.”

“What?”

“Isn’t this pretty cheap for that? You know I can run to divorce right now, right?”

He did not respond much to her words as his head did the calculations quickly. He was weighing the pros and cons. Of course, the answer was fixed. If he handed over the young handmaid, this would be swept under the rug. There was nothing that could not be done.

“You explain to Sylvia, Daniel.”

As Azela shrugged her shoulders, he nodded his head and raised his large hand to cover his eyes.

After that, the strong smell of alcohol emanated from his deep breath. Daniel raised his gaze and looked at her, who had become calm. The gaze was sticky, perhaps because he was drunk.

Azela, wearing a thin slip, was strangely different from usual.

Something changed… Was it because her personality had changed? Daniel shook his head, widened his eyes and gazed at her again. However, she looked no different. If felt like she was strangely seducing him with her body, which had always been like a stone.

His lower leg, hidden inside his pants, swelled up. Azela couldn’t not have known it either since he could clearly see where his gaze was headed.

Daniel raised his trembling hand and gently grabbed her hair.

…Did her hair originally have such a subtle fragrance?

It was a completely different scent from Sylvia. At that, he leaned his upper body forward as if drawn to the faint but sure scent that was tickling his chest. Even the red blood on her lips seemed to make her lips stand out even more.

Soon, his sticky tongue licked the red blood from Azela’s lips. The foul smell of alcohol wafted from him, coming through his gaping lips. Before she could frown, his hot, crude hand gripped her left chest tightly.

Azela furrowed her brow at his hand, which was just clenching it tightly like popping it. Then, she reached out her hand and pushed Daniel’s chest hard.

“…Azela?”

Confused when she pushed him away abruptly, Daniel looked at her with startled wide eyes. It was the first time he had ever been rejected by someone like this, no matter what he did — even by his own wife.

As he was scratching his head in disbelief, Azela, wiping her saliva-stained lips with the back of her hand, got up from bed. She buttoned her cardigan and stepped to the door to the bedroom, past Daniel. Even as she was doing it, he was still just staring blankly at her with an incomprehensible look.

Azela opened the locked bedroom door and glanced at Daniel with indifferent eyes.

“Is your business over? This is the way out.”

As she chinned towards the way out of the bedroom, his face immediately turned red, realizing the meaning. He had a much redder face than when he had been drunk just a moment ago. Staggering towards her, he grabbed the wide-open bedroom door and frowned.

“I am your husband.”

“I know.”

“You and me…”

“Have an obligation to share the same bed and spend the night together. I know.”

Seeing Azela silently answering a set question, Daniel clenched his fist and slammed the bedroom door with a bang.

“Though you have someone to replace me, right? Because I am a noble in bed.”

She recalled what Sylvia had said to her during tea time and passed it on to him. As if he knew who said that, Daniel took a deep breath in surprise. Instead of answering, Azela poked her head out of the bedroom and pointed her finger at Sylvia’s bedroom.

Daniel’s face was full of shame at the outright rejection.

He had never been rejected. He had a good body as well as a decent appearance, so many women wanted to sleep with him. The woman he wanted could easily be on his bed at all times. So, this refusal was a first for him in his life.

He stared at Azela for a while, then slowly walked out of her bedroom. When he stepped out of the bedroom, she looked at him with a satisfied expression and bowed her head before slamming the door shut.

As she turned around, a loud ‘bang!’ echoed again in the hallway. Whether Daniel had kicked the closed bedroom door, she didn’t look back.

Azela glanced at the open window, laying on the bed, she closed her eyes.

“Lina.”

“…Huu.”

Lina, who went into the wooden bathtub, trembled at the cold and wept. Her thin underwear was already drenched in ice water.

The shining moonlight was shining on her delicate silhouette, but Sylvia didn’t care. Raising her soft hand, she gently stroked the pitifully trembling Lina’s cheek. The girl was desperately clinging to the warm hand, and tears shed between her gaping lips.

“I believe you are a smart kid.”

“Mi, Miss…Sylvia.”

Sylvia’s soft hand, which was caressing Lina’s white cheek, turned to the cruel whip she had placed next to her.

Seeing her master’s hand picking up the whip, her face turned blue. Lina exclaimed softly, ‘Please, don’t…’ and shook her head flutteringly. Nevertheless, Sylvia just looked at that girl cutely.

“Why…? Do you hate getting hurt?”

She pulled the whip taut and asked with a smile. There wouldn’t have been anyone who would rather get hurt, but Lina couldn’t answer her question. Because if she answered no, it was clear that more pain would follow.

With a distasteful expression on her face, she tightly closed her eyes. There was nothing she could do but wait for the time to end.

“I know.”

Sylvia lifted the whip high into the air and slammed it straight into Lina’s back. Cruel noises filled the bedroom, but nothing else was heard.

Desperately, Lina bit her lip and endured it. Sylvia looked at Lina with a pitiful gaze and whispered quietly. It was a whisper that was even secretive, as if she was worried that she might offend anyone hearing it.

“When I was as young as your age… That’s how it was with my mother.”

When the word ‘mother’ came out, Sylvia’s eyes went blank with no emotion.

“If you get whipped after getting wet… it hurts so much. That’s what my mother taught me. ‘Sylvia, you did something wrong, so you should be hit’.”

“….”

“Shh, it’s okay. If you apply the medicine before the wound heals, it will heal cleanly. Look at my back, there’s no wound there. Don’t worry. I’ll give you some medicine so it won’t leave a scar, Lina.”

Sylvia whispered softly to Lina, mimicking her own mother’s voice. Then, she laughed loudly as though she remembered the funny memories, tilting her head back.

Lina glanced at Sylvia with a stern expression on that bizarre appearance.

“That old wench… Later, even though I didn’t do anything wrong, she would punish me like this every day.”

“….”

“What the hell did I do wrong!”

Lina’s lips, who were constantly immersed in the ice water, turned white and trembled. However, Sylvia only swung the whip hard one more time at her with relaxed gestures.

“When she only knows how to do dirty things. How dare… how dare you!”

Sylvia, who was speaking her words with a soft smile, bit her lips hard with poisoned eyes when she said the last ‘How dare you!’ She then slammed the whip hard against Lina’s back. Between the girl’s tightly closed lips, unbearable fear flowed.

“I only learned these things, so this is the only thing I can do.”

“Miss Sylvia…”

“Lina.”

Leaning her torso down, she ran her hand over Lina’s back, which was dripping with blood, shivering from the cold. The girl furrowed her brow hard as the unstoppable touch stung. The next moment, Sylvia took the pre-prepared medicine with her finger and began to apply the medicine over the wound she had caused.

Venom seeped into her eyes as she applied the medicine.

“Lina, you… I’m sure you know what to do.”

Sylvia’s hollow eyes stared straight at her.

Lina’s eyes were dyed with fear.
