78 – the night emperor

ON JANUARY 17, 2022 BY MOONCHILDKHZ

Jun Changxiao, who had broken through to Martial Apprentice Stage Five, fired three gunshots continuously. Not only was he accurate, his hand and arm were not numb.

This indicated that he could disregard the Desert Eagle’s recoil.

Witnessing their sect leader open fire and suddenly massacre the three fleers more than 20 meters away, Li Qingyang and the others were deeply shocked.

“Bring the injured over,” Jun Changxiao ordered, sitting on a tree root. “This Lord wants to see who dares assassinate my Ironbone Unyielding Sect under bright daylight.”

“Yes!”

The disciples listened to his command and moved toward the several wounded people. When they rolled them over, they discovered that none of them were breathing.

Li Qingyang knit his brows. “Sect Head, they’re all dead!”

“What?” Jun Changxiao quickly walked over, taking off the black face-coverings. He discovered that their lips were darkened, like they had ingested some sort of poison.

“Zuiji, do you know any of these people?”

Xiao Zuiji walked over and carefully examined the several people, but shook his head. “Sect Head, I don’t recognize any of them.”

Didn’t recognize any of them?

Jun Changxiao was stunned.

From the beginning, he had been so sure that they were Xiao Family’s people — was he in for a face-slapping?

Li Qingyang squatted down, uncovering a name plaque from the black-clothed person’s body. “Sect Head, there’s a ‘Bei’ character. Is it someone from the Bei Family?”

Xiao Zuiji tapped his chin. “I once heard that the Bei Family raises a number of deathsworn.”

Su Xiaomo rushed over. “It’s needless to say, but they’re definitely unbearably angry since Junior Brother Xiao beat Bei Jian. It’s possible the Bei Family sent their deathsworn to kill us!”

Pah!

Jun Changxiao smacked the back of Su Xiaomo’s head. “Your family’s deathsword, when they go out, do they also carry their name plates and expose their status?”

Su Xiaomo covered his head, grimacing.

Li Qingyang asked, “Sect Head, do you mean some people are planting stolen goods in order to intentionally shift the blame onto the Bei Family?”

Jun Changxiao tapped his chin. “Biting a poison pill to commit suicide, this method is not exclusive to the deathsworn. Perhaps…”

“Assassins!” Li Qingyang said.

Jun Changxiao patted his shoulder and said with a smile, “Not bad, not bad, your time spent with this Lord has not been in vain.”

Li Qingyang was solemn. “Previously there were assassins in the sect. Could this be related to the Spirit Spring Sect too?”

“Hard to say.”

Jun Changxiao could not determine it.

He currently had two guesses. These assassin-like men could be Xiao Family men dressing as Bei Family men, or they could actually be related with the Spirit Spring Sect.

“Search them and check for storage rings,” Jun Changxiao said.

Let alone a storage ring, they didn’t even find 1 tael of silver. It may be said that these attackers were dirt poor.

Jun Changxiao shook his head. “Pile the corpses together and burn them.”

“Yes.”

The disciples began to drag the corpses.

Su Xiaomo picked up a branch from the ground, sharpened it and then started rubbing it against another piece of wood.

Rubbing sticks together for fire? This is too primitive!

Jun Changxiao shook his head, gently raised a hand and the Exquisite Flame flickered to life on his fingertip, turning the corpses into flames.

Looking at the burning corpses, Li Qingyang and the others gaped.

Lu Qianqian was surprised for a different reason. “You are a fire spirit martial artist?”

Jun Changxiao shrugged, “This Lord is a fire spirit martial artist, is that very strange?”

Snap.

He snapped his finger and pointed onwards. “Let’s go, return to the sect.”

The disciples hurried after him.

On the road, Li Qingyang whispered, “Senior Sister, Sect Head’s flame should be a very rare fire seed!”

Lu Qianqian responded, “Supreme-grade fire seed, Exquisite Flame.”

“Ah?”

Li Qingyang staggered. When he regained his balance, he looked at Jun Changxiao in shock.

Falling Star Continent had all sorts of strange and unusual attributes, like fire and water spirit users. Each type also had rank divisions, just like spiritual roots did.

The supreme-grade Exquisite Flame.

Within the flame spirits, that was an extremely rare existence!

Li Qingyang stabilized his mind and whispered, “Senior Sister, Sect Head is not simple!”

Lu Qianqian responded, “If he was simple… You think that with these junior brothers’ aptitudes and cultivation, they can enter the Top 4?”

Li Qingyang nodded, “Makes sense.”

Jun Changxiao slowed down, walking side-by-side with the two. “Qingyang, this Lord has said that you will achieve Martial Emperor. Why would I boast so extravagantly without the ability to back it up?”

“Remember,” he said, turning to the others. “So long as you honestly and conscientiously follow this Lord, there will be bread, there will be milk, there will be everything.” [1]

Although they did not know what this ‘bread’ was, the disciples dutifully responded, “We will follow Sect Head forever!”

Bang!

A bolt of thunder erupted from the dark clouds covering the sky, splitting the untrodden valley.

Xiu!

A stream of black light zipped through the air, departing from the mountain valley and entering the body of a youngster chopping some firewood.

“Ah!” the youngster screamed pitifully.

His originally blank and timid eyes gradually became cold and severe.

There was a breath and the fierce expression relaxed. A hoarse voice sounded, “My soul was stranded for several thousand years, but this Lord has finally been reborn!”

“Ling Yao, I regarded you as a close friend, but you actually plotted against me for the Grand Mysterious True Sutra. When this Emperor regains his cultivation, I will look for you to settle accounts!” [2]

“What? That woman unexpectedly shattered the void? She’s regarded as the first empress of all ages?”

Kacha—

After his memories fused, the youngster’s vision gleamed with fury.

“That step, this Emperor couldn’t even take, but that woman has unexpectedly achieved it!”

“Just as well, just as well.”

“This Emperor has the Grand Mysterious True Sutra in hand. Within a few dozen years, I can easily break through to Martial Emperor and then shatter the void. When the time comes, it won’t be too late to settle accounts with her then.”

Hu!

The youngster stretched. His originally dull eyes had been replaced with a sense of vicissitude that did not match his age, as if he had lived through many things.

His name was Ye Xingchen.

Several thousand years ago, he was one of the Ten Great Martial Emperors, known to the world as the Night Emperor.

Due to a plot by his close friend, he fell from the skies. A remnant of his soul integrated with the center of the earth and healed after several thousands of years. He accumulated enough strength to break apart the ground and seized the body chopping firewood nearby.

“This body has a low-grade aptitude and Opening Meridian Stage One, too weak.”

That was how Ye Xingchen regarded his new body.

“At least this Emperor has the Grand Mysterious True Sutra, which seizes the good fortune between Heaven and earth. It should be able to transform low aptitude.”

He smiled slightly.

“The first empress of all times?”

“This Emperor will pull you from that altar!”

Ye Xingcheng clenched a fist, raising his head to shout, “Starting today, I, Ye Xingchen, will let the world know that if there is a person who goes against my intentions, if Heaven refuses to accept me… then I will go against the Heavens…”

Bang!

Just as he shouted the word ‘heaven’, something flew over and pounded him in the face.

Ye Xingchen went flying, staggering and stumbling, before collapsing.

One of the Ten Great Martial Emperors from several thousand years ago was roaring about the rebirth of a powerhouse who went against Heaven’s will, but ended up fainting right then and there.

The murder weapon?

A soccer ball!

An alarmed voice floated over.

“Sect Head, this kick of yours knocked someone out!”

“Really? There’s people in these barren mountains?”

Sha, sha, sha.

Jun Changxiao and his five disciples walked over.

Seeing the fainted youth, his mouth twitched. “This Lord kicked casually, but hit you in the face. That is some precision…”

“Sect Head, what to do?” asked Li Qingyang.

Jun Changxiao looked at the dark clouds overhead. “There are no villages around here and it seems like it will soon rain. Let’s first carry him to the sect.”

“Yes.”

Xiao Zuiji crouched down and carried the youth on his back.

Jun Changxiao placed the soccer ball into the storage ring, quickly rushing back to the Ironbone Unyielding Sect.

[2] The Grand Mysterious True Sutra gets its name from the ‘Tai Xuan Jing’ or ‘Classic of Great Mysteries’.
