43 – happy times

ON OCTOBER 28, 2021 BY MOONCHILDKHZ

Disciples such as Li Qingyang and Lu Qianqian accepted their missions and later went to Qingyang Village to start looking for their targets.

“Ironbone Sect disciple?”

“Bullshit… Jun Changxiao, you stinking brat, when did you receive so many disciples?”

“The boy who looks like a girl, the one under the big banyan tree, said that he was ordered by the sect leader to replace Zhao Xiucai and write letters.”

The villagers of Qingyang Village gathered at the village entrance and gossiped.

Li Qingyang, who was sitting under the big banyan, heard everyone describe him as a girl and became dejected.

In reality, he was very valiant and had masculine features. To be regarded as a girl… It was likely because of the sect’s brightly colored uniforms.

Before long, a white-haired old woman with a cane slowly walked over.

Li Qingyang asked, “Grandma, do you need to write a letter?”

The white-haired old woman tilted her head to the side. “What? What did you say?”

“I said, are you here to write a letter?” Li Qingyang repeated, voice louder than before.

The old woman still couldn’t hear him properly. With shaking hands, she pointed to her ears. “I’m too old, I can’t hear you.”

Li Qingyang felt that this was no problem, since he had pen and paper. Thus, he wrote, ‘Are you here to write a letter?’

Coincidentally, Xiao Zuiji, who was carrying two buckets of manure, came down the path and saw his senior brother showing paper to the old woman and almost collapsed.

Li Qingyang saw movement and looked over, asking, “Junior Brother, what’s wrong?”

Xiao Zuiji forcibly stabilized his body so that the buckets wouldn’t fall, answering, “Senior Brother, do you think she can read?”

Li Qingyang mentally berated himself. I forgot, most of the villagers in Qingyang Village are illiterate. Even if I write something, they can’t read it.

Thus, he injected qi into his voice. “ARE YOU HERE TO WRITE A LETTER?”

The old woman heard him this time, but pounded the floor with her cane. “Well, can’t you be a bit quieter? Your shout almost made me go deaf.”

Pah!

Li Qingyang collapsed, smacking his head against the table.

Inside the courtyard, Lu Qianqian was like a hibiscus flower in water, moving with gentle grace.

Shua~

She raised her wrist gently.

However, the bamboo broom in her hands could not withstand her power and splintered.

Lu Qianqian wrinkled her brows. “Why is it broken again?”

Looking to the side, there were three broken broomsticks by her feet.

“Aiyah… Girl…” Wang Dazhen, who was squatting in the distance and protecting herself with a dustpan, honestly asked, “You… Are you here to sweep the floor or here to kill?”

“Humph!” Lu Qianqian threw the broomstick to the ground, angrily saying, “I wanted to refuse, but Sect Head asked me to come.”

Sect Head?

Wang Dazhen suddenly thought of Jun Changxiao. She cursed in her heart, You bastard boy, what do you mean by sending her here?

Hu-hu!

Suddenly, waves of qi blew through the courtyard.

Wang Dazhen hurriedly raised the dustpan as a shield. Glancing over, she saw the beautiful girl gesturing as the leaves were gathered together.

“Works better than a broom.” Lu Qianqian then cast a cold glance to the side. “Hey, where do you put the trash?”

“The door… Outside the door!” Aunt Wang hurriedly pointed outside.

Lu Qianqian’s footsteps were light and nimble, as if she were dancing. Her jade-white palms flashed through the air and the leaves were gathered, flying out the door.

Wapah!

Su Xiaomo, who was looking for Little Huang on the streets, just so happened to pass by from the outside and was smacked in the face by a large pile of leaves.

“Puhahaha!”

“Pfft!”

Two disciples doing tasks saw that their senior brother was covered entirely in leaves and couldn’t help laughing.

“Out of the way, out of the way!”

At this moment, Xiao Zuiji, still carrying the buckets of manure, was rushing down the hills. Because he couldn’t balance them properly as he ran, the two buckets swung back and forth, splattering the two disciples with dung as he ran past.

“Haha!” Su Xiaomo laughed loudly as he saw his two junior brothers with feces on their faces.

After arriving on flatter land, Xiao Zuiji was able to stabilize the two buckets. He turned around awkwardly, “Senior brothers, I’m sorry…”

“You…You!” The two disciples spluttered, their eyes red with anger.

Seeing this, Xiao Zuiji hurriedly turned around and rushed off.

“Don’t let him run!”

The two disciples chased after Xiao Zuiji, quickly catching up and cornering him. Ignoring the feces on their faces, they reached straight for the bucket, wiping handfuls of manure on his face. Satisfied, they grinned, “There.”

“Hahaha!” Su Xiaomo laughed until he cried.

Pah!

Then another pile of leaves hit him on the head, causing him to stumble and fall.

There were not many people in Qingyang Village, roughly a hundred people or so. Most of the men went out to work, leaving the women, old, and weak behind. For them, the average day was slightly dull.

When the Ironbone Sect disciples arrived, they went from house to house completing tasks, making the village lively.

Gradually, the villagers realized that these disciples were voluntarily here to work for everyone, so they readily accepted the extra hands.

“Mister Li, I want to write a letter.”

Under the banyan tree, an old man at least seventy-years of age, laughed. “Address it to the second youngest in the village. Let him spend more time on learning to read, not just playing.”

Li Qingyang wrote.

Within a few hours, he had written letters for five different villagers.

Someone wrote to their son, another to their relatives in the countryside. Most of the content was about family. Although simple, it was worthwhile.

After writing another letter, Li Qingyang thought, I see. Sect Head wants me to listen to their hearts so that I can comprehend the simplicity of emotion, connection, and communication.

Pah-pah!

In the courtyard, Lu Qianqian clapped her hands and said, “Almost done.”

There were very few leaves and a hint of dust left on the ground, which was much cleaner than when she was using a broom.

Aunt Wang was paralyzed by the door, crying without tears.

Although the yard was now clean, several of the newly-planted trees were now de-leafed and de-branched, leaving behind only the bare trunk.

That wasn’t it…

All kinds of vegetables grown in the garden had also been uprooted, thrown outside along with the leaves.

“Do you need help cleaning the house?”

Shua!

Wang Dazhen jumped forward and guarded the door, saying, “I can clean the house myself, no need to trouble you.”

Lu Qianqian said, “No, Sect Head said I should help you with housework too.”

With a wave of her hand, Wang Dazhen was pushed to the side.

Lu Qianqian stepped into the house and immediately the sound of teacups breaking and iron pots falling could be heard with a ‘dang’.

“Ah!” Wang Dazhen held her head and scolded, “You bastard, you sent someone on purpose to torture me!”

Soon, it was evening.

In the great hall wafted the smell of feces and fertilizer.

Jun Changxiao pinched his nose. “Zuiji, go bathe!”

“Bathe! Bathe!”

Xiao Zuiji and the two other disciples disappeared instantly.

Li Qingyang reported, “Sect Head, martial brothers and sisters have done an excellent job today.”

“What’s wrong with your voice?” laughed Jun Changxiao.

Li Qingyang heard this and wanted to cry. “The clients were mostly elderly grandmothers and grandfathers. Most of them are deaf.”

“Hey,” Jun Changxiao patted him on the shoulder. “It’s been tough.”

“Thank you…?”

He swept a glance over the disciples. “Eh? Why didn’t Lu Qianqian come back with you?”

Bang! Bang!

Suddenly, the ground seemed to shake.

Jun Changxiao looked up and watched as dust fell from the roof, asking, “Earthquake?”

“Son of a bitch, come out!”

A loud roar came from outside the hall.

“Aunt Wang?”

Jun Changxiao hurriedly walked outside, but suddenly stopped and retreated backwards, peeking outside.

On the martial arts stage stood Wang Dazhen, a large kitchen knife in one hand and a rolling pin in the other. She had come up the mountain with murderous energy, shaking the mountain every step of the way.

“Sect Head.” Lu Qianqian appeared and faintly said, “She has come to thank you, disciple could not stop her.”

“Oh.”

Jun Changxiao swallowed some saliva and hurriedly said, “Aunt Wang, I have something to say— Ah! Aunt Wang is going to kill someone!”
